Persona and Growlanser Coming to PSP
02.04.2009

The rumored PSP version of the PlayStation's Revelations: Persona has officially come to life in the most recent issue of Famitsu. The game will be a port, not a remake, though it will be improved. The UI will be revamped, brand new anime-style cutscenes will be added, players will be able to select a difficulty level, and the soundtrack will be completely redone by original composer Shoji Meguro, who also happens to be the director of the PSP version of the game. Persona may look unfamiliar to RPGamers that have only played the PlayStation 2's more recent Persona 3 and Persona 4, as it uses a first-person perspective for dungeons and other areas, and has a somewhat different battle system that includes the "Contact" ability, used to negotiate with demons. The Famitsu scans can be viewed here.

Also revealed in the same issue of Famitsu was Growlanser PSP, a port of the PlayStation version of Growlanser, a tactical-RPG never released in North America (though a few of its sequels were). This game will also be a port, but will come with additions such as new paths to take through the game and new playable characters. 2009 happens to be the 10th anniversary of Growlanser, originally released in Japan in 1999. A Famitsu scan for Growlanser PSP can be viewed here.

Growlanser PSP is scheduled for a Japanese release on May 14, 2009, while Persona PSP is scheduled for Japanese release on April 29, 2009. Neither have been announced for release in North America yet.
