Squall the Rock Star? *updated*

    With the Japanese release of Final Fantasy VIII approaching rapidly, new information has been released on the highly anticipated title that will appeal to aspiring musicians.

    During a party at Garden, Selphie asks Squall and the others to form a band. Among the instruments available to the band members are guitars, the saxophone, the piano, and the flute. It is unclear whether this will be an interactive event, or just something to sit back and enjoy, but the possibility of turning the heroes into music stars is sure to appeal to many gamers.

    Square also announced today that preorders of Final Fantasy VIII have reached 1,078,017 through January 24th. In reaching a million units in just one month, Final Fantasy VIII beat Final Fantasy VII by two weeks.
