Propaganda from Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria gives a better look at combat, and how battles are fought in this upcoming sequel to Valkyrie Profile.

Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria has a battle system based loosely on that of the original Valkyrie Profile. There are some changes that affect the pace and flow of battle. One such change involves AP, or attack points. In Valkyrie Profile, any action undertaken by a character consumed an amount of AP. Defeating an enemy, or being attacked by one, would refill their AP. In Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, a new dimension of attack has been added in the form of mid-air combos. Certain attacks can knock an enemy into the air, and attacking that enemy again before it comes down will cause a special item to drop, which restores AP. The more a player hits the enemy in mid-air, the more of that item will drop.

Another new combat feature is called Leader Assault. Enemies moving in groups will often form around a single leader. By killing off the leader, the player will automatically win the fight, regardless of how many enemies remain. Further complimenting the Leader Assault feature is a new addition, called the Extend Gauge. A set of dots or points will appear on the right side of the screen, and the gauge steadily depletes during battle. Winning before all the dots disappear will gain the player bonus experience. The faster a player wins, the more dots or points are left, and the more bonus experience is won. By keeping the Leader Assault system in mind, and winning the battle quickly by defeating the leader, it’s possible that the Extend Gauge will award more experience then could have been normally won by defeating every enemy during the battle.

Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria has been announced for a 2006 release in Japan, and while a North American date is expected to be forthcoming, nothing has been officially announced.
