Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords takes place five years after the original. The Jedi Order has dissolved, and the Sith, taking advantage of their weakness, moved methodically across the cosmos in hopes of destroying all who could stop them. With the future bleak, one Jedi Knight, exiled by the Jedi Order a few years prior, is the sole hope for the Old Republic. Though they have lost connection with the Force, it is upto them to save a dying race, the Jedi.

The lightsaber plays a huge role in the life of a Jedi in KoToR2 as not only is it an instrument of peace, but also an extension of the Jedi themselves. Customibility of lightsabers was present in the original Knights of the Old Republic, though this feature has been given a huge facelift.

Crystals are used for the customization process and each give the lightsaber different capabilities and even different colors. Lightsabers themselves can be upgraded through new power cells, emitters, and lenses. These upgrades can be found throughout the game, however, these can be created through the use of skills as well. There are over 60 lightsaber upgrades, creating over ten million lightsaber possibilities.

Crystals, themselves, can be found in many places and not just obtained after defeating enemies on the battlefield. Keeping a close eye on the surrounding areas would be well advised for a player whom is searching for customization crystals for their lightsaber.

The ability to influence team members is a new feature that gives the player a control over how other characters react to you and to other characters in the game. Depending on the player's influence, a certain character might follow you without hesitation; a lack of said influence might cause them to turn against you. Players must figure out what each character expects out of people and use that either to exploit them for good or evil. Choosing dialogue that will accordingly cause a character to trust the player will be one of the many challenges that you face in the game. Not every conversation will cause a players influence to sway, but rather this happens during key moments. The defining factor in all of this is that the player won't know when this key moment is and therefore will need to always choose their words or actions carefully.

With the force at the players fingertips and a lightsaber around every possible corner, the galaxy could very well be facing it's toughest opponent yet. Will the power of darkness consume the very being of the player's soul or will the brightness of the light burst forth into every orifice of the cosmos? Every choice becomes a countdown to destruction in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.
