Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood

Square Enix held a Letter from the Producer presentation for MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV and its most recent expansion, Stormblood, detailing the numerous changes and additions coming with Patch 4.2. Titled Rise of a New Sun, the patch will add new main scenario quests primarily focused around the far eastern nation of Doma.

As shown in the trailer, viewable below, the 4.2 patch looks to take heavy inspiration from Final Fantasy VI. In addition to the main story content, it will also add in the next arc of the Omega raid series. The previous arc borrowed elements from Final Fantasy V, with the new Omega: Sigmascape sections confirmed to borrow parts from its successor. Rise of a New Sun will also add in two high-level dungeons — Hells’ Lid and The Fractal Continuum (Hard) — and a trial against one of the four lords: Byakko.

A new set of beast tribe quests will be available featuring the Vira, one of the tribes of the snake-like Ananta. The game's glamour system will receive an overhaul, instituting Glamour Dressers to make the process more streamlined and make it easier to switch between different glamour sets. There will also be changes or additions to the housing system, PvP modes, and Bard performance actions. More details on these can be found on Square Enix's summary of the presentation. The majority of the new content will only be accessible to those with the Stormblood expansion.

Patch 4.2 will be available on January 30, 2018 at 2am PST with a 24-hour maintenance downtime period taking place immediately beforehand.
