THE MANUAL ------------------------------------------ All controls listed here are set to Tales of Phantasia's default controls, thought they can be altered (see GAME CUSTOMIZATION/OPTIONS MENU in section) ---L--- ---R--- ^ X | <- -> Y A | / / v select start B (D-Pad) ------------------------------------------ 1.1 THE ENVIRONMENT ------------------------------------------ Quick Reference: D-Pad - Walk A - Talk/Search/Open/Use (Also activates Wings in over world) B - Run (someone in the party must have the jet boots equipped for this) Y - Nothing X - Status Menu L/R - inactive Select - inactive Start - Show/Hide Map & Compass (over world only) The over world/dungeon system is very similar to that of the Final Fantasy games for the Super Famicom. ------------------------------------------ 1.2 THE BATTLE SYSTEM ------------------------------------------ Quick Reference: D-Pad - left and right to walk, up for alternate attacks. A - Slice Attack (Up and A for Stab Attack) B - Technique Attack (Up and B for Alternate) X - Menu Spell (select caster, select spell, select target) Disposition (select character, select disposition) Formation (move character order using icons) Item (select item, select target) Y - Enemy Target Select L/R - head party to the left or right, run, also can be used to change the direction the party formation is facing. Select - inactive Start - Pause the Game Because of the very different nature of the Battle System in Tales of Phantasia, I will go into more detail on how it is operated. In ToP's Linear Motion Battle System (LMB), the character Cless is the only real player character, as generally the others are controlled by the computer (see section 1.9 DISPOSITION MENU). To attack with Cless, press A. This will access his SLICE attack. He also has a STAB attack, which is executed by holding up and pressing A. While the slice is usually more powerful, the stab is a good way to keep enemies further away, though be advised, it is a slower attack. To access his techniques, (see section 1.4.1 for an explanation) hit B for the default and up and B for the alternate. You will see an S or L on the closest enemy by default. S is for Short Range, and L is for Long Range. Cless will occasionally use two types of jumping attacks, which are generally more powerful than the regular ones. To target an enemy other than the closest, press the Y button. If you want to access the other character's options, press the X button. This will bring up four icons. The first is spell (the magical staff icon). You can select this option by pressing A, then the cursor will move down to the character names. Spell casters who are not busy will appear in White letters. Move the cursor to the desired spell user's name and press A. A menu list of available spells will appear. Select the desired spell and press A, then the cursor will move to the frozen battle area. Move the cursor onto the desired target and press A. To cancel out any of these menus at any time, just hit B. The disposition menu (sword icon) is described in greater detail a little later, but to use it in battle, select the sword icon, then the character whose disposition you wish to edit by pressing A, and then the disposition you with to set them to and press A. The formation menu (the human head icon) allows you to switch the order of your party. Sometimes it helps to place weakened party members in the middle so they take less abuse. Just select the party member you wish to move by pressing A and moving him/her in between two others. Finally, the Item menu (potion icon) allows you to use certain items in combat. The items with green circles are available, orange Xs indicate those items are unusable. Select the item you wish you use by pressing A, and then who/what you wish to use it on and press A again. The L and R buttons will move your entire part lefty or right (though they follow Cless around anyhow). Once you reach the end of the screen, holding L or R (depending on which side you are on) will begin a timer from 10 to 0. You can run away once that timer reaches 0. Keep in mind that if Cless gets hit, the timer will need to restart at 10. Kill those wizards! ------------------------------------------ 1.3 THE MAIN MENU ------------------------------------------ Quick Reference: D-Pad - Move cursor to desired sub-menu A - Go to sub-menu B - Cancel/return to environment X - inactive Y - inactive L/R - inactive Select - inactive Start - inactive This menu is the one when you press X from the environment. It shows sprites for the chars and their HP, TP and Levels. Select a sub menu by moving the cursor to that menu's name and pressing the A button. _____________________________________________ Skills Item Formation Custom Equip Disposition Status Save _____________________________________________ [Middle Window with characters and info] _____________________________________________ Time -:-- GP ------ Battles Won ---- Food --- _____________________________________________ ------------------------------------------ 1.4 THE SKILLS MENU ------------------------------------------ This menu allows you to see the various skills each character posses, like weapon techniques or spells. You can switch whose skills you are viewing by moving the cursor with the D-Pad the character icon and pressing left or right. ------------------------------------------ 1.4.1 Cless Alvein (Warrior) ------------------------------------------ Cless has 4 sword techniques he can equip at any given time. Two Short Range, and two Long range attacks (65% of you probably just realized what the S and L are for). The top attack is execute by pressing the B button, the other attack is executed by holding Up and pressing the B button. These are the attacks I currently have - keep in mind that they are NOT arranged in the order I acquired them, they are arranged in the order that the MENU places them in, so the ones you have may be different. Cless usually learns new techniques after gaining levels. Later in the game, more techniques must be bought or taught to you by others. As for the ones marked with ??s, please email emuicon@hotmail.com if you know where to find them! Also, for the others, if you know what level Cless learns the tech on, please e-mail me. NOTE: The Combo attacks require you to have 100% on certain other techniques, and those are built up by (SURPRISE!) using them. Keep in mind that it always the ones that the combo consists of that you need to build up. Until the required attacks are built up, the combos will appear dark gray and will not be able to selected. Afterwards they will show up in teal. The best way to build up the attacks is to sit outside a town, and use only the attacks, then visiting the inn after you've run out of TP. This is also a great way to build up levels. If anyone knows the system of how the other combos are learned, please let me know. (TP) Name -Description SHORT RANGE (7) Tiger Teeth -Three hits, each at about 1.5x normal damage (5) Light Barrier -Keeps enemies away (also a Long Range Tech) (15) Flurry Hit -Lots of slightly weaker hits in a row, this is great for stunning or keeping pesky spell casters at bay (12) Power Slice -One powerful hit, but takes a moment to execute (10) Burning Sword -Flaming Stab, then throw fiery sword (6) Recover -Cures Cless' HP (also a Long Range Tech) (20) Concentration II -Speed/Defense Up More (also a Long Range Tech) (6) Concentration -Speed/Defense Up (also a Long Range Tech) (4) Double Kick Swing -Two jump kicks and a swing - kind of lame. (9) Flame Wall Stab -A fire attack combined with a powerful stab *1 (30) Energy Wave -Two parts to this one. First the shield Cless generates can do about 300-700 damage per hit (though many later enemies are immune to this) then there are several energy crescents that damage enemies at about 500-1000 damage each. *2 (30) Teleport Attack -Three parts to this one - the way down on the teleport (like the Jump command from Final Fantasy), the stab, then a jumping slice on the way back up LONG RANGE (2) Ground Thunder -Shoots an energy spike along the ground (5) Light Barrier -Keeps enemies away (also a Short Range Tech) (14) Lionheart Attack -Gathers enemies by rushing then damages them (6) Recover -Cures Cless' HP (also a Short Range Tech) (20) Concentration II -Speed/Defense Up More (also a Short Range Tech) (6) Concentration -Speed/Defense Up (also a Short Range Tech) (8) Phoenix Attack -Fire elemental attack, takes time to execute (8) Lightning Attack -Can hit multiple enemies if they are close *2 (30) Teleport Attack -Three parts to this one - the way down on the teleport (like the Jump command from Final Fantasy), the stab, then a jumping slice on the way back up *3 (25) Energy Sword -Three powerful hits and a dome explosion. COMBINATION ATTACKS: (Teal/Grey Lettered Techniques) (9) Double Kick Swing + Ground Thunder *4 (15) Ground Thunder + Tiger Teeth -Tiger Teeth on steroids (16) Flurry Hit + Ground Thunder (10) Flame Wall Stab + Ground Thunder *5 (12) Double Kick Swing + Lionheart Attack (13) Lionheart Attack + Tiger Teeth *6 (28) Flurry Hit + Lionheart Attack -Walk, no real Lionheart *7 (13) Flame Wall Stab + Lionheart Attack *8 (17) Flame Wall Stab + Lightning Attack (20) Tiger Teeth + Lightning Attack ?? (21) ???? + ???? *9 (17) Lightning Attack + Double Kick Swing *10(20) Phoenix Attack + Double Kick Swing *11(25) Phoenix Attack + Tiger Teeth -Two Tiger Teethes (21) Phoenix Attack + Flurry Hit *12(18) Phoenix Attack + Flame Wall Stab *2 (50) Energy Sword + Energy Wave *2 (40) Teleport Attack + Energy Wave WHERE TO FIND THE COMBINATION ATTACKS: *1 - this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be given to you by Odin after you defeat FlameBelk in the Fire Tower. *2 - these attacks cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be given to you by Origin after you defeat him and get the Eternal Sword. Again, keep and eye on your TP! *3 - this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be given to you by Fenrir after you defeat the Fangbeast in the Ice Cave. *4 - this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be given to you by a man in the town of Miguel (Future Totus). His house is next to the western exit of the town, the book is in the chest of drawers in the northwest corner of the house. *5 - this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be bought from a man- his house is on the map, directly east of the Yumir forest at the edge of the continent. He sells the book for 12,000 Gald. *6 - this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be given to you by Suzu's Grandfather after you defeat Suzu's parents at the Coliseum. It greatly upgrades the power of the flurry hit and makes it a useful attack again. *7 - this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be bought from a man in the town of Freezekill. He is in the Inn in the northwest corner of the building. He sells the book for 33,000 Gald. *8 - this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be bought from a man in the snowfield on your way to Dhaos' Castle. It costs 50,000 Gald to learn this technique, but it is fairly effective. To find the man, leaving from Mid Gald, enter the snowfield area and go: Up, Up, Right, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right, Up *9 - this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be found in a chest on floor 22 of the Morlia Dungeon in the future, after defeating the Wyvern. *10- this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be bought from a man in the city of Mid Galds. He is in between two building in a shadow directly down from the door to the shop that sells accessories in the north end of town, just to the right of the exit to the over world. It costs 18,000 Gald to learn this technique. It's not really worth it, but if you want to have all the techniques, it's not that much money at this point in the game. *11- this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be bought from a man in the southernmost Oasis in the desert east of the Olive Village. He sells the attack for 40,000 Gald, and I do recommend spending The cash on this one, as the TWO tigers teeth it executes can be VERY effective. *12- this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be bought from a man in the city of Miguel (Future Totus). He is in the keno school in the northwestern part of town. He sells it for 20,000 Gald. I recommend the Flurry Hit and the Power slice for S, and the Phoenix and Lightning Attacks for L. If you do not have the power slice yet (you will most likely get this attack in the Yumir Forest, the 3x Hit attack is a good alternative. However, once the combo attacks become available, the Phoenix Attack + Flurry Hit is a great killer move. Just keep an eye on your TP! *12- this attack cannot be learned by gaining levels. It must be bought from a man in the Ali town in the Future. He sells the attack for 50,000 Gald in the Inn, on the far right. SNES PAD COMBOS: You can buy a SNES pad relic for 5 million Gald from a man south of the Olive Village (in the future). If Cless is equipped with this, his attack powers are both increased by 10, and he can use ANY technique he has learned by executing the correct set of controller movements, then pressing the B button. SWING = keep the pad held down, and slide your thumb to the next position. I swear I thought she was saying, "white tornado". Oh well. First Aid and Heal are like Cure1 and Cure2, for you Final Fantasy fans. Nurse heals everyone at a Cure3 Level, and Cure is the equivalent of Cure4. Resurrection is the final spell, curing everyone at the level of the Cure Spell power. Mint is the only natural spell learner; that is, her spells are acquired by gaining levels. Lester (Caller/Summoner) ------------------------------------------ Klarth is cool when you first get Sylph, but quickly become outdated when Arche joins the party. He's pretty useless between when Arche joins and the point where he gets the newer elemental call spells. Go to a spell under the SKILLS MENU and hit Y with the cursor over the spell you'd like to activate/deactivate. This is useful if you are, for example, in a cave with fire based monsters, because you can prevent the casting of fire spells that will heal those monsters, and only allow damaging ice spells to be auto-cast. Mint's healing spells can be cast out of battle. Spells that can be cast out of battle will have a green circle next to them, those that cannot will have an orange X. ------------------------------------------ 1.5 THE ITEM MENU ------------------------------------------ Quick Reference: A - Use Item (select target character) B - Cancel/Return to previous menu X - inactive Y - inactive L/R - Page Up/Page Down Select - inactive Start - inactive The Item menu has a list of their items and an icon and description for each at the bottom. Also, when the cursor is on any given item, the top row of buttons will have one indented, indicating what type of item it is. The Inventory System is similar to the one in Tales of Destiny. You may only carry 15 of any one type of item (that sucks when you're in certain dungeons where lots of enemies poison and stone and paralyze you. The item system is similar to that of the Final Fantasy series' system, it's easy. The buttons at the top allow you organize them by type (I shouldn't need to explain them) and the two Kanji symbols mean: First one: In order that you acquired them (ALWAYS do this after you are in story sequences) Second one: Arrange by type (More commonly used items like potions come first) Also, above these symbols is another box. Selecting this (Press Up from the symbols) will display your rare items (keys, quest items, etc.) Important Items: Red Gels (Apple Gummies) cure HP by 30% of max Orange Gels (Orange Gummies) cure TP by 30% of max Pink Gels (Mixed Gummies) cure both HP and TP by 30% of max Yellow Gels (Lemon & Pine Gummies) cure TP or HP by 60% of max Teal Gels (Miracle Gummies) cure HP and TP by 60% of max Brown Bulbous Potions cure conditions: Try to ALWAYS have 15 of these Blue angular Bottles are life potions White Potions (Holy Bottle) repel enemies from you (less encounters) Black Potions draw enemies nearer (more encounters) Orange Teapots up attack power 30% Green Flasks cure poison at a cost of 20% attack power. Pink Potions (Rune Bottles) identify items (those white cards, e.g. ?SWORD and ?BOOK) they can also be used to further the enchantment on certain items (try it on an emerald ring to get a fairy ring!) Food (Chicken, Apples, Cheese, Steak, Sushi, etc.) - use these (up to 200 points) to gradually heal your HP. Every step you take in a dungeon or on a map will regenerate HP. This can be VERY useful (I just found out about it on level 34!) The Morlia Orb allows you to set your encounter rate to: NORMAL - LOW - HIGH (It's like a permanent, adjustable holy/black bottle) ------------------------------------------ 1.6 THE FORMATION/PARTY SELECT MENU ------------------------------------------ Quick Reference: D-Pad - move the cursor A - Select character to move B - Cancel X - inactive Y - inactive L/R - inactive Select - inactive Start - inactive Use this menu to set the order in which the party faces the monsters. Be Aware that magic users have their spells selected by the computer, and they can use up TP quicker than you can regenerate it in battles. Plus, they might use a fire spell on a fire based creature and heal it, or something silly like that. See the SKILLS menu on choosing which spells your characters will cast. Mint: Normal (she will heal you and also cast delay a lot) Heal those with Low HP Heal as soon as needed Inactive Everyone Else: Normal (Mainly Physical attacks, some magic) Aggressive (Cast Lots of Spells) Help Others (Will Attack whoever Cless is Attacking) Inactive (Defend Only) I recommend: Chester: Normal or aggressive Mint :Value HP (she'll cure you once your HP falls to the point where it's Appropriate, and she gains enough TP not to ever really run out.) Klarth :Inactive... save his spells for when they're needed, but if you're fighting a boss, set him to aggressive and target the boss. Arche :Same as Klarth, though sometimes it's nice to set her to normal and let her take some of the enemies out, too. ------------------------------------------ 1.10 THE STATUS MENU ------------------------------------------ Name ------ (Left or Right to Cycle Characters, A to Rename them) [Portrait] Class ------ (Cless' Status Stars, See Appendix H) This Area Displays your Equipment Level -- Weapon ------ Hit Points --/-- Armor ------ Tech Points --/-- Shield ------ Experience Points ------- Head ------ Experience Needed for Level Up ------- Hands ------ Strength --- Accessory No.1 ------ Constitution --- Accessory No.2 ------ Agility --- Luck --- Disposition ------ (For Cless, press down to see his equipped techniques here) Attack Power --- Defense Power --- Accuracy --- Dodge --- ------------------------------------------ 1.11 SAVE ------------------------------------------ You can save your game in three different save slots. Pressing A over a save slot will bring up a verification screen. Press A again to save. To cancel the save or return to the main menu, press B. Just remember to do this as often as possible. ------------------------------------------ 1.12 MISC. ISSUES ------------------------------------------ These are a few little tips, tricks, and oddities in ToP. ------------------------------------------ 1.12.1 EXPERIENCE BUILDING TIPS ------------------------------------------ There are several places in the game that are great areas to build up certain characters. The present is all really easy, so here are my favorite spots for the Past and Future. Cless: Past - The Yumir Forest Future - There are several good places to build up Cless Depending on your level. The first thing you should do to build up Cless' levels is get the red card from Graham's Treasure quest (see Appendix F). Then try a few Coliseum Battles. Mint/Klarth: Past - Yumir Forest Future - Yumir Forest till Lvl 65 Morlia Gallery at Lvl 65+ Arche: Past - Future - Also a pain the butt cause they won't let her in to Yumir. Try the Fire Tower or Ice Cave, and then the Morlia Gallery. ------------------------------------------ 1.12.2 USEFUL AND INTERESTING ------------------------------------------ Tales of Phantasia's Hard Mode: That's right, HARD mode. To access this is simple. Instead of hitting "A" to start a new game, hit ABXY. ALL FOUR. ALL AT THE SAME TIME. If you get it right, you'll hear the cast yell "Ya Ta!" ("Got It!"). Then begin the game as usual, but the enemies will be more difficult. I did try this one, and it works. On Bows and Bottles" If you use a rune bottle on a Short Bow to change it to a Sylph Bow, the selling price will remain the same. If you do this 10 times in a row, the description as to why the price is the same will appear in the item description. Ending Music Select Before the ending of the game begins, you can select the background music by hitting L or R. ------------------------------------------ 1.12.3 DANGEROUS ------------------------------------------ Game Freeze #1 After receiving the Time Sword, visiting the Dark Town may produce a scene between Cless and Mint after which the screen fades to black and the music begins to loop. Controller buttons have no effect on this, and you must reset your game. Game Freeze #2 If Cless uses an Orizine in battle, sometimes the graphics may scramble and this may freeze the game. Save Ram Erase In a dungeon, if your Controller buttons suddenly cease to work, hitting the reset button may erase your save ram. Damn those Sylphs Breakin' Wind It is possible to be trapped by the Sylph's Winds on their mountain. Damn that Little Kid If you race that kid in Alvanista's past, and pass him up, you may get stuck. Dhaos AGAIN? Sometimes if you save in Dhaos' castle after defeating him, and then lose to him in the present, you may have to fight him again! Save your game! Item Loss in Last Dungeon When using the Dedis Emblem in the last dungeon, an item may disappear from your inventory. Curse of Too Many Items If you have over 200 TYPES of items in your inventory, upon gaining more, you may notice items randomly changing into chicken legs (the food item). ------------------------------------------ 1.12.4 SILLY MISTAKES ------------------------------------------ Morlia's Misprint If you visit the Morlia Gallery in the future, and decide to go further down, you will lose all your Holy Bottles. However, if you have no Holy Bottles to begin with, It tells you that all of your Rune Bottles have been lost, when in actuality, it is your Poison Cure (Penicillin) that has been lost. You've got Crabs In some of the ports, if you wait in a path of only one width, a crab may wander in and block your exit. Could take hours to get out. block your exit. Could take hours to get out. ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------ 2. THE WALKTHROUGH ------------------------------------------ This walkthrough goes into pretty heavy detail at some points, so to avoid spoiling the entire game for yourself, try not to read ahead. ------------------------------------------ 2.1 HUMBLE BEGINNINGS ------------------------------------------ -If there is evil in the world, it lies in the hearts of men -Edward D. Morrison ------------------------------------------ 2.1.1 THE INTRODUCTION ------------------------------------------ The introduction shows several characters fighting a large man, who screams something about the Gods being angry with humanity before he is struck by the wizard's lightning and turned into a ball of light floating through gray space. 2.1.2 TOTUS TOWN ------------------------------------------ You The hero (default name is Cless) are in your fathers training home. You and Chester are going on a hunting trip in the forest. After all your talking is over, go south and exit the village. An old man will leave saying some stuff. Exit the town and head south into the forest. 2.1.3 THE FOREST SOUTH OF TOTUS ------------------------------------------ You enter to see a wild boar, which you have to chase through the forest to kill. The enemies are not hard in here, just attack them normally. Follow the boar until you can head to a point which goes north. Go north to collect an Antidote. Then continue on going south and east until you go north again to come upon a dead tree. Chester leaves the party for a moment, and you see an interesting cut scene. After this, Chester returns and you fight the first boss of the game, the Wild Boar. Just keep attacking him, you should have no problem. After the battle, you here a bell ringing. 2.1.4 FIRE! ------------------------------------------ Hurry back to the town to discover that it is burned to a crisp. All the people are dead. Hurry to your house and discover everyone in there is dead too. In Cheater's house he is mourning the loss of his family. Go into the upstairs of your house for a sword. Then exit the town and head north. 2.1.5 THE CLIFFS ------------------------------------------ I recommend you're being on about Lvl. 5 for this, as the birds can get hard. Also if you have some spare cash, buy some Red Gels from the lady at the shop. Then head north through the path. It shouldn't take long. 2.1.6 EUCLID ------------------------------------------ There isn't much to do here. You can buy some items from the man at the shop on the street, I recommend the shield. After you are done, head to the house at the top left hand corner of the city. A man welcomes you, and lets you rest. The man will turn you over to a cult, and taken to a prison where something gets stolen from you. 2.1.7 JAILED ------------------------------------------ You are thrown into a jail cell, and are stuck. Inspect the crack in the wall. Eventually, someone talks to you and a hole opens to become a door. Walk through and check the corpse. You'll find a new sword for Cless. Go open the cell to the east, to meet your third character, Mint. She joins your party and you must escape the prison. The next part is pretty straight forward, no tricks. Just make sure to get the new sword and shield for Cless. Once you have collected them, head to the second save point. Hopefully you got some levels, because you will at least need to be Lvl. 8 to beat this upcoming boss. Attack the slime's first, as they do the most damage. Then head to the flying demon, who isn't very hard. Keep healing Cless with Mint and just attack. After the battle, head out going east. 2.1.8 FOREST SCENE ------------------------------------------ When you exit, you head into a forest where Mint gets attacked by a slime. Cless defends her, and in knocked unconscious. 2.1.9 THE HOUSE ------------------------------------------ You then wake up in a bed inside a house where Mint is there with another man. After you talk to them, go outside and you will see an arrow being shot into the tree in front of you. Your friend, Chester has come to help you. When you try to leave, the old man that left the town that got burned shows up and talks to you. Make sure to buy some Healing products. Do not buy armor or weapons except the Staff for Mint, and a bow for Chester. You will be able to get them next. Next, go northeast to a cave in the mountains. Nothing much in the cave, but go north for an Identify Bottle. Then go right to find the old man again. This time he sends you into the shrine and this can get a little long. 2.1.10 THE SHRINE ------------------------------------------ This shrine can get maze-ish, but when you see it its pretty easy. Once you enter, go through all the small doors, there will be a coffin which you can search and fight an enemy for a Treasure. If you didn't buy Equipment in the house, its best to get all of these, because you can get the 2 expensive armors and a sword for Cless. Once you are done with that, go left and down the stairs. This is the maze-ish part, (sorry currently I don't remember the exact route to go) Eventually you'll find a statue, search it and you will be attacked. This battle isn't hard, keep normal attacking. Once he is beaten, you can pull the statue. Pull the statue down the corridor all the way down to the far bottom left. Place it over the switch and head through the door. Again my memory is getting to me, I believe there is a chest in here which you must open, then head all the way back to that first room with the big door you couldn't open. Go through the door and move onto the big Magical Symbol. Enter and go right onto the moving panels. Go onto the north panel, and flick the switch. Come back, and go right onto the panel and then go down the stairs, you will knock over a ruby which you need to go get. Hit the circle thing up at the top so that you are flying. Go back across the panel and go down the stairs. You will see the ruby, get it and keep going to get a chest. You may lose your flying ability and land onto the glistening green stuff, which makes you loose HP whenever you walk on it hurry and get back out. Then go to the right panel again, and go through the north door. While walking across to the north door, you will be attacked again by both statues. You should be on about Lv.8 about now so these fights area piece of cake right? Go through the door after beating the monsters, and you will see a huge scene, which I will keep secret for now. ------------------------------------------ 2.2 ONE HUNDRED YEARS IN THE PAST ------------------------------------------ After that large scene, you end up in the past. Head out of this screen to the Totus of the past. Head to the northern part of the town where all the crowded people are. They will introduce you to the elder of the village. After a very long chat with him, you decide to rest of the night. This is one of the humorous parts in the game, and one of the most sweet ^_^ After sleeping, exit and talk to the lady. She gives you an item and you may leave. Make sure to go to the weapon store here, as their are many powerful items. I suggest the ax, as it has high attack power, but it also makes your defense drop a little. Also pick up new armor for you and Mint. Once that is done you can head north to the pass in the mountains (again). 2.2.1 EUCLID AND KLARTH ------------------------------------------ This is the Euclid of the past. Once you enter, talk to the man behind the Inn sign, you'll see an interesting scene then continue on to the weapons shop. Buy a shield for yourself here. Then go to the top of the village and go into the right house, you will be in the town Library. Talk to the man with the hat, Klarth, and he will join you. 2.2.2 SYLPH'S MOUNTAIN ------------------------------------------ Next, head northeast to the mountain of Sylph. Enter the hut once you go in the mountain, and talk to the man. After that, go out and go north to a small town. Here you may want to buy an ax, as it is very powerful (the 2000 G one) if you don't got the cash, don't worry about it. After that, go to the Items store and pick up a Pick ax and a rope, as you will need them for the mountain. Leave and go back to the mountain. This time head up one screen, search the rocks and you will use one of the pick axes you bought. Head up and right to find a group of Sylphs around a rock. Search them and defeat them, they are not very hard. Next go down for a hidden chest and continue north. Here you will find a save point, and whirlwind type things. If you want to get rid of these you must defeat the sylphs around them. Anyway, go through these first whirlwinds and enter the cave to the north. You'll see more sylphs making more wind, leave them for now and let the wind carry you right. Use the rope my searching the wooden peg and climb down. You'll be in a small cave, its pretty straight forward, just pick the rocks down and keep heading left after the second one. Go up the rope and again, you must defeat the sylphs. After you do so, the wind yet again stops. This time save your game, and go up where the find the Poison Clouds cause by that little pool over in the left hand corner. Go right a bit and you'll see a spot to use the pickax, do so and drag the rock over into the pond. Make sure to watch your HP as it will deplete when you touch it. After this is complete, go to the far right and down to see more sylphs and a place to go down. Attach the rope and slide on down. You'll find that your in a room with Red clouds which is poison gas again and a guy hops down. He is actually a very hard bad guy, and whenever you get into a fight down here its usually with him. So you have to run, cause you cant hurt him. press the L or R button depending on what way your facing. You have to do the same thing here with the rocks, this time there are 2 though. After this is complete all the poison gas should be gone, and you should have no problem getting out. Pick up the chests on the way, and go out of the caves, Once out head to the right onto the cliffs to get the Sylph call spell. Now you are completed this evil, evil mountain. 2.2.3 TOTUS FOREST AGAIN ------------------------------------------ Go back to Totus and head into the forest. Remember that busted up tree you saw? Head to it. Mint tries to heal it with her magic, which doesn't work. Therefore you must go elsewhere. 2.2.4 EUCLID REVISITED, THE M"YSTERIOUS WOMAN ------------------------------------------ Here you must talk to the women behind the Inn sign, then the blue haired man in the weapon shop, then the women then the man again. They will leave the town. Head north past the Sylph Mountain to that village. You will find it in shambles, much like Totus was in the future. Talk to the pink haired women who joins you, but not as a playable character. 2.2.5 VENETIA ------------------------------------------ Here, you will need to chase around the couple again. I'm not going to tell you where they are just search the towns rooms and you will find them. After that, in front of the fountain, go up and left. You'll see a small boat, talk to the man and go to Number 4, enter the door and talk to everyone in the room. Then exit and go to Number 2, where you should pick up the appropriate armaments. I suggest the spear highly :) After that, go out of the boat and head to the place you started from. Then, head right, and talk to the big ships captain. He will take you to the offshore castle for 1600 Gald. 2.2.6 DEMITEL'S CASTLE AND ARCHE ------------------------------------------ Once you arrive on the island, enter the castle. Head to the right screen, and enter the far right door for some chests, go out and to the left screen, you may want to save your game in the top door, but continue on to the bottom closest door and enter. Head to the far back-left of the room and get the barley visible chest. Then search the closet right about it to get the key. Head back to the right wing of the castle, where you saw that locked door. Enter the locked door, and head left (you can now get into battles in this room) Talk to the tree a few times, and you will get into a battle. Use special skills on the 2 trees, those apples can pack a mean punch. After the tree is defeated, head back to the main room and open the middle curtain. Then turn the crystals so that the 2 left hit the Orbs on the platform. The way to the boss is now opened. This is one of the more challenging parts in the game, since the main boss is at the very back to the right, where there are about 4 people blocking him. Make sure to attack him whenever he is chanting a spell, as it will more than likely kill you in one hit. Just use Cless to attack the Golems and once they are defeated, go after Demitel. Make sure to use all your special skills in the battle, as they are basically essential. Use the lighting stab one on the boss, as its the only thing that substantially hurts him. After the battle, the NPC will become Arche. 2.2.7 SPELLS FOR ARCHE ------------------------------------------ Now that you've got Arche, you can get some cool spells for her by going back to old locations. In Venetia, the person in the house left of the fountain will sell the Storm and the Lightning spells. If you go back to Euclid, you can search the far right bookshelf for Arche's Ice Tornado. And if you go all the way back to Totus, you can chat with the mayor for the Eruption spell. 2.2.8 VENETIA REVISITED ------------------------------------------ This time, go for the right ship, instead of left. Then pay the ship captain 800 Gald for the trip. On the way, you meet a man onboard, and you have a party with him. After that, everyone is drunk and you have to go defeat Mie with Cless alone, 2400 HP, not that hard of a battle. After the battle, head onto shore to the village of Alvanista. 2.2.9 ALVANISTA ------------------------------------------ When you enter, just go to the Inn and rest. In the middle of the night, you will form a plot to enter the castle, you do this buy riding on Arche's broom. When you're all on the balcony, Enter, and go right past the guards, just make sure they are out of your screen before going past them. Then enter the right room. The lights will be out, and you will have to fight a rather tough boss. just keep your characters healed, and attack the enemies in the front first. DO NOT DIRECT ATTACK THE MAIN BOSS she can kill you in one hit. Boss: Syamil HP: 3400. After this, you are taken to jail, then let out. You can now explore the castle, as soon as you are able, go to the far right where the room you fought the boss is at. Go down the stairs, and you can buy 2 new spells for Arche, Thunderblade and Tractor Beam. 2.3 THE FOUR ELEMENTALS ------------------------------------------ In Alvanista you are told you need to enlist the help of the four Elementals in order to return home to the present. You already have the air elemental, Sylph, but here are the rest. 2.3.1 IFRIT, THE FIRE ELEMENTAL ------------------------------------------ This is starting to become a difficult part of the game, and there is a little cheat ahead to help. Once your out of the castle and on the world map, head to the south east and keep heading down until you see a small port. Pay the captain and your off to the dungeon desert. Here, is where you can (sort of) cheat. Collect about 50,000 Gald with fights, but make sure you don't try and directly attack the enemies with the giant teeth, they come alone but can turn you to stone. Once you have collected enough cash, head as far north as you can, until you see multiple bridges. Cross them and head north still until you see a massive town. Here, buy the Halberd type weapon for 25,000 Gald and the armor, these will increase your stats like you wont believe. After that, head back to the first town and enter Ifrit's Dungeon. Here, you must find the Sorsala ring that shoots out sparks to open doors. Go to the far right and walk down the stairs. Get all the chests and you will the ring. Equip it on Klarth and go back into the main room. Go to the far left and across the logs onto the lava. Hit the black circular switch on the wall (by pressing the effect button) and the door opens. Just get the chests in this room and head down 2 screens. This time, go up and collect the 3 chests there, and continue heading right, and loop back up through the room you got the ring in, to the stairs, back to the main room. Go up until you come upon one of those seemingly locked doors. Search it and it opens then head forward and hit all the pillars down with the ring you got then cross the bridge and you fight Ifrit. He isn't that hard, just attack him normally and let your other characters do their thing. Don't worry about healing, Mint does it for you. Once you defeat him, you get the Ifrit summon spell for Klarth and on to the next dungeon. 2.3.2 UNDINE, THE WATER ELEMENTAL ------------------------------------------ Return to Venetia and now the boat that offered you passage to Demitel's island has another option to the North Island. Take that option and go into the cave. Here you have to flip 2 switches in a certain pattern for the water to rise and fall. First, head right and hit the switch in that area, then continue on left and head down to where the water was for a few chests, and continue going down until you reach some stairs, go down and flick the switch, Go back to the original switch and push it back up again. This time head up to where that locked door was which is now opened and drained of water. Go through and head to the northern most part, and hit the farthest right switch. It drains the water to the path to hit another switch and so on until you find a hole in the ground in the top room. Make sure to save and heal up and hit the switch (left) that fills the room with water, Undine (6400HP) comes to attack. She is fairly easy, Klarth will use his Ifrit summon, which helps a lot also Cless should have the Firebird special skill by now which takes off about 1500+ off Undine. 2.3.3 NOME, THE EARTH ELEMENTAL ------------------------------------------ Nome's dungeon is located east of Totus off of a small bridge. You will need to enter a combination to get into the real part of the dungeon. You can get Nome's cave password from Alvanista in the Guild Bar, below the Pharmacy. Talk to the pianist and pay him 1000 Gald, and he will say the password. The numbers in order are: 3,1,2,4. Just continue on down the stairs until you see a little guy alone. Talk to him and say yes for him to follow you. Just keep going through the dungeon slowly, so he stays following you. Watch out for the other ones, they are powerful and attack you. Just run away from them if you get into a battle. Continue on and you'll see a group of 4. Talk to them and they run away, including the guy that was following you. Keep going through the dungeon until you come upon a save point. Here, go right and ring the alarm on the wall, causing everyone to leave their posts. Enter the top room and there you will find the boss, Nome 3400 HP. It's generally easy just wait for them to center the screen and attack when they pop up. After that, you get the Nome call spell, and Arche's spell Stonewall from the chest. 2.4 ALVANISTA REVISITED - NOW WHAT? ------------------------------------------ You have now completed the 3 dungeons. Unfortunately it is far from rejoice time yet. Next on the list is one of the biggest bitches in the game, The 10 floored Morlia Gallery. Before you go, make sure your fully prepared for this massive dungeon by getting the max of healing items, and your levels to a least 25. After that, go to Alvanista and go to the part (this is underground to the pharmacy) and talk to the bartender and the guard. Say yes to the guard, and then talk to the bartender. After this, go east of the town and around the mountain and up until you see a cave. Enter it and you are now in the Morlia Gallery. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PICKAXE FOR THE CAVE. 2.4.1 THE MORLIA GALLERY ------------------------------------------ Enter and go up. If the guard stops you, go back to the town and talk to the people. When he lets you passed, to the far left and get the chest, and hit the switch on the wall just the left of it and head to the right where the door is now opened. Go through and around until your the other floor. Head to the far left and move the statues onto the switches and go through the room for the chests. Make sure to hit the switch, a head through the far right door down stairs. Here, as you did in another dungeon, have to hit a switch to make yourself fly. It's the "on" switch and you have to make sure when going by, not to hit the off switch. You'll be able to fly through the door. Go to the right, and take the statue off the switch. Head down through the door, which will close after you walk through it. Then head to the right where a locked door was which is now opened for you to go down the stairs. Search the unlit candle twice and say yes to enter the secret passage. Here, go into the right door for a rune bottle when the lady hits the other switch. Exit, and hit the other switch to go into the left door. Head to the far left to another puzzle. This is fairly easy, the puzzle order it up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right. The go back to the right and down to the first save point. Then hit the switch and go back into the room with the puzzle. Drag the statue through the door and onto the switch and go down the floor. Now your on a level with only a small circle of light. Head to the right a screen and go up into the room. Hit the switch with the ring that shoots fire, and a door will open. Head to the left again and go down the stairs. You'll be in a room with a lot of spikes on the floor, just head to the right and you'll be in a room without spikes :) This is a spot where you lots of chests. Head down stairs to receive your save point and light the candle so that you can go through a transporter. Once it appears, go through about 5 times collecting the chests each time, and at one point will be able to continue on. Here in the next cave you have to enter a room and light each candle on each separate stick for the door to open. When you open the door, you'll need to go up and right, where you find a spot where you need the pick axe (I got really, really angry here because I didn't have one) Go through and light the torch, and head down the stairs. The rest is very straight forward. Just went you get to the room (lv.10) with the save point and 2 switches the answer to the puzzle is Up = Ifrit(1), Down = Nome(2), Left = Undine(4), Right = Sylph(3). After that go to the second transporter with the gravestone. You'll fight the summon monster, Maxwell. He has 7500 HP. That seems like a lot, but trust me, this is one easy fight. Just use Cless's Phoenix Tech, and she should be Pretty much dead. Mint will heal, so don't worry about that. After, you'll get the Maxwell call spell. Also, if you head up, you can get a whole shit load of chests, including a black onyx, which brings up your HP by 30% (I already had one for Cless, I stuck this one on Mint.) After that, go back up the stairs and head to that room to the far north that allows you to go to level 6. Then you can take the other stairs to the top floor. Welcome to freedom! 2.4.2 ALVANISTA AGAIN ------------------------------------------ Head into the castle, and into the magic room on the top floor. Talk to the red haired person in the first room, where you will witness a cut scene where you must deliver a letter to a house west of Alvanista. Knock on the door, and Klarth will speak with a lady who will instruct you to go to Olive Village. 2.4.3 THE OLIVE VILLAGE ------------------------------------------ This is the town right next to Ifrit's Cave. Go into the town and you'll talk to a man, who will instruct you to go to the 3 Oasis' around the desert. Once you talk to the 3 people at each Oasis, You will automatically end up back in the town. Then you'll see the man again, after the talk head to the Inn where the innkeeper will ask you to collect the 5 items that the One eyed monsters in the desert randomly give you, once they are collected, head back and give them to him. You will stay over night and meet the man who sent you to the past, who will give you the games quote as a reason. Now head back to Alvanista Castle. Talk to the magic lady downstairs, and she will tell you, that you need to go to Yumir Forest. 2.4.4 THE YUMIR FOREST - No Arche? ------------------------------------------ Yumir Forest is located south of Alvanista and it is where the elves are located. You head right across the bridge, head south and take a left until you see a small island covered in trees. Enter and talk to you guard, who says you cannot go through. Head back to the castle and talk to the same person again. Go to the Inn and stay the night, go back and to him. He gives you the medal to enter the forest. This is pretty straight forward, just head upward and you will come to a split path. To the right, you get a couple chests, to the left is the way to the Elf Village where on this path, you can also get a lot of things to boost strength items called "Lavender". Use rune bottles on them to get Lavender, which gives you 2 strength instead of one. After that head up into the elf town where you meet Brambard who joins you as an NPC to go into the forest maze. 2.4.5 THE TREANT'S FOREST ------------------------------------------ This place is basically what you call a maze. Keep going as far right as you can until you need to go down or up. Generally, the "cats" are the path of where you need to go, so if your near some, your on the right track. Lots of goodies in here, so you may want to search around. At the end you'll see a save point and one of the many magic tablets you have seen throughout the game. After you get the two rings, Head back out and you'll meet up with Arche again, who got caught snooping around. Unfortunately, you're no longer allowed to enter the elf village. 2.4.6 THE MUSIC TOWER AND LUNA ------------------------------------------ This is located below the space you got those weapons from way back in the desert (north of the desert of Ifrit's Cave) But before you go here, make sure to go into the town and meet up with the fairy. She is needed to complete the tower. This is one weird tower, you have to change the background music to open the door to go up. Floor Music Where to Find it 2nd Dungeon Music (playing when you get there) 3rd Arche's Theme (down, left) 4th Mystic Forest (left, down) 5th Dungeon Music (down, far right) 6th Open Fire Theme (right, down) After you get the Luna call spell for Klarth, and the Ray spell for Arche. Now just go through all those doors and head back to the town. ------------------------------------------ 2.5 THE CITY OF MID GALDS ------------------------------------------ This is a very long and odd part of the story of the game. Edward Disappears when a boy is attacked and you have the fight a huge battle yourself. First head to the castle where the guards will let you in. You have a meeting and you head back to where you first met Arche, to discover why she was an orphan. After this long scene, (flashbacks people!) Basically you get chances to buy stuff, but don't bother resting since you should be fully healed. After the long scene of Edward disappearing enter the castle and more talking begins. Your asked to leave the room while they talk to Klarth, just leave for a second and then try to go back in. You'll then have a big battle where you have to either run or fight as you go through the plains. After a while, you'll be asked if you wish to rest. I would say yes. :D Then the day changes again. Eventually, if you go up and right far enough you come to the boss, who is a giant dragon. This is a fairly easy battle he only has 5000 HP, and 2 monsters with him, should be no problem. You'll arrive back at the castle where you talk to the king to receive 10,000G Then you get to see a short scene where the flying enemies come to attack. This part seems really odd to me, Cless gets sucked into a black portal, where you get the magical Pegasus. This part isn't too difficult: you fly into the air (It's just you and Arche, she has her broom) and fight the enemies. Cless cannot use special attacks since he is on the Pegasus. You then arrive at the boss, who is a piece of cake. Have Arche stay back, and cast magic while Cless does the run and jump attack. After the battle, you get the very powerful Indignation spell for Arche. Now you return to town and equip Cless again since he has nothing on. The Pegasus is returned, and you must now face Dhaos. 2.5.1 DHAOS' CASLTE ------------------------------------------ This is a pretty massive dungeon with pretty hard enemies. It can be reached by going through the snowfield. Once you enter, you can loop around upward to get a Fire and Aqua cloak, but your main target is to go right. This isn't a difficult dungeon, but the enemies can be. You must remember to keep the spear, and dot equip any of the swords, since some of the enemies are absorbing magic. Whenever you reach a puzzle with 4 switches, the combo is up, down, left, right, down, up. At one point, you have to run across the dinning room and hit the switches at the exact same time as Arche does. Also, when you first get to the switch where you have to open the door, leave Klarth on, you get him back later. At one point, you will need to go up stairs and push the statue down the hole. Once you proceed upward, you must get the mirror on the top floor from the boss. Once that happens, go all the way back down, collect your part member on the way and go back to the mirrors where you saw a demon in the reflection and you'll fight another one of those mini bosses, and you'll go through the mirror. There is 3 in total, 1 is a spell for Arche, Distortion, the other 2 are a room of chests, and the way to the key. Through the one with the key, get the chests at the right, and search each statue and say yes. You'll find a mental ring and then keep heading right until you get to that same puzzle again. (Solution: Up, down, left, right, down, up) where if you go outside that door, you find the Gold Key. This allows you to access all the locked doors you couldn't open before. Go back to the top floor, but instead of using Klarth to stay behind, leave Arche. When you see a locked door on the right (2 floors up I think), and when you see the pit again, Arche will fly up and rejoin you. After that, go back to the top floor where there was a door and a save point. You can now open the door and fight *another* mini boss. After that, the door to Dhaos is there. The main strategy for him is, either not kill the little Dark Lords, and use spells, or kill them, and have Cless attack Dhaos, and while he's busy cast Indignation, which takes an awful lot off Dhaos. After the battle, he vanishes, and you see a small scene where your lead to that woman's house. 2.5.2 THE TOTUS TREE AND THE UNICORN ------------------------------------------ Head back to the first town of Totus, and go back into the forest where you tried to heal the tree. Mint attempts to, and does a good job but it doesn't seem to work. Head out and go to the town of Venetia, where you should sleep at the Inn to see one of Mint's dreams. Then head back to the snowfield where you went to Dhaos' castle, but instead of going up and right, go up and left. You'll then be on the world map, right next to the Unicorns forest. Mint and Arche go in alone to find the unicorn, the basic route is right and up, when you reach it, Arche will leave and Mint will find the unicorn, but will be attacked by 3 enemies. Cless and Klarth must run and attack the enemies, really easy. After the fight, Mint gets the Unicorn Staff, and heals the tree finally. After this, its time to enter the future... 2.5.3 THE ABYSS OF THOR ------------------------------------------ This is the last place you shall visit in the past. First, go into the house that is closest to you and search the shinny stone on the counter. It is actually a key to the door to the south east. Once you enter the door, you'll see a row of doors and chests, on the bottom with the row of chests, you must find the key to the door which randomly changes. The 2 doors you want hold Arche's God Breath spell, and the way to the future. Just randomly find it, and then walk up to the giant warp panel where you talk to the giant head, it can heal you or take you to the present, best to heal and save because the new and improved Dhaos is here... Just warp there and you'll fight him. He's not as easy as he was, he has 65,000 HP which takes a long time to wear down, Indignation hurts him, but not as much. Just have Cless attack him as a distraction, and have Klarth and Arche attack him with Indignation and Luna. After the battle, it looks as if the game is over, but you still have to visit the future. A man from the future comes and asks you to come, and your again transported. 2.6 FIFTY YEARS IN THE FUTURE ------------------------------------------ Welcome to the future. This is the last time period you will visit, Totus/Miguel Village You land in the Totus of the Future, which has been renamed Miguel after your father. You should stop by the weapon shop and buy some items like the sword for Cless, a bow for Chester, and some armor. If you missed the Eruption spell, as I did, Talk to the lady next to the counter, She gives it to Arche. After your done, you can get a food bag from one of the people outside, and get a skill from the swordsman's house also another skill in the dresser of the sick mans house. Once your finished, Head through the cliffs to Euclid. 2.6.1 EUCLID'S FUTURE CASTLE ------------------------------------------ Here there isn't much to do, talk to the king and get the money. If you want to try your luck, head into the coliseum, otherwise just head out to Venetia to meet the man that brought you to the future, Harrison. 2.7 VENETIA AND THE WINGS ------------------------------------------ Harrison is on one of the boats to the right, when you talk to him he takes you to see the robotic wings, which allow you to fly. Unfortunately they are not done yet and you are told to go to Volt's cave. 2.7.1 VOLT'S CAVE ------------------------------------------ Volt's cave is located past the house, just southwest of Miguel. All I can say is make sure you have the jet boots, you'll see why later. You will have to use the Sorsala ring, so that you can turn the electricity on. At one point, you'll see that the door only half opens. Go down into the little room and hit the switch, at first glance, it appears you can't shoot the rod to make it turn on, but hit the right edge, and the full door will open. The next tricky part is a combination of 3 of the electric stations. First as you enter, go right and turn the electricity generator on. Use the sprinting boots (hold B) and rush through the right door. Go up to the room and hit the switch, causing a part of the wall to be taken away. Exit, and go back to the first generator. Now the left side of the cavern is accessible. Hit the switch and run like hell. You REALLY need to run fast to get through that door, I had a friend who sat there for over an hour, and still couldn't get through. Please don't mail me about it. So anyway, once your through the door, you come upon a save point and a row of 3 generators. Head to the far right one and hit it a few times with the ring, then quickly move onto the next one, hit it a few times and move onto the last one. Hit IT a few times, then run through the door, you should be outside. Head up and you'll see the boss, Volt. He is fairly easy, except you can't use Arche's Indignation, as it will heal the volt boss. Use Maxwell for a good effect, rapidly. Once he is beaten, he become one of Klarth's call spells. He is very much like Indignation, except sometimes more powerful. Walk down, and Arche will fly over and grab the chests for you. Now take the warp spot on the far right of the room, and get to Euclid. 2.7.2 THE HEROES TAKE TO THE SKY ------------------------------------------ Back in Euclid, go back into the house where you saw the not quite finished wings. Now they are finished, and Volt charges them and Arche's broom up for flight. This is one great moment, so make sure you enjoy it. Walk outside and press A. You will be able to fly all over the world map which is very useful. Here are some optional things you might want to do now: If you go to the snowy island that is still in daylight. You can get some very powerful weapons for Cless and Chester in Freezekill, the light snow town. There is a sword that looks like Darth Vader's light saber, a long red blade which should bring Cless' attack power up to over 1000. Chester can get boosted up to 1400 ATK power. Also, armor here is pretty strong, make sure to get that. After your done exploring head to Alvanista. For other good armor, head to a very small island south of Olive Village. Here you can also buy the SNES Pad. See Cless' section in the FAQ for more information on this. 2.8 ODIN AND FENRIR'S POWERS ------------------------------------------ Go up to the castle, where Harrison is waiting for you. He takes you to meet the magician from the past's descendent, who instructs you to go to the 2 towers, Ice and Fire (Fenrir and Odin). But before you go here I HIGHLY suggest that you gain levels like mad. A good spot is the Yumir and Treant's Forests, as they have a lot of enemies with lots of experience to give, although you can't bring Arche in, it also gives Chester a chance to gain a lot of levels. Also, when you reach the Elven Village, if you talk to the Weapon shop keeper, he will make the very powerful Elven Bow for a price. Say yes, then head to the Inn, here you can get the Star Broom, which is a very powerful weapon for Arche. Once you feel you're prepared, (I'd say about Lvl. 60-65) head to the Fire Tower first. 2.8.1 THE FIRE TOWER ------------------------------------------ Here in the Fire Tower, just northeast of the Olive Village, the enemies are all healed by fire, so turn all your fire spells off. To go up to get the Exploder spell, hit the switch on the left and the one on the right and head up that center door. The left-hand staircase leads up to the rest of the tower. You can either go all the way up, or just get the Explode spell for Arche, which is what I did first. Get the spell and then head out. Go back to the Freezekill, and head up to the top of the town, where the Temple of Fenrir is. 2.8.2 THE ICE CAVE ------------------------------------------ This place can be pretty easy except some of the enemies are not effected by Cless's weapons, so just use the Phoenix Attack and that should be ok. When you first enter, hit the switch with the Sorsala ring, so its unfrozen, and search it until it asks to turn it on. After you throw the switch head right. The floor down is a room of torches, in which ALL of them must be lit to continue on down to the next floor. Once you get to the room with the giant pit, hit the statue with the Sorsala ring and drag it over to the crack on the right and cover it. Then light up the torches, and head down the stairs. The Maze can be confusing, so here is a map, you can decide which treasures you want to Get: EXIT X 1 / / / 2----X----X----X----3 / / / X----X----4----X----X / / / 5----6----X----X----Previous Cave Area / / / 7----X----X----8----X / / / X 9 X 1- Cheap Ass Armor 2- Shield Ring 3- Book for Klarth (Pretty Good) 4- Ice Cloak 5- Blue Hood 6- Black Onyx 7- Book for Arche (Tidal Wave Spell) 8- Charm Bottle 9- Gold Ring The next floor is pretty general but you have to turn on the switch to the right, then head right and then go down the stairs and hit a yellow circle in a room. This freezes the nearby water. Walk across the water and follow the trail up. Notice you have looped around where you were before. Then hit the switch you had hit before (This unfreezes the water and re-drains it back to the area you drained it from before and re-freezes it). Head to the right and walk across the ice, following the trail up. Here you can finally save before the boss. Fangbeast is a real bitch, like the green ogres, Cless' weapons dot hurt him at all. The best strategy is to get in as many Phoenix techs in as you can, and use Maxwell and Explode constantly, if you're lucky, you'll beat him with his 30,000 HP. Your reward for all this is the powerful Ice Sword, which will become VERY useful in the Fire Tower. Now take a trip down memory lane as you exit the cave looking at all the fun times you had with these bitch-ass puzzles. Remember to Equip the ice sword. 2.8.3 THE FIRE TOWER REVISITED ------------------------------------------ This is pretty simple. Take the right hand door as you enter, and work your way up to the top. You'll still be affected by the fire, so make sure your always healed. When you see the statues on the special colored tiles, move them off and the doors will open. On the one with the 2 switches, just pull them onto the switches...and watch your health! Once you get to the boss, you'll have to throw everything you've got. Arche's Tidal Wave, Klarth using Undine constantly, and have Cless use Energy Sword. Shouldn't take too long to kick it's ass. After that, you get the Fire Sword and the fire tech for Cless. You're finally done. Yay! 2.8.4 ORIGIN AND THE ETERNAL SWORD ------------------------------------------ Here, you must go find Origin, the summon monster. You have to go all the way back to the Elf Village, and into Treant's Forest where you first fought that boss in the past. (If you don't remember, you just head up and right until you hit the pond) Once you arrive, close your eyes and sit around for about 2 minutes. This is a very, very, very easy battle... Just hit it with your powerful stuff, and its dead. After the battle, you get your Fire and Ice Swords combined, to form the Eternal Sword. Also, you get the Energy Sword techs that are VERY useful. After this scene, you'll be in the castle. After a long chat, your free to try out your new stuff. 3. THE OPTIONAL QUESTS ------------------------------------------ As Dhaos is one tough boss, you may want to do some of these sub-quests before you try and tackle him. APPENDIX A. ICE WALL SPELL ------------------------------------------ Go back to Undine's Dungeon and head to where Undine was fought. There is a chest there that has the Ice Wall spell for Arche. Kind of weak, but good for fire monsters. **NOTE** You can get this before the fire tower, so it might help you. APPENDIX B. DEATH CLOUDS SPELL ------------------------------------------ Here, go back to Demitel's Castle, and downstairs to the room you fought him in. On the circle in the middle of the room, you will find the Death Cloud spell for Arche, that is a mild death spell. APPENDIX C. ASGA SUMMON ------------------------------------------ This call spell for Klarth can be obtained by going back to the Abyss of Thor. If you cannot find it, like me head into the ocean directly between the 2 Ice islands, and the mainland. There is a picture of the place on the map on my webpage. Anyway, Once you get inside, go talk to the giant head again and pick the 3rd choice. The Asga call spell has been learned, and is quite powerful APPENDIX D. THE NINJA TOWN ------------------------------------------ ToP has a hidden town in the back of Treant's Forest. To find it you must talk to the man on the platform to the right of the southern entrance to Alvanista. After you do, return to the Treant's Forest, and head: Up, Up, Up, Left, Down, Left, Up, Up, Up. There will be a small child there, who introduces herself as Suzu. She will warp you to the Ninja Town. Here, you can receive the Murasame, (great if you haven't got the Eternal Sword yet) and a hilarious scene between the characters. The town's mayor (also Suzu's Grandfather) explains that Dhaos has been hypnotizing the Ninja, including Suzu's parents, who are rumored to be somewhere near Euclid. There will be more on this later. There is also A B.C. Rod in the nearby woods to the left for Mint, and to the right of the town there is the Flame Tornado spell for Arche. I'd recommend coming here as soon as you can after getting the wings, as the spells and weapons available here are more powerful than the others in this world. After you are done here, leave and head to the coliseum. If you manage to beat all the enemies up to the boss, you can fight the 2 ninja's that were missing which are Suzu's parents... After this scene, (I'm not ruining it) head back to the Ninja village and talk to Suzu's grandfather. He gives you an advanced version of the Flurry hit. APPENDIX E. GRAHAM'S TREASURE HUNT ------------------------------------------ After Dhaos' Castle shows up (See Section 4.), you can talk to a man in Freezekill's item shop,(Graham) and he will give you letter and show all small islands contain treasure left there by his ancestor, Alfred. Don't forget to come back to the man after you have found Rosania Dress (look in the special item). Many of the items on the Draga Item List (See Appendix H) can only be found this way, including some great armor, like the H Gauntlet and the B Shield. I would recommend doing this before visiting the dungeon, as there is a Lucky Blade that is more powerful than the Eternal Sword available in one of the treasure areas, of which there are 22: 2 in North Euclid: South of Venetia on the East coast, 2nd strip of beach ???? -Whale Meat, Reverse Doll -Whale Meat, Moon Crystal 1 on Long Island: ???? -Silver Cape 4 in South Euclid: Southwest of Miguel, small inlet cut off by small mountain range Small inlet Southeast of Miguel, a little south from the house Island just Northeast of Nome's Cavern, on the Grass Field Same island, eastern inlet -Green Torch*, Pickaxe, Whale Meat, Black Onyx, Elixir, B-Line Shield* -Reverse Doll -Elixir, Dark Shield, Mental Ring -Protect Ring, Whale Meat 2 on the Dark Island: Large Grass Field Island just West of the Dark Island (Still dark there) The Northern tip of the island, in the light on the grass field -Whale Meat, Resist Ring -Blue Candle*, Safira (10% more Gold and EXP if equipped) 1 on Fenrir's Island: South of Freeze kill, follow island trail to 2nd Grass/Beach spot -Whale Meat, Mental Ring, H-Gauntlet 3 East of Yumir Forest: The southern little tag of the continent cut off by mountains In the eastern bay, a small circular island in just off shore On the tag of beach just north of the mountain range -Protect Ring -The Rosaina Dress** (Appears in Rare Items Menu) -Silver Mattock* 2 to Alvanista's Northeast: Small island just off the elongated peninsula North of Alvanista From that island, a forest area just East and slightly South -Whale Meat, Silver Cape, Resist Ring -?SWORD (Central Hard) 1 East of Freland: Small enclosed inlet just East of Sylph's Mountain -Whale Meat, 2 Elixers, Drum Set 1 West of Freland: Large Island directly to the west of where the Burnt Town used to be -Pot, Emerald Ring, Whale Meat 1 far to the east of Mid Galds: ???? -9 Brown Bottle Achohols 4 North of Mid Galds: North of the Unicorn's Forest , the 2nd strip of beach Snowfield enclosed in mountains north of the large snowfield The island slightly northwest of where Dhaos' Castle used to be Round Inlet just south of the Bridge to where Dhaos' Castle used to be -Red Lantern*, R-Line Shield*, Elven Boots, ?SWORD (Duel Sword), Cat's Eye, Elixir -3 Whale Meats -Emerald Ring, ?SWORD (Lucky Blade), NG -Elixir, Gold Helm*, S-Flag *- Needed for Draga Mania Status **- Give back to Graham APPENDIX F. THE COLISEUM ------------------------------------------ This can be kind of fun and interesting, you win a lot of different things, the first time I went in, I won an elixir and it keeps getting better. You fight 8 enemies, then the boss which is always a damn green dragon. He is fairly easy, just keep attacking him with your strongest abilities. There are some interesting items to get here, just another fun "mini game" 1st. Combo Technique for Cless 2nd. Assorted Healing Items 3rd. Locket Set 4th. Set of Meats 5th. Set of Lavender Items 6th. Bottle set 7th. Magical item set 8th. Star item set for magician 9th. Star item set for fighter 10th. Gummy set After the 10th fight you will always receive a Gummy set APPENDIX G. THE MORLIA GALLERY REVISITED ------------------------------------------ Yes, you can go deeper into the evil, evil dungeon. I have not got deeper myself, but there are some very powerful things in it. They include: Floor 18 Chameleon Summon in the gaseous sub-room (requires emerald ring, this is a powerful death spell)Black Hole Spell door out of the left wall (a single enemy death spell) Floor 19 Bahamut's Tail Axe on the suspension bridge area (second best weapon) Gold Armor in the flashing grid room (this armor absorbs elemental damage and is the best armor rating in the game) Combo Counter in a room off to the left of the flashing grid room (this item counts how many combos you have learned) Floor 22 Gremlin Lair Summon in the gaseous room down from the main room (requires the sapphire ring the most powerful damage call spell) Extinction Spell in the Treasure Room north of the Wyvern (the most powerful death spell in the game)Excalibur Sword in the Treasure Room north of the Wyvern (the most powerful death spell in the game) Cless' Combo Tech: Lightning Attack + Double Kick Swing in the Treasure room north of the Wyvern) Morlia Orb in the Treasure Room north of the Wyvern (allows you to set the encounter rate to normal, low (holy bottle) or high (black bottle) APPENDIX H. CLESS' STATUS/JOB ------------------------------------------ Cless' status portrait has the capacity to hold up to eight stars, indicating status quests and accomplishments. What they are good for, I have no idea. Here are the rundowns of them: - when you have mastered the combo from the coliseum (see below), you get it from Tristan (the old man from the first town Totus) at Dhaos's cave. - reached Level 40 and have Mastered all short and long skills - reached Level 99 and have mastered all combos. A Soldier in Alvanista's Future Castle can bestow many stars upon you for various completed tasks. - job "Soldier" if you have learn 1st combo - job "????" Level 20 - job "????" Level 40 - job "Sword Master" Level 40, and have mastered 100% Short and Long skill(save the skills you get from Ice Cave & Fire tower). - job "Fencer" Learn all Combos - job "Last Fencer" Level 99 and have all Combos. A Soldier in Euclid's Future Castle can bestow many stars upon you for various completed tasks. - You get status "Combo Master" - job "Berserker" from same above if you have battle 1000 times. - job "Champion" from same above if you have finished coliseum 10 times. - job "Draga Mania" from same above if you have collected all Draga items. Here is the Draga Item List: Golden Helm - * Gold Armor - Morlia Gallery floor 19 Jet boots - You can buy it from any store BC Rod - from Treant's Forest east of Ninja village Excalibur - Morlia Gallery floor 22 R line shield - * B line shield - * H gauntlet - * Silver Mattock - *, win race at Alvanista's future with the boy Blue Candle - * Green Torch - * Red Lantern - * *= can only be found on Graham's Treasure Hunt, see Appendix E -Job "Combo Master" if get SNES Pad and Combo Counter 4. THE FINAL BATTLE ------------------------------------------ Head to the island of snow where its always dark. Head to the Inn for a giant cut scene where you see the warriors prepare for the final battle. After, head to the Bar/Tavern and talk to one of Soldiers. He gives you the Dedis Emblem (it looks like a Gold Leaf), which is necessary to complete Dhaos' Castle (well, almost). Then head out of Ali to the cave on the western side of Ali. The Guard will let you pass and then continue on to the end of the cliff. The castle appears when Cless uses the Eternal Sword to transport you onto the castle's platform. I've broken the castle into the nine main sections. I highly recommend you visit the Morlia Gallery before this, as the Morlia Orb's permanent Holy Bottle effect is a total bonus in this encounter-ridden dungeon. SECTION I. THE ENTRANCE ------------------------------------------ It was really nice of Dhaos to leave you a save point right at the beginning. Go up and there will be a big eye monster waiting for you. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a call spell, it's just one of Dhaos' henchmen, you'll be killing several of his brothers and cousins later in the dungeon. To your left and down is the dungeon area, prepare to get really familiar with this area. Up on the left is some treasure, and up on the right is some more treasure (get that Gaia armor on Chester, or on Cless if you didn't get the Gold armor from Morlia). Then Up a bit further is a switch. Pull it and go back to where you fought the Roameye and head to the right. That door will now be open and you can continue to section II. (Not all the sections are this easy; don't worry.) SECTION II. THE SOLID WALL? ------------------------------------------ As you come up the stairs, keep going up through those two doors, and there'll be a little room where you can find Arche's spell Meteor Storm. Finally, a spell that works. It's comparable to Final Fantasy's Meteo, doing between 3000- 6000 damage a pop. I advise you to come get this spell as soon as you can, as it's useful on the optional quests, especially the Morlia Gallery's bosses. Ok, now go to the left and down, and throw the switch through the left hand door, and grab that treasure down there. Go back to the big room and now you can enter to the enclosed staircase room from the right hand side (the wall is only holographic now) and head on up. Also in the big room is a door in the upper left hand corner that leads to a room with a tablet. SECTION III. THE DEDIS EMBLEMS ------------------------------------------ You need five, count 'em FIVE Dedis Emblems at this point. When you step on the symbol, anyone who is NOT wearing a Dedis Emblem will be transported to the Dungeon area back in Section I., and you'll have to go back and pick them up. Equip the Dedis Emblem that the soldier in Ali (the Dark Snow town) on Cless, then step on the symbol. After everyone else has disappeared, head to the right. There are treasure rooms to in the door on the right, and two more if you head town, bringing your Dedis Emblem count to Four. All the Emblem's chests are guarded by ninjas, so if you are comfortable taking them out with Cless alone, go for it, otherwise grab one and return to the Dungeon and pick up a party member. But if you can't take out a ninja with Cless alone, don't bother trying to get to Dhaos. Anyhow, head up from the room to the right of the Emblem to find another cross area. Go up for the last Dedis Emblem. Now that you have all your party members equipped with a Dedis Emblem (yes, even whoever you aren't using in the combat party), go back to the Symbol and head left. There is a passage out the left of this room that lets you leave this stinkin' area. Hey, you can even remove those useless Dedis Emblems from everyone and re-equip useful relics. SECTION IV. THE DOOR SWITCH ------------------------------------------ This is probably one of the easier sections to deal with if you know what you're doing. After you save your game on the save point, head to the left, through the passage, then down, then left again to a big crystal looking room. There's another eye, except this one has a brother and isn't nearly as friendly as the Roameye was. Kill them both and throw the switch. There's a lot of treasure in this area, but nothing that's really worth getting, mostly life potions and various gels, Dragon Steak food and some other crud. Head out of the crystal room then up twice. There'll be a door that leads downward, go through it and start heading right. When you reach the last door, go up through it and it'll take you to a door that looks like one form the last time you were in Dhaos' Castle, except now it's purple. Regardless, head through the door and onto the next puzzle. SECTION V. THE FOOR SWITCHES ------------------------------------------ Yay! Another save point. Use it and keep on going up past the stone tablet. don't bother going in any doors (the switches are ineffective now), just keep following the main hallway all the way to the end. The last switch will activate all the others, then pop into each door (the first two after you hit the master switch are treasure rooms, and contain no switches though), and hit the switch. When you return to the room with the stone tablet and the save point, re-save your game and hit the last switch, then go through the door to section VI. SECTION VI. MORE HOLOGRAPHIC WALLS ------------------------------------------ Going up in this area will take you to a mirror. Don't use it! Using it will bring you back to the hallway at the end of section IV. Instead, head to the right, and you'll go through the wall again. Part of the way through this secret passage, you can head up for some lavender. If your characters don't have 9999 HP and 999 TP, this is your last chance to power up before Dhaos, so use those rune bottles! Continue to the right until you reach a small, empty room, then head up. Once the door is in sight, you can head to the left for six more treasure chests, many of which contain lavender items. Then go through the door, you're almost there! SECTION VII. JUST KEEP GOING! ------------------------------------------ This sections is a joke compared to what you've been through. Take the door on the right for some quick treasure if you want, then take the door on the left to keep going. Head up the hallway, and take the left hand way. (The right hand way leads to a switch room that makes mirror appear which just takes you back to the beginning of the section.) There are two treasure rooms on the upper side, and heading down will lead you to the beginning of the castle's most tedious section. SECTION VIII. THE TOWER ------------------------------------------ First, save your game. The tower is just a bunch of passageways, nothing tricky, but the battles can get tedious. Notice you are getting higher and higher in the castle above the earth. Just keep going until you reach another save point. SECTION IX. DHAOS ------------------------------------------ Dhaos is waiting for you, and you engage in the battle. He has two forms you must defeat, the first of which is just a re-colored, more vicious version of his old self. Use the same tricks on him as before, just keep canceling those nasty spells. After he dies and changes form, he is one of the hardest enemies you will ever face. He can hit you with the balls he shoots from his arm anywhere on the screen, and he has a nasty little spell that does 2000-4000 damage. What's worse is he can make himself invulnerable at any given time (though he won't attack you at this time, either, all he can do is push you away with his arm). You'll know he does this because the screen will be tinted dark blue. Just keep hitting him when it's light, and try not to waste TP. This battle took me an hour. My recommendation: Equip Cless with the Flurry Hit and the Power Slice in Short range, and the Ground Thunder + Tiger Teeth and Energy Sword + Energy Wave attacks for long range. Turn off all spells on Klarth and Arche except Gremlin Lair and Meteor Shower (though by this far in the game, you should really be controlling them manually all the time and having them set to inactive). The first battle can actually be easier with Chester instead of Arche, but he becomes pretty useless in the second battle with Dhaos. Use the Ground Thunder + Tiger Teeth and Power Slice to take the arm out pretty quick, just try not to have your techniques cancelled by those balls he shoots out. Once the arm is gone, he'll be pulling that invulnerability move a LOT, so use that time for healing and regenerating of TP. Then you've just got to get the timing down on Arche and Klarth's spells. He'll eventually die, and then you get to watch the ending. ***SPOILER ALERT*** However, I did find a way to "Cheat" on Dhaos' second form. Read on only if you want a spoiler for the last boss, or are so frustrated with this guy for mutilating you and you just want to see the ending. Get behind him. If you face the left, and the arm hits you, you'll be pushed behind it. Then just start wailing on him, when he makes the screen go dark, the others who were not killed trying to join you before will walk right through the arm and sit there. Dhaos cannot hit you in the position, and he will rarely make himself invulnerable. Just hit him and keep casting Meteor Shower and Gremlin Lair, and he'll eventually die. 5. UNSOLVED MYSTERIES: ------------------------------------------ There's a house in the elf town in the southeast corner, is there a way to open it? Does it have anything to do with Arche being half elf and not being allowed in the village? (When you are on your way to Origin, you can talk to Brambard in the inn, and he talks about how everyone s debating over whether to let half elves in the village or not, and that they have some special power that no human or elf has. ------------------------------------------ Do not think that this is the last update to this walkthrough!
