Every character has a 3-hit combo he/she/it can perform. To do so, you have to time your button presses so that you press the attack button right after the previous attack finishes. Generally, the best combo to use is two attacks followed by a heavy attack. If you are using a magic-based character with weak attacks, you probably don't want to run around attacking monsters up in their face. You should stay back and hit with your techniques. Stock up on HP and TP restoring items and make as many trips back to the item stores as you need to finish a quest. Fighters should also use magic on occasion, such as healing magic or magic to increase their attack or defense power. Androids cannot use techniques so they have to rely solely on items for curing. You can tell whether or not you'll be able to hit an opponent because a target marker will appear on the opponent. If it is a red target, you should attack. If it is blue, you can hit the opponent with your B button technique. That of course is assuming you don't alter the default way of setting up your attacks. -----MAGs--------------------------------------- Your MAG is your buddy. He floats around behind you when you are questing. You have to take care of your MAG by feeding it. Each MAG has a certain item that it likes to eat. Experiment with items and see which boost attributes the most. Each feeding session lets you give it 3 different items. You can feed it roughly every 10 minutes or so while questing, not just idling. Also, once your MAG gets to a high enough level, you will get the Photon Blast, which will do nice damage to everything near you. You charge this up by taking damage from enemies. The meter at the top will tell you how charged up your MAG is. -----Opening Doors------------------------------ There are a few ways to open paths and doors during questing... 1. Defeat all enemies. In some rooms, you will have to kill all of the enemies that pop up in order to proceed. 2. Hit the switch. If there is a pillar with a symbol on it that matches a nearby door, hit the pillar to unlock the door. 3. Consoles. Consoles look kinda like computer consoles and they are used to turn off the barriers in front of boxes of items. -----Playing Online----------------------------- Until the game comes out in the US, there is little I can do to help you here. I really hope I'll be able to use my current character when it comes out in the US... ************************************************ Creating a Character ************************************************ First you choose the class of your character. -HUmar = Human + Human Good in close-range combat. Can do some recovery and attack techniques. Balanced growth potential. -HUnewearl = Human + Newman Strong technique attack with good balance between technique usage and close-range combat. -HUcast = Hunter + Android Strongest attack power, highest HP level. Uses multiple weapons but no techniques. -RAmar = Ranger + Human Proficient with guns. Can do some recovery and attack techniques. Balanced growth potential. -RAcast = Ranger + Android Can use all guns but no techniques. Attacking power is higher than RAcaseal. -RAcaseal = Ranger + Android Can use all guns but no techniques. Evasive power is higher than RAcast. -FOmarl = Force + Human Proficient with techniques and has the most balanced growth potential of all the Forces. -FOnewm = Force + Newman Highest TP level. Can use all techniques. Potential to become a leader in battle. -FOnewearl = Force + Newman TP/technique usage equal to Fomarl. Defense is higher but HP is lower. Weaker in close-range combat. After choosing your type, you enter the Character Creation screen where you can customize all of the following features: -Face -Hair -Costume -Skin Color -Proportion -Character Name You are then assigned a section based upon your name. Rather than wasting my time here explaining it to you, there's a FAQ about it available at GameFAQs. This basically determines what type of Tekker you will get. ************************************************ Menu ************************************************ -Item Pack: Deals with inventory... -Equip: Equip weapons and armor. -Items: Use or drop items. -MAG: Feed and care for your MAG. -Area Map: View the map of your current area during a quest. -Quest Board: See the items you have during a quest. -Customize: Set the buttons on your action menu. -Techniques: View your techniques... -Simple Attack -Foie: TP 4, A fire technique. You must do a certain number of quests before the next set of quests appear. You can play the quests in any order you choose. I personally suggest that you do "Battle Training" first though. -----Magnitude of Metal------------------------- "A valuable commodity on Ragol was lost?!" Client: Garon, trader Quest: Retrieve items that were stolen on a trip back from Ragol. Reward: 500 Meseta Wander around through the forest until you find an android named Elenor Camuel. She will give you info on how the MAG system works as you play through the rest of the stage. After finding her, wander further until you find the MAG to finish the quest. -----Claiming a Stake--------------------------- "Find and bring back a greedy landlord!" Client: Racton's son Quest: My father, Racton, has gone to claim land on Ragol. Find him. Reward: 700 Meseta You'll find Ragol in the big area in the center of the map. He'll then want you to find three pods of his before he'll leave with you. The screen you are on has three exits, and each one leads to one of the three pods. The top right exit leads to a pod and a dead end, the top left exit has a pod in the very next room, and the last one is at the beginning, which is easily accessible from the bottom exit to the room. -----Battle Training---------------------------- "Find a hunter who is working down on Ragol." Client: Zidd Quest: Please find and bring back a hunter here. He went down to Ragol for a quest. Reward: 500 Meseta After your briefing, go and talk to the android by the guild entrance. His name is Kireek. He's on level 36 compared to your pansy little level and thus will make for an excellent first guide. After talking to him, talk to the other guy again. Then go to the door to the right of the Guild (between the two guards) to go to Forest 1. As you play through this section, Kireek will give you many helpful pointers on how to play the game in general. If you are having problems with the monsters, let Kireek kill them but try to get in a hit before he does so you get a share of the experience. Deep in the forest you will find the hunter and a data disc. Pick up the data disc then talk to the hunter then Kireek to end the quest. [You must finish the above quests before the following ones appear...] -----Journalistic Pursuit------------------------ "A journalist went to go down to Ragol." Client: Nol, Journalist Quest: It's my duty to report what's on Ragol. Take me with you. Reward: 1200 Meseta In this quest, you lead Nol Rinale to search for the truth behind the problems of Pioneer 1. She puts on a covert top secret disguise and follows you around. Head to Forest 2 and then you need to find the room with the weather device. Nol will stop and talk about it when you get there. Then you need to flip a switch in the next room and you will be able to reach the computer terminal. Nol will find rather unpleasant results and decide that she no longer wishes to pursue her "truth" any longer for fear of creating public outcry. -----The Fake in Yellow------------------------- "What is the biologist on Ragol doing?" Client: Guls's Assistant Quest: Dr. Guls, a biologist who's crazy about Rogal's native life is missing. Find him. Reward: 800 Meseta During this quest, you will only fight Rag Rappys. However, as you progress through you will notice that one Rag Rappy in particular will stop and look at you. You will finally trap it in the big open area. Talk to it a few times to discover that it is Dr. Guls. He promises to leave and you are done with this rather easy quest. -----Native Research---------------------------- "Collect data on the native animals." Client: Alicia Quest: To help our study, collect data on native animals on Ragol. Reward: 2500 Meseta For this quest, you must defeat a group of each of the 5 basic types of enemies in Forest 1 and Forest 2. You are only allowed 20 minutes to do so. I recommend that you immediately head to Forest 2 and search out the Hildebear. Along the way you should collect data for a few other types of creatures. After you beat the Hildebear, head back to Forest 1 as you need to kill the Mothmant to get its data. You can find a swarm of them in the little grotto at the bottom where you usually start a stage. I highly recommend that you ignore all boxes along the way. Once you get the data from all 5 creatures, the timer stops and you can get the items at your leisure. -----Forest of Sorrow--------------------------- [Appears after completing Native Research] "The data from the capsules is unusual..." Client: Alicia Quest: I don't believe the results taken from the data capsules. I want to go see myself! Reward: 1500 Meseta Alicia Baz is dumbfounded by the data you collected. She wants to see the environment of the animals to see what happened to them. She wants to be taken to the Dome. Warp to Forest 2 and then go through the steps to get her to the weather detection device. You learn that Hildebears used to be quite friendly but obviously they aren't now. Go back to the other screen and look in the little grotto to find a baby Hildebear. After talking to it, you'll be able to go through the door to the next area. Head to the bottom right area to fight a huge group of Hildebears. Be sure to note the healing thingie on the first screen of Forest 2 so you can recover during the fight. After killing them you'll find the baby again and the quest will finally end. -----Gran Squall-------------------------------- "Gran Squall, a pleasure boat, departed before the explosion. Find the survivors." Client: Travel Agency Quest: The pleasure boat. Gran Squall, is lost. Find the survivors. Reward: 1000 Meseta At the beginning, you are told that you should not converse with any other hunters who are working on the case. But of course we are rebels so we'll just ignore that. Head to the bottom area and talk to the guy with the enormous gun. His name is Bernie and he'll help you out. Head to the left and Bernie will help you through a door you normally could not have gotten through. Along the way Bernie will explain that the Gran Squall is really a military ship. The sole survivor holds key data that Bernie is interested in. Warp to Forest 2. In Forest 2 you will have to fight through a large number of enemies in order to find a warp to the Pioneer 1 area. The teleporter is in the bottom right area of the map. Inside, kill the Monests and you'll find the survivor there and the quest is complete. -----First Boss--------------------------------- After completing all of the above quests, you will no longer be able to select any quests. This is your cue that you are ready to fight the first boss. Just go to the Forest 1 and make your way all the way to Pioneer 1. Along the way you will find notes left by Red Ring Rico. At Pioneer 1 you will find an enormous warp that takes you to the dragon boss. To defeat this dragon, you must attack its feet to knock it down and then hit the area where its neck connects to its body. It will try to step on you and also breath fire at you. After the first time you knock it down, it will begin to fly in the air to attack, where it will try to squash you or breath down flames at you. It will then burrow into the ground ala Bugs Bunny and try to hit you from below. Keep moving to dodge him and then repeat the same method of attack. It will continue to fly whenever it feels like it after the first time. This isn't too tough of a boss, really. ------------------------------------------------ After defeating the dragon, go back and talk to the members of the Principal's entourage and you will be allowed to choose new quests. ------------------------------------------------ -----The Value of Money------------------------- "A wife is depressed" Client: Gizel's wife Quest: I want my husband to stop wasting money. He buys too many weapons. Reward: 300 Meseta Gizel is the guy in the Shop area. Just talk to him and say the following: "No, I don't understand." "Because you're a fool." After that, go back to talk to the wife again. She seems to pity him a little but then says to tell him "NO MORE SHOPPING!" Go relay the message to him then talk to the wife again to earn your easy 300 Meseta. -----Addicting Food----------------------------- "Possible food problem aboard Pioneer 2." Client: Trekka Quest: I want to eat something sweet! Reward: 1500 Meseta If you're like me, this is the first Cave quest you will do. The Cave areas are similar to the familiar Forests, only they look like caves and they have masher things that can hurt you randomly scattered about. Also, traps will pop out of nowhere and explode after a few seconds. Get away from them. Bring anti-poison and anti-paralysis on this mission and all other subsequent Cave missions. You'll need them (and besides, MAG likes them ^_^). The Grass Assassins are particularly annoying. They'll shoot this substance at you that locks you in one place for a few seconds. Try to avoid it. If they rear back, get out of their way or they will charge you. The Nano Dragons will shoot painful lasers at you and fly out of harm's way when you get near them. Keep getting in a few hits and following them around to kill them. The Sharks are just stronger tougher versions of the basic enemies of the forests. The flowers are the ones that poison and paralyze you. Neither one is fun but if you run out of the antidote to either one of them, just let the flower keep shooting stuff at you until you catch the other one which you still have antidote for. To make your way through this area, you need to find your way to the center area where a healing chamber is located. In one of the adjacent rooms, you'll find a warp that leads to an area where the warp to Cave 2 is located. Once you reach Cave 2, you'll find that the scenery dramatically changes, yet the enemies remain the same. You will run into a new enemy though, the Pofuilly Slime. It moves along on the ground and then pops up to attack you from anywhere on the screen with its arms. You must hit this creature once while it is off the ground. That will cause it to get back to the ground and repeat itself. Keep hitting it to kill it. When the path splits, head left and then up. Trigger the switch then backtrack and take the other path for items. Then head back to the room where you triggered the switch and keep going for another horde of treasure. Finally, go back and go the one way you haven't gone yet. Watch out for traps galore here. Make your way to the warp. Go a few screens and trigger the switch. Go back through the warp and go to the now open door. This part is linear for a bit so just keep playing through. There's a healing chamber here as well. In the room with all the doors, you'll see two red buttons on the floor next to each door. One opens the door, one hurts you. Don't forget about the healing area a little back. I went up first and snagged some treasure, then left for more treasure, then down for even more treasure and a warp to Cave 3. You have new enemies in Cave 3. The Pan Arms is a huge creature that shoots lasers. It will split into the Migium and Hidoom. You can only hurt the two separate entities. Make your way to the upper right and after the room with the three mashers you'll find the cake sisters. After you buy a cake you can end your quest, or if you're sadistic like me feel free to wander around a bit more for treasure and such. -----The Lost Bride----------------------------- "Cicil got fat by using too many recovery items. Help her diet!" Client: Cicil, Force Quest: I'm too fat to go back to my fiance. Please help me diet! Reward: 2500 Meseta Cicil wants to lose weight and you are the trainer. First you have to go to the waterfall in the cave. Head to Cave 2 using the Warp in the top left area of Cave 1. In case you don't know where the waterfall is, it's in the bottom left region of Cave 2. You'll know when you get there. Nice easy quest, assuming you can do your job and keep Cicil from getting hit much. She loses a HUGE amount of weight after this quest, not really sure why... -----Secret Delivery---------------------------- "Deliver a top secret package underground!" Client: Simons Quest: I want this package to be dropped off on Ragol, underground, immediately. Reward: 4500 Meseta Simons tells you in your briefing that the item in the package will research animals. It is to be delivered to YN-0117 on floor B2. You have 45 minutes to do so. Before starting the quest, talk to the guy near the guild and answer "!!" to both his questions to get a WEAPONS emblem. To join the club you have to get permission from all other members. Okay, time to move on. When the path splits, go up then follow the linear path until the part with the electric fences. Ignore that path as it only leads to treasure. Keep going past the room with the hole in it. In the next room head up again. Take the warp to run into a guy who isn't too useful. Kill all the enemies in the previous room to open the doors. Go through the area opposite the useless guy. You'll encounter a cyborg. Ignore it and go to the next room to hit the switch. Backtrack to go through the now open door to warp to Cave 2. Head left both times the path splits then follow the linear path for a bit. In the area with all the doors, go up and left for switches. Ignore the cyborgs. Backtrack and go through the now open area for a Warp. Talk to the cyborg on the ground and insert the item in the package. It is named Elenor. You should remember her from the quest near the beginning of the game. Your Quest is done so feel free to scurry back to the town. -----The Grave's Butler------------------------- "Grave's butler disappeared. Why?" Client: Matha Grave Quest: My butler, Blant, had disappeared. He's been like a father to me. Reward: 3500 Meseta Play through the linear part at the beginning. Go right when you reach the fork to find a message from the Butler. Then backtrack and go up. Warp and after undoing the electric fences, enter the door behind them. Continue through the big room with the hold in the middle and get your next eerie message. In the next area, go up for treasure then down to run into two mindless drones that aren't on much help. Move along to get yet another message. In the next area, head right to turn off the electric gate around the healing chamber then go left for a Warp. Follow the path to warp to Cave 2. When the path splits, go up and then up and left for treasure. The right path leads to a warp for even more treasure that ends up taking you back where you came from. Read the message then get your treasure in the one opened electric area. Go through the other door and follow the path and you'll find the final message to complete the quest. Note that the quest is completed after you walk to the next screen from the message. -----Waterfall Tears---------------------------- [Appears after the above quests are completed] "A female hunter and the hunters seeking her are missing." Client: Kroe, hunter Quest: Find my sister. She's a hunter who disappeared recently. Reward: 1800 Meseta When you walk in the first screen, you will be attacked by hunters, and in particular Kroe's twin sister. Attack her enough and they will vanish. Be careful cause you'll lose life quickly here. The next room has a bajillion traps in it. Continue onward and go down when the path splits. By going through the door with the switch, you'll be able to undo the electric fence and also get back to the beginning. Go through the door behind the electric fence (step on all four tiles on the floor). In that room you'll find a copious amount of treasure. Collect then go through the remaining door. Play along the linear path and make your way past the room with the big hole in it. When the path splits, go up to trigger the switch and get stuff. Then go down and take the Warp past the scary dark room for more goodies. Return back to take the right path and continue onward. When the path splits, left eventually leads to a healing chamber. The right path leads to a lot of Nano Dragons and traps. Eww! Keep going that way for your Warp to Cave 2. At the first crossroad, head right to lead to another encounter with Kroe's sister. Defeat her to finish your quest. -----Black Paper-------------------------------- [Appears after Waterfall Tears is completed] "The Mastermind behind the missing hunters is a trader?" Client: Kroe, hunter Quest: Black Paper is the mastermind behind the missing hunters! Reward: 2000 Meseta Read the letter to learn a bit more about your situation. Kroe is at Black Paper's place and you gotta go bust him while the busting is good. Of course, he's in the caves. Play through for a bit until you can go either up or down. Up is treasure so feel free to snag it. Proceed down and around to the next room. Up leads to the un-electric terminal and also to the beginning area. Hit the terminal then head down (do the floor step thing). Get the items there and then go back to take the right path. Wander along until the crossroads then go up for a trigger, down for a warp to treasure, then go right. At the next chance, left leads to a healing chamber and right leads to Cave 2. At the first crossroad, go right. At the same place you ended the previous quest you'll run into Black Paper and co. Beat up the guy and continue. Play through a lot of linearness and when you finally get to a part where you have to choose, take the rightmost door. Then go down to warp to Cave 3. At your first choice, go left for goodies then continue along the straight path. You'll see everyone again for a second. Take the left path and follow it for a good while for lots of treasure. Otherwise, go right. Here, up leads to treasure. Head down to run into the crew again. Kill yet another baddie (who nicely enough says "I died..." when he dies then proceeds to tell you that it hurt afterwards...) Head into the next room to end this quest. -----Second Boss-------------------------------- After finishing all above quests, it's time for the 2nd boss. Head into Cave 1. Play through Cave 1 to Cave 3. You should see messages as you play through. Generally, just take the door by the message to make your way through. Keep going to find the warp to the boss. The boss is a serpent-like creature that attacks you as you ride along a never-ending river of doom upon a raft. He'll throw out little cone-shaped things that explode after a period of time and then shoot out a barrage of purple blasts. After that he'll jump around and eventually land on the raft. This is your cue to attack it. It attacks 4 times with tentacles before getting off the raft. It also has a strong frontal shell you have to break before you can actually hit the creature. After the second time he jumps onto the raft, he'll jump onto the ceiling and walk above you, causing rocks to fall onto the raft. Then the lights go out and he'll rear up and start shooting purple lasers at you along with the standard cones and purple blasts. After the second time he uses the lasers, the lights come back on and the process repeats. The boss has a very high HP and I recommend leveling up if it kills you the first time. For me, the battle took about 15-20 minutes using a level 17 HUnewearl. ------------------------------------------------ After winning, go and talk to the Principal and you'll get your next set of quests. ------------------------------------------------ To Be Continued... ************************************************ Items ************************************************ Antidote: Neutralizes poison in the body.
