GDC Awards Nominees Announced

The list is in. The Game Developer's Choice Awards nominees have been chosen, and not surprisingly, several RPGs are vying for recognition in some prestigious categories. The awards are given to- and chosen by- game developers, providing an opportunity for them to honour the best within their ranks.

Games up for nomination include Blizzard's Diablo II, which is competing for the Excellence in Audio award, Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, which is up for a Excellence in Design award, and Shenmue, which is looking to garner Game of the Year honours. Both Shenmue and Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask are up for Game Spotlight awards, which recognize no specific trait of a game, but rather a significant contribution to gaming that the particular title made. In total, up to five of these awards will be given, so there is a good possibility that at least one of these RPGs will pick up an award

Voting for the awards began yesterday, and will conclude on March 7th. A full listing of the awards, which will be given at a ceremony on the 23rd of March, is available at the GDC homepage, which can be found here. RPGamer will be at GDC to bring you all the latest news from what will be a meeting of some of the most influential names in gaming.
