Fossil Fighters: Frontier

Fossil Fighters: Frontier hits North America this week, and Nintendo has provided some more details about the Red Entertainment-developed title. The game sees players excavating the fossils of dinosaur-like creatures called vivosaurs, reanimating them, and using them to battle against other vivosaurs.

The excavation part of the game lets players travel around in a customised Bone Buggy, searching out fossils that they can place in the back of their buggy to clean and be brought back life using special technology. Various tools can be found and upgraded to help players collect fossils. Certain sites will also include certain challenges, which reward players with rarer or more powerful fossils when beaten.

Vivosaurs battles are turn-based, with each vivosaur falling into one of five elemental categories. Battles can be found in a number of ways: through the main campaign, daily tournaments, or by using StreetPass.

Other multiplayer features include a local co-op where players can visit fossil sites together in their own Bone Buggies, as well as local wireless battles featuring up to six players. One-on-one battles against random opponents can also be fought over the internet, which contribute to players' monthly online leaderboard standings.

Fossil Fighters: Frontier is available through both digital and retail channels with a suggested retail price of $29.99. RPGamers interested in the title can check out its official site, which will have extra content unlocked on the game's release. The game is also set to be released in Europe later this year, but a date has not yet been announced.
