SOE Announces EverQuest Online Adventures for PlayStation 2
EverQuest

Sony Online Entertainment has just revealed its next venture in the online role-playing world with the announcement of a PlayStation 2 entry in its best-selling EverQuest series. The game will be called EverQuest Online Adventures and is being developed by Verant, the company responsible for the original game's production.

SOE is describing EverQuest Online Adventures as one of the first games to introduce console gamers into the world of MMORPGs. The title is an all-new adventure that takes the intricate character development, continuous player interaction and strong sense of community that made the original PC game so great and adds many entirely new aspects to the huge world.

EverQuest Online Adventures takes place 500 years before the events of EverQuest for the PC in the world of Norrath. The game features 9 races, 13 character classes, 9 cities, 8 different types of terrain, 360 miles of virtual game world, and plenty of unique quests to keep the player occupied.

The game is entirely plug-and-play, requiring no update software, while still presenting players with an ever-evolving world. The title will be run on dedicated server utilizing Sony's PS2 Broadband Adapter; it will run at low latency over a 56k modem connection without any load times. Players will be able to choose whether or not they will take advantage of the Broadband Adapter.

SOE plans to release the PS2-exclusive in Spring 2003 in North America. No monthly fees have been announced at this time, but they will likely be low enough to facilitate the budding console MMORPG community. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest on this developing story.
