The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles

Bethesda Softworks has been working on an expansion for its popular title The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion since the game's release back in March 2006. The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles expansion is almost ready for distribution, and with it comes a bit of a revelation from Bethesda spokesman Peter Hines.

In a recent interview with 360 Gamer Magazine, Hines stated: "Work pretty much started on Shivering Isles once Oblivion was done. We started looking at what we wanted to do, where we wanted to set it, all that stuff. It pretty much started last March. Shivering Isles is our last big thing: it's our first and last expansion for Oblivion."

That news may come as a disappointment to some, but others may welcome it because with The Elder Scrolls games completed, Bethesda will have more time to focus on its next big project, Fallout 3.

"...We've got a full team working on it now," said Peter Hines in an interview with Shacknews regarding Fallout 3. "Of course, as we said with all of our stuff, we don't believe in showing it or even talking about it until we can say, 'This is what we're going to do.' That time is not that far off."

Shivering Isles features more than 30 hours of new gameplay, along with a host of new creatures, weapons, armor, ingredients, quests and more. The game can be played in the existing world of Oblivion using previous saves and characters, or by exploring the new content in Shivering Isles.

Shivering Isles exists in the Realm of Daedric Prince Sheogorath, the Madgod. The Shivering Isles are separated into two vastly different areas, aptly named Mania and Dementia. Something dark and menacing is manifesting itself in the this Realm of Madness, and Sheogorath is depending on you to be his champion. Unravel the mystery and madness of Shivering Isles and defend Sheogorath's realm and its inhabitants from total destruction.

"We’re thrilled with the response that Oblivion has received to date and feel that Shivering Isles will offer a whole new and different experience to anyone who played and enjoyed Oblivion," said Todd Howard, executive producer for The Elder Scrolls.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles is currently scheduled for release sometime in March. It will be available in retail stores for the PC and via download on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Localized versions will also be made available in French, German, Italian and Spanish.
