Final Fantasy IX Will Arrive Ahead of Schedule in Japan

Most gamers dread a change in release dates. This is because, nine times out of ten, the change spells a delay in the game's release, which means a longer wait for anxious fans. This story, however, brings a good change. Squaresoft's Final Fantasy IX, previously set to hit Japan on July 19, 2000, will be released early - a full 12 days earlier - on July 7, 2000. This news should bring a sigh of relief to fans, because Square was rumored to delay the game in order to miss the launch of Enix's highly anticipated Dragon Quest VII.

While this news is certainly great for importers and Japanese gamers, what about the rest of the Final Fantasy fans here in North America? Get ready to cheer, because there's good news on this front, too. Although Final Fantasy IX has had a speculated release date of October here in North America, Square's planned release date for our side of the planet had been unknown, until now. Square has announced that the game will arrive on North American shores in "late 2000." Although this announcement is vague, count on Square to finalize the North American release date soon, and count on RPGamer to bring you the full details when it happens.
