Square Enix Hints at Future of Final Fantasy XI

At a recent Intel convention, Square Enix had a few things to say about its MMORPG, Final Fantasy XI. Specifically, the company spoke about an area known as Al'Taeiu. Introduced in the Chains of Promathia expansion, the region is mentioned more than once during some Promathian missions. It has only been described as a lost city and, thus far, has not been a playable area.

According to Square Enix representatives, however, Al'Taeiu could soon become more than just a legendary city. There is a possibility that this enigmatic region will become a new playable area for the inhabitants of Vana'diel to explore. Though nothing concrete was stated at the convention, some interesting screens of what is clearly a new area were shown and can be seen here.

Unfortunately, whether this means Square Enix is planning another expansion or just a large update to the game, if anything at all, remains to be disclosed. RPGamer will keep you posted as more information surfaces.
