Interplay Tacks On A .Com

Earlier this week, RPGamer reported that Black Isle was developing a mystery RPG. While the game itself has not been named as yet, Black Isle's parent company, Interplay, announced today it is creating an online front for its company, Interplay.com, while simultaneously announcing their company is developing an MMORPG.

It seems likely this is the new RPG under development by Black Isle; the company is promising an announcement later this week to reveal more details of the game, as it had previously announced when the mystery RPG was first unveiled. In the meantime, Interplay.com is currently offering streamed demos to broadband users, with a special demo of Baldur's Gate II central among the offerings. Broadband access is central to Interplay's strategy; according to Cal Morrell, former vice president of marketing for Interplay, president of Interplay.com, "With the exploding number of broadband customers estimated to reach nearly 15 million households by 2002, Interplay.com seeks to penetrate this market by creating an unmatched online fantasy experience."

The penetration begins tomorrow, when a conference call is scheduled to announce details of the online division's formation. Additionally, the company has promised more information about the game will be released on Thursday, so by the end of the week, there should be a fair bit of information available about this mysterious game.
