PSO Version 2 Tidbits
Phantasy Star Online

Phantasy Star Online version 2, the update to the popular online RPG for Sega's Dreamcast, is proving to be much more than just a service update. More added features in this update have been revealed by Sega over the past few days, including specific information on the features already reported as well some extra features which were previously unknown. When a character dies, a tombstone will appear at the spot of the death, marked with the victim's name, level, and information on the murderer. Many of these murderers will be new to version 2, but not many of the new monsters have been revealed yet. Variations on existing monsters will also make an appearance in the game. The co-op play has also been tweaked to avoid problems with teams getting stuck when not enough players are involved in the game. Importance will still be placed on cooperation, however, with such situations as blowing up large granite boulders in the middle of a path, something that would be difficult to do with only a single player.

The non-quest portions of the game will not be without updates of their own, including the oft-mentioned lobby soccer game. The soccer ball in the game will change depending on the time of the day. A dressing room will also be available, allowing a character to change clothes, hair style, and hair color for a hundred thousand meseta. Body and face type cannot be modified in this manner, however. A challenge mode is added to the normal game modes, which will force players to complete objectives with limited items and techniques and without going back to town. Finally, the conversations with NPCs will be much more interesting, with the text changing based on the time of day. The NPC will also chastise the player if he or she is using a pirated copy of the game.
