The Super Robot Wars series has traditionally always been more strategy game than RPG. However, in attempts to freshen up the series, Monolith Soft and Banpresto announced in the latest issue of Famitsu that Infinite Frontier Super Robot Wars OG Saga is currently in development for the Nintendo DS.
The game will stray away from the series's strategy roots and will be developed as an action RPG. Parties will consist of four characters, and combat will only include a single button press to initiate attacks. Combos and multiple attacks will be accomplished via specific timing as to when the button is pressed.
The development of the title will be a joint effort between Monolith Soft and Banpresto. Though seemingly most of the development will be undertaken by Monolith Soft, Takanobu Terada from Banpresto--the producer of Super Robot Taisen OG for the GBA--will be supervising the project. On the Monolith Soft side of development, Koji Ishitani will be producing while Soichiro Morizumi will be directing. Infinite Frontier Super Robot Wars OG Saga is currently scheduled to be released in Japan in Spring 2008.
