New Interview with Neverwinter Nights Producer

A recent interview at Gaming Unlimited reveals a good bit of information about the upcoming PC RPG, Neverwinter Nights. In the interview, Trent Oster (the game's producer) answers a number of questions about how the game has evolved and how the new Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition rules will affect gameplay.

Some noteworthy passages from the interview:

Gaming Unlimited: Will there be animations for character social actions such as pointing, waving, crying, etc.?

Oster: Yes, we will be including a number of emotes and social animations for our players to draw on. Not only will they add depth to inter-player relations, dungeon masters and module designers can also apply them to non-player characters, bringing them to life.

Gaming Unlimited: As in games such as Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II, will you be able to attack anyone at any time, such as townsfolk? If so, are there any guards that will come to that person's aid?

Oster: Yes and yes. We are building in a faction system which tracks and weighs your standing with various groups within each given module. If you mistreat a family of squatters in Neverwinterâs Beggarsâ Nest district, the nobles may turn a blind eye to your actions but Aribeth and the Tyrist clergy probably wonât be too impressed. This system allows the module creator a great degree of flexibility in controlling guards and managing player behaviour.

Neverwinter Nights is currently slated for release sometime this year for Windows 9x / Macintosh. RPGamer will bring you more information on this upcoming PC RPG as it is available.
