Final Fantasy X Staff Revealed

A new article at the Gaming Intelligence Agency sports a list of the key members of the development team for Square's upcoming PS2 RPG, Final Fantasy X:

  • Director: Yoshinori Kitase (FF8)
  • Scenario: Kazushige Nojima (FF8)
  • Art Director: Yusuke Naora (FF8)
  • Character Design: Tetsuya Nomura (FF8)
  • Battle Director: Toshiro Tsuchida (Front Mission)

Most noteworthy among these names is Toshiro Tsuchida, best known as director for Square's Front Mission series. The Front Mission games have always featured a tactical combat system far, far removed from the Active Time Battle system for which Final Fantasy is known. While this is a strong indicator that Final Fantasy X's combat system will mark a dramatic departure from the series' norm, Square has not yet released any information on exactly how the combat system will work.

A particularly interesting point towards the end of the article deals with the game's "world view" perspective. Since Final Fantasy X's announcement, Square has maintained that while exploring the game's world, the transition from the overworld to towns and dungeons would be seamless. Previously it was rumored that the game's camera would be situated behind the character, offering a third-person perspective similar to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. However, now it appears that the character will be viewed from an overhead perspective similar to previous games in the series.

Final Fantasy X is slated for a Japanese release this March, for PlayStation2. RPGamer will keep you updated as more information on the game is received.
