Black Isle Announces Icewind Dale II Collector's Edition
Icewind Dale II

While North American console gamers are usually (always) left out in the cold when it comes to collector's editions, their PC brethren are much more accustomed to being pampered by publishers. Black Isle Studios announced today that it is planning a Collector's Edition of Icewind Dale II, the next installment contained within the ever-expanding AD&D franchise.

The special edition will contain an extra CD containing gameplay enhancements and a selection of tracks from the game's score. Additional tchotchkes include a spiral-bound manual, a full-color cloth map, four character cards, a set of dice, stickers and a notepad, with the whole shebang coming neatly ensconced in a hinge book style box.

The game itself is based on R.A. Salvatore's best-selling series and takes place in the Forgotten Realms. Essentially a dungeon crawl, Black Isle has attempted to lure new gamers and series veterans back to the Forgotten Realms by including all of the magic spells from the first Icewind Dale and its expansion and oodles of new nasties, magic, weapons, armor and other accoutrements. Visuals will be handled by a tweaked version of Bioware's Infinity Engine, first seen in the insanely popular Baldur's Gate.

Icewind Dale II Collector's Edition will be available in limited quantities exclusively from Interplay's online store for $59.95 .The regular edition, priced at $49.95, will hit shelves simultaneously with the special edition on the 28th of May.
