Nintendo of Europe announced that it is commemorating the release of Hyrule Warriors Legends on March 24, 2016 with a special Hyrule Edition New 3DS XL handheld console that will be released that same day. Pricing has not been announced, but it has been confirmed that the console will not include a copy of the game. The Hyrule Edition New 3DS XL was released in North America in October 2015 at the same time as The Legend of Heroes: Tri Force Heroes.

Hyrule Warriors Legends is an enhanced port of the 2014 Wii U release, Hyrule Warriors. The game is developed by Omega Force and mixes elements of the developer's Dynasty Warriors series with The Legend of Zelda's setting and characters. Nintendo announced that all The Legend of Zelda amiibo figures, including Wolf Link, will be compatible with the game. The amiibo will unlock special weapons for their associated characters, with Wolf Link providing weapons for Midna.
