inXile Entertainment, the company behind Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera, announced at PAX South that The Bard's Tale IV not only exists but will be releasing this year. Director Brian Fargo says this release is to coincide with the series' thirtieth anniversary.

The Bard's Tale IV will be the first game in the series in twenty-seven years, The Bard's Tale III having been released in 1988. In 2004 a reimagining of the series was released, but is considered a spinoff of the main series. No other details were given about the release.
