New Surprises Coming for Kingdom Hearts Fans

Kingdom Hearts

The Kingdom Hearts series found success by mixing the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy together with unexpected results. Now, it has been confirmed by director Tetsuya Nomura that more Kingdom Hearts games are on the way, according to a discussion Nomura had with Famitsu.com.

Nomura stated that he is thinking of a new game in the series that would be neither a numbered sequel as Kingdom Hearts II is, nor an "in-between" as Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the Game Boy Advance was. "It's difficult to explain it," Nomura said. "I'm thinking about how to talk about it, which means that there will be some twists to it. Up until now, the series followed along a time line, going from Kingdom Hearts to Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II. But the idea I have right now doesn't follow that flow. However, as long as it inherits the Kingdom Hearts title, it needs to have some connection in terms of storyline, so it won't be too distant from the other titles. In any case, this is still at a conceptual phase, where I'm thinking about what I want to do."

Nomura was asked by Famitsu if the next installment would take place after Kingdom Hearts II, but Nomura would neither confirm nor deny it. It was also revealed that more announcements would be made at the Electronic Entertainment Expo as well as the Tokyo Game Show. Square Enix is planning a big event for E3 and a surprise ceremony will take place at the convention.

Kingdom Hearts II will be released in North America tomorrow for a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $49.99, and has been rated "E10+" for Everyone 10 and Older by the ESRB.
