Sakura Taisen Dreamcast to Feature Anti-Piracy Mechanism
Dreamcast

Software pirates, beware -- Sega's Sakura Taisen Special Edition Dreamcast previously reported on will refuse to run CD-ROM software. This includes the Gameshark CDX and Bleemcast (if it is released on CD-ROM), as well as pirated games. Instead, the new console will run only GD-ROM games, which none have been able to duplicate yet. Though this special edition Dreamcast will most likely only be released in Japan, this precedent reveals that it is only a matter of time before updated North American Dreamcast models utilize the same type of protection.

Sega will still allow their system to play audio CDs, but other CD software will simply be disregarded. The new models are expected to replace the old Dreamcast models in Japan very soon. The company's North American anti-piracy plans are still unknown, but something similar will undoubtedly arrive here very soon.
