Final Fantasy XI

Square Enix detailed its future plans for long-running MMORPG Final Fantasy XI. It started off by revealing that the game's final, ultimate story scenario, titled Rhapsodies of Vana’diel, will be released with the game's upcoming major updates. The scenario will be split into three parts, which will be made available in May, August, and November. A celebratory event titled The Goddess's Gala will also be held, consisting of multiple campaigns for players to partake in.

Square Enix stated that service for the game would continue after November, albeit for a limited time for console players. PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 support for the game is set to end in March 2016, although the PC version will continue past that date.

Although the game will be ending for console players, a version is set to start up for mobile players. The company announced that it is working with Korean developer Nexon to create a game client for smartphones. The smartphone version will feature a number of changes to make the game easier to play, such as a speedier battle system and a system to make party forming easier. It is unclear at this stage whether the smartphone version will interact with or have the same content as the PC version of Final Fantasy XI, but it will be available in North America and Europe.

The final reveal was of another smartphone release, an online spin-off titled Final Fantasy Grandmasters. The title is being developed by mobile developer Crooz and allows solo and cooperative play. Final Fantasy Grandmasters is set in Vana'diel and allows players to battle monsters and use abilities from the MMORPG, as well as explore fields based upon it. The game will be free-to-play with cash shop purchases and available for Android and iOS, with a beta test set to occur in Japan in April.
