Reiselied: Ephemeral Fantasia Information
Reiselied: Ephemeral Fantasia

Though originally thought of as an action game developer, Konami has made a name for themselves as an RPG developer over the past few years. Konami plans to continue RPG development with the upcoming release of Reiselied: Ephemeral Fantasia for the PlayStation 2. Reiselied follows the adventures of Mouse, a thief and musician who carries his instrument everywhere. Mouse is invited to the Island of Eternal Summer to create and play a song for the wedding between two characters known as Zeharupolis and Princess Loreiyu. Unfortunately, the Princess is not excited about the wedding, and it is up to Mouse to find out why.

Reiselied: Ephemeral Fantasia is already being acclaimed for its use of realtime transitions between engines and the effect the time of day has on the game world. When a character walks into a town from the world map, rather than fading out or displaying a loading screen, the camera will simply move normally into the town as if no transition between the two had occurred. In addition, the time of day changes during the course of the game. The current time of day can be seen on clocks in the towns. This is important, for certain events, such as the meeting of certain characters, are dependent on the current time.

The battle system looks to be similar to the standard RPG battle system, with the basic Fight, Special Ability, Magic, Item, and Run commands. There is an additional Posture command whose function is currently unknown. An "Action Counter System," represented by vertical red bars at the top of the battle screen, looks to function in a similar manner to the stamina system of Chrono Cross. This ambitious PlayStation 2 RPG does not have a firm Japanese or North American release date as of yet, but RPGamer will announce a release date when the information is received.
