Square Enix Expands Wireless Operations

SQUARE ENIX

After partnering up last December with Verizon, Square Enix has taken another step deeper into the wireless world. The preeminent RPG developer has become the third largest shareholder of UI Evolution by investing $4 million into the company, with another $3 million expected in March.

The investment coincided with Square Enix USA sigining a deal to use the UIEngine, a development program for creating software that can be used with several operating systems and wireless standards. This will enable the proliferation of ring tones and games in the U.S. market.

Square Enix's president, Yoichi Wada, commented, "Our relationship with UIEvolution allows us to expand our business by reaching out to our growing wireless customer base with new products and services." He went on to say, "This market presents an enormous opportunity for growth and we expect this partnership to expand our business globally."
