Sonic Team: Phantasy Star Burned Out

The director of Sonic Team, Yojira Ogawa, has announced his development staff has "no plans" for future Phantasy Star titles. While discussing Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution, Mr. Ogawa was asked to comment on the possibility of a sequel in the Phantasy Star series proper, to which he responded that "there is no specific plan for now...we have no plan so far, and I don't know about the future."

The director expressed frustration at the scant availability of the GameCube's broadband adaptor, which inhibited the number of people able to play the GameCube iterations in the series (all were online). He did mention, however, that the US would receive an increased flow of the devices in coming months, raising the hope that at least PSO III would have the potential to do well.

Phantasy Star Online III: C.A.R.D. Revolution is set to go into worldwide release later this year. The game has an April date set for Europe, and an undisclosed 2004 target for North America.
