Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin

The Final Fantasy XI Community Team live streamed footage from the game's new expansion, Seekers of Adoulin. It showcased the new city, Adoulin, surrounding areas and the new Geomancer and Rune Fencer classes. Adoulin is a very huge town with a nice statue of Altana with a waterfall. There are palm trees and other fountains littering the landscape.

There are six coalitions in Adoulin. These coalitions are made to colonize the continent Adoulin is stationed on, which is basically uncharted. Players will undertake missions from different coalitions to break into lands and set up outposts called Bivouacs. One of the new areas they visit is called Celzak Battlegrounds that have little camps called Frontier Stations at the start of the zone.

Geomancers have a unique kind of magic that features enhancing and enfeebling spells that are stackable with rolls, magic, and bard songs. Indi-spells create a noticeable spheres showing the range of effect. As long as party members are inside the sphere they get the benefits of the spell. The geo-spells have their own bubble and do not move with the player. However, I did notice the geo-spells take a long time to cast. Geomancers can only have one Luopan active at once, and can clear it out with Fullcircle. They do have their own Luopan-Refresh bubble. The luopans can take damage from AOE, so the Geomancers have to take care of the bubbles and can give their HP to heal their Luopans.

Rune Fencers are the new tank job, and can cast AOE spells that strike a circle around the player, unlike other classes' spells that attack a circle around enemies. Their spells are based on elements. Some new spells are: Valiance, which reduces damage taken from certain elemental spells, and Liement, which Absorbs magic damage of a certain element.

There's a new campaign-like area called Reives in the Yehse Hunting Grounds. Players will get tagged when they enter the area, so there's no need to find an NPC to acquire tags. Rewards depend on participation. Players will get Bayld points, which are like conquest points. However, if players run in and decide they don't want to do it, they will get a penalty and will not be able to participate in another Rieve for 10 minutes.

While visiting areas players can destroy certain trees, rocks, or vines to open pathways to other places in the zone, which will give you more influence to open up outposts. Players will acquire Survival Skills while in these areas to to help with this, but how to get them remains a mystery.

The pre-order of Seekers of Adoulin comes with Musicbox Adventures, a collection of 5 tracks from various areas in Final Fantasy XI. By purchasing the Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition you'll also receive an in-game Chocobo shirt and Destrier Beret. More information on the Chocobo shirt can be found on the PlayOnline site.
