Fire Emblem Echoes

Nintendo yesterday posted a Direct presentation focusing on its plans for the Fire Emblem series. The video began with the announcement of a new game, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. The game is effectively a remake of the 1992 Japan-only Famicom title Fire Emblem Gaiden, the second game in the series, which featured unique aspects for the series such as exploration, visitable towns, and dungeons that will be included in Echoes.

Fire Emblem Echoes takes place on the continent of Valentia, which has two gods: Duma and Mila. Duma believes the humanity should devote itself to strength, while Mila believes in providing pleasure and comfort. The two gods end up in conflict, eventually dividing the land between Duma's Rigel Empire in the north and Mila's Kingdom of Zofia in the south with a vow to not encroach on each other's lands. Many years pass, during which the populace of Rigel ends up losing any compassion while those of Zofia fall into decadence. The game follows two main protagonists, Alm, a fighter, and Celica, a priestess, as conflict looms. Fire Emblem Echoes is planned for released in North America and Europe for Nintendo 3DS on May 19, 2017.

Nintendo also announced another new game in the series, for its new Nintendo Switch gaming system. The game does not yet have a title and no further details were announced other than that it is planned for a 2018 release worldwide.

The video then moved onto Fire Emblem Warriors, the crossover action RPG between Fire Emblem and Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors series. Initially announced for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo revealed that the game is also coming to New Nintendo 3DS systems. The game is planned for release in North America and Europe in fall 2017.

Finally, Nintendo revealed that the Fire Emblem series is heading to mobile devices. Fire Emblem Heroes is a new title which see players summoning and fighting against various characters in the series' history. The game uses eight-by-six grid maps, with players earning or buying orbs to get new heroes. Fire Emblem Heroes is set for release on February 2, 2017, for Android and iOS.
