Koei Tecmo released some new gameplay details and media for its upcoming North American and European release of Gust's Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings. In addition to providing information about an Ambitions Journal and different agents used during synthesis, the publisher released some new screenshots and a four-minute gameplay trailer, both viewable below.
The Ambitions Journal is the creation of Suelle and designed to help the twins track their goals and accomplishments. These goals are split into the usual aspects of the series: alchemy, synthesis, combat, and relationships with other characters. As tasks are completed, new key quests are unlocked that will increase the twins' Atelier Rank.
While synthesizing items, Lydie and Suelle can use Enhancing Agents for various effects. Change Agents change the color of a particular tile in the grid-based cauldron, different colors instilling certain effects on the resulting item, while Color Adjacent Agents will change all the tiles next to the selected tile into the same color as that tile. Connect Agents will change all tiles on the same horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines to the same color as the central tile, and Color All Agents change every tile of a particular color to the color of the agent.
Atelier Lydie & Suelle will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in North America on March 27, 2018, and in Europe on March 30, 2018. The third title in the Mysterious subseries following Atelier Sophie and Atelier Firis, Atelier Lydie & Suelle follows twin sisters who discover that they can enter worlds held within paintings.
