The game incorporates a unique hex-based strategy role-playing grid system that generates a wide variety of tactical positioning options. Adding to the strategy is a large number of job classes allowing vast party customization.

Wild ARMs XF boasts 50 stages containing a wide array of mission objectives plus a number of optional battles. Aside from being able to choose from 20 unique jobs, players can gather materials and combine them together to create powerful weapons, spell books, and armor. Exclusive to North American copies includes a Music Library containing 20 select tracks from the game accessible any time from the game menu.
