Bandai Namco has announced a new tactical RPG titled Record of Grancrest War. The game is based on the light novel series of the same name written by Ryo Mizuno (who also wrote Record of Lodoss War), which has also received an animated adaptation, and bears no connection to the similarly-titled Record of Agarest War series developed by Compile Heart. It is not yet confirmed which studio is developing the game.
Record of Grancrest War takes place in a fantasy world on the continent of Atlatan, whose landmass and borders are quite clearly inspired by Europe, where disasters are caused by an entity known as chaos. Its populace is governed by Lords who can use Crests to suppress the power of chaos, however, the Lords have started fighting amongst each other for territory and power. The series stars a mage named Siluca, who harbours a dislike of unidealistic Lords, and a knight named Theo, who aims to free his hometown from tyranny. The gameplay portion of the trailer shows players commanding squads led by commanders in turn-based tactical battles.
Record of Grancest War has so far only been announced for release in Japan on PlayStation 4 on June 14, 2018. In addition, Bandai Namco also announced a free-to-play smartphone title called Record of Grancrest War: Quartet of War, which is a 3D action RPG.
