Techland Games and inXile Entertainment have a released a new trailer for Torment: Tides of Numenera, which gets viewers up to speed on the premise of the game. The game concerns a man who would become immortal and the trail of misery he leaves in his wake.
One billion years in the future on Earth, a man, using strange technology, learned how to transfer his consciousness into bodies he created for himself. Initially an imperfect process, each new body gave the man more time to refine this craft and to extend his life. So long did he continue this, the man eventually became known as the Changing God. However, there was an unforseen side effect of the procedure: every time the Changing God left a body for a new one, the previous body would gain its own sentience and sapience.
Initially kind to these individuals, the Changing God's immortality procedure eventually corrupted his mind and motivations, leading him to become distant and uncaring towards their plight. Additionally, the Changing God's efforts drew the attention of The Sorrow, an alien being bent on destroying the unnatural man and all of his lineage. And it just so happens that the player is the most recent member of that lineage.
Arriving on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 28, 2017, Torment will be the first game to adapt Monte Cook's Cypher System to a video game. The game will serve as a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment.
