Hi, my name is Wheels and I'm a Monster
Hunter addict. My Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
play clock is now approaching one-hundred and thirty
hours. Mind you this was sitting at sixty-eight or so
hours not two months ago. Anyway, I'm also digging into Demon
Gaze for review, which is an odd title, and playing
Gods Eater Burst to do some research on Monster
Hunter clones. Don't forget the last day for Final
Fantasy Second Chance entries is tomorrow, May
31st!
Anyway, let's get to it.

What's your least favourite thing about Kawazu? #mailbag
Wheels' Comment
Least favorite?
I'm not sure I have a least favorite thing. I'd
probably have to say Unlimited Saga though.
We've discussed the value it does have if you're
willing to take the time, but there's no doubt
that game hurt the SaGa series. So that
would have to be my least favorite thing,
emphasizing that the word favorite is still
being used here.

Will the West ever get Final Fantasy Type-0?
Wheels' Comment
I seem to be
failing with this kind of prediction of late so
I'm just going to say no unless it's ported to
the PS3/PS4 and vastly updated. The Final
Fantasy name still holds weight in the
West, so it seems odd to begin with that we
didn't get a major entry like this. The game is
not as good (in my opinion) as importers have
made it out to be, so not quite worth the fuss.
I'm sure more will find this out once the fan
translation is released.

Is the fabled .HACK
review about the original series (that the company now
disowns) or the Rebirth series?
Wheels' Comment
It's for the first
G.U. game which I quite enjoyed. I would
like to go back and review the original series
as well at some point. I've always liked the
whole concept behind them. I'm hoping Sword
Art Online can do something interesting
with it as well.

Thoughts on PS Now?
-InstaTrent
Wheels' Comment
I find PS Now
pretty insulting when it's described as a
backward compatibility solution. The whole point
of backward compatibility is to use something
you already own, so I'm not sure how a new
streaming service does that unless they're going
to let me insert a disc for an old game and get
free access. Not to mentioned the number of
games available will take ages to match the
massive PS1/PS2/PS3 catalogs.
Now on the other hand, as a service for games
you don't have a physical copy of, I think it's
a great idea to get access for more stuff
without having to track down physical copies or
suck up hard drive space. So I'm all for the
service. Just stop telling me it's a backwards
compatibility thing Sony.

Ys VIII
What's your wish list for Falcom's next Ys title,
and should that title be 8, or an Ys V remake?
-FBM
Wheels' Comment
I'm not sure on this one. My gut
tells me they should wait though, as I'd love to
see an Ys VIII on PS4 if it takes off at
all in Japan. It is hardware-wise close to their
old bread and butter of PC games. So with that
in mind, a remake of Ys V would be
fantastic. The original is not highly regarded,
so doesn't seem like a bad idea to give it a
redo. As far as actual mechanics go, I'd love
another party based game, but one that ditches
the "rock-paper-scissors" approach and just
makes each character a unique and interesting
asset in battle. Also, just for you, I hope they
bring back jumping.

There were a number
of things I didn't like about Final Fantasy
Type-0. It had the same awful world map
that the story mode in the second Dissidia was
plagued with. The combat was OK, but nothing as
spectacular as I had been led to believe. There
were some quite awful missions, especially some
involving weird RGS segments on the world map.
In general the game just felt like an attempt to
apply Final Fantasy to a Monster
Hunter/Phantasy Star Online type
formula that didn't work all that well. That
said, I will give it a second chance once the
fan translation is released.
My favorite SMT game? That's a tough
call. I don't think I've not enjoyed an entry
except perhaps the first Persona on
PSP, which somehow corrupted all the saves on my
system. I'm going to have to say Persona 4
though. To me it's the best all around title
Atlus has released so far. It's tough to make a
game that engages so well for that length of
time. I'm looking forward to seeing what else
the series does in the future. It's a great time
to be an SMT fan!

Hot Topics
Here are some hot topics I've seen around
the net:
- JRPGs don't seem to be having much trouble selling
decently in the West, so where has Dragon Quest
gone?
- Atlus is quickly loading up PSN with their PS2
classics. What other Atlus PS2 releases would you like
to see on PSN?
- If Child of Light is a success, will we see
more RPGs with the UbiArt engine?
- Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?
See you next week!
