Nintendo Japan presented a special twenty-four minute video for Xenoblade Chronicles X today. The video, which can be viewed in full below, consisted of in-game footage showcasing the game's massive setting, story, and various gameplay aspects. The video is entirely in Japanese but includes selections from Hiroyuki Sawano's soundtrack in the background.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is set on the planet Mira, beginning in the modern-looking city of New Los Angeles. The player character is a BLADE ("Beyond the Logos Artificial Destiny Emancipator"), member of an organisation whose primary objective is to help find a site for permanent habitation.

The video showed a hexagonal map system that appears on the Wii U Game Pad, which seems to also make use of a scanning machine to help provide information on what may be found within nearby sections. NPC quests and the interconnected relationship map of Xenoblade return, with quests helping develop and build those relationship links.

A variety of new locations and land masses were also highlighted, including a sandy desert, large snow-covered plains surrounded by lots of cliffs, and a volcanic area. Achievement pop-ups appear when players discover new areas, and players can also use an extendable camera to see what might lie ahead in the distance.

Things then moved on to a brief look at the Dolls, Xenoblade X's mecha units. In addition to flying, these Dolls can transform into wheeled and water-going vehicles. These are likely to come in use when facing off against of the incredibly large creatures of Mira. The inhabitants of Mira are not restricted to those creatures wandering the world, with some new races being shown. The Nopon from Xenoblade remain, but they are joined by three new races, one of which appears rather hostile. A future presentation is being planned, which will focus on combat.

Xenoblade Chronicles X (pronounced "Cross") is the follow-up to the Wii's Xenoblade Chronicles, RPGamer's GotY in 2012, but it uses an (as of yet) unconnected setting and storyline. The game is due out exclusively for Wii U on April 29, 2015 in Japan and at some point later in 2015 in North America and Europe.
