Atlus is not just re-localizing Legacy of Ys: Books I & II, remastering the graphics, remixing the score, providing a soundtrack CD in every launch copy of the game, and adding a multiplayer mode; the company is also adding a brand new area that has been mentioned, but never before explored in the world of Ys. Legacy of Ys: Books I & II for the Nintendo DS, containing both the first and second Ys games on one DS cart, is scheduled to release tomorrow, February 24, 2009.

The new area is called the Vageux-Vardette, a huge crater in the center of Esteria where a forgotten disaster occurred 700 years ago. Now considered sacred and forbidden ground, howls and screams have haunted the area since the appearance of the Veil of Storms months earlier. Players will be able to explore the Vageux-Vardette to acquire a brand new set of equipment and to take on a unique boss. This level is exclusive to Legacy of Ys: Books I & II and is considered a natural expansion of the Ys universe by Sam Mullen, the game's project lead. Legacy of Ys: Books I & II has been rated T and will be released with an MSRP of $34.99.
