Baldur's Gate Comes to PlayStation2
Black Isle

Black Isle has revealed the identity of their previously mentioned "Mystery RPG," officially announcing that they are working on Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for the PlayStation2. The title will reportedly be an entirely new game, built from scratch and designed specifically for the PlayStation2 console by Snowblind Studios. The game is being completely redesigned, rather than modified from Baldur's Gate II, in order to "take full advantage of the sophisticated PlayStation 2 technology," according to Ryan Geithman, director of the developing studio. However, the game will still take place in the familiar Dungeons & Dragons setting of other titles in the Baldur's Gate series.

Black Isle Studios is the RPG division of Interplay, and has been involved with a number of PC RPGs in the past, including previous Baldur's Gate titles. With this game, they hope to "push the [PlayStation2] hardware to its limits, thus creating stunning environmental effects and highly detailed characters never before seen on the console." The gameplay is designed to take place in a third-person perspective view, and will feature never before seen effects and spells. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance should be available for the PlayStation2 this fall.
