Version 1- Everything's new! Non-Special Human classes are done Intro- This guide is meant to be the Be all and End all of Character guides, allowing you to plan, form, and choose the optimum way to grow your characters in the Knight of Lodis. Ultimately the decisions are up to you, but hopefully this guide will help you reach your conclusions. Table of Contents- 1. Male/Female Human Classes 2. Male Only Classes 3. Female Only Classes 4. Dragon Classes 5. Monsters 1. Male/Female Human Classes New to TO: The Knight of Lodis is a series of classes deemed Unisex. These are formed from the Established Basic Classes of previous games, with the omission of the Amazon(As this class is superceded by the Soldier class). Forming the basics of every other class in the game, these are far from useless. You'll find that, in training for the more advanced classes, that you'll be coming back to these time and time again. Also of note is the Lich and Angel Knight, 2 classes that are a sort of 'Permanent' change and require special conditions to change to. The High Class Priest, while Light Years above the basic classes, is also considered a Male/Female Class. Soldier- Requirements- None Pros- Solid performer, Balanced Stats Cons- No outstanding qualities Everyone, save special characters, start out in this class. Soldiers have no favored weapon and perform best with whatever you happen to equip them with. Their stat growth is slow but balanced, so it's best to change out of this class as soon as possible. It offers no long term benefits. Ninja- Requirements- Str 36 and Agl 37 Pros- Fast Speed and Mobility, Long Range Special Abilitys, Cons- Low Defense and Physical Power Ninja's are almost but not quite completly upgraded soldiers. While their VIT and Defense is lower, the diffrence at low levels is hardly noticable. Ninjas are great as a shock trooper, as they move fast and often. A Ninja's Favored weapon is a Katana, but these are Rare and take both hands to use, so it's your call to use them or not. Powerful enough to last a good long time. The only problem you'll find is that they have a definitive power deficency...Ninjas will be doing less and less damage as the game goes on. Cleric- Requirements- Int 28 and MP 18, L or N characters only Pros- Healing Spells Con- Weak Combatent Let's face it, you need a priest. No one else in the game has the recovery power of this class(Save the Upgrade of Priest) and you'll be saved time and time again by it. It's best to Designate one character your 'Healing' Character, and be sure not to use them in actual combat, as Both the Priest and Cleric have maximum kill requirements. Another plus is the use of the Undead Eradicating Faith and Exorcism magics. Wizard- Requirements- Int 26 and Mp 16, N or C characters only Pros- Magic...Lots and Lots of Magic Cons- Everything else No longer the gods they were in the original Tactics Ogre, Wizards were hit HARD. Their magic remains powerful but every other stat takes a nose dive. Only useful to gain the Requirements for the Warlock Class. Siren's, and even Warlocks to an extent, completly outclass these guys. They DO have a use though- With their High Mp and Int growth, their good for raising those stats if your trying to get a certain class. Knight- Requirements- Str 51 and Agl 51 and the Knight's Certifacate Emblem Pros- Solid Offensive and Defensive Power. Healing magic Cons- No Outstanding Weakneses I honestly believe that it is entirely possible to go through the game with a group of all Knights! They gain EXCELLENT Strength and Defensive Gains, as well as respectable growth in Int and Agl as well! The fact that they can use most Low Level Virture magic, including Lightning Bow, gives them both offensive and defensive flexibility. Their slow as a snail early game, but training as a Ninja can alleivate that. A Superb class! Archer- Requirements- Agl 37 Pros- Long Ranged Attack, Decent DEX score Cons- Weak Defense, Close Range deficency How the mighty have fallen. In the original Tactics Ogre, an Archer with a Good Bow was nearly godlike once they had the vertical advantage. Not so in Knight of Lodis. Their attack power has taken a large plummet, and their defense is even worst then last time. Their by no means useless, but rarely worth the trouble unless you find an especially powerful bow. Priest- Requirements- Int 96 and Mp 76, L or N characters only, Heavenly Light Emblem, killed less then 10 characters Pros- MORE Healing Magic, Vivify Cons- Little Offensive Power WOW! Just looking at the requirements list you'll figure out their must be something special about this class. Higher Magic Power then the Cleric and slightly tougher to kill, a Priest is an absolute nesscity thanks to their Resurrection spell. Angel Knight- Requirements- Str 89, Int 81, Agl 88, Hp 215, Mp 66, L characters only, ???? Emblem, and Die in battle after meeting other requirements. Pros- Great Special Abilitys, Flight, Versatility Cons- Hard to Obtain, Specilized Character One of the 'Not so Undead' classes, that is a class that is considered Undead but does not share their trait of getting back after dying. An Angel Knight can only be obtained by first reviving a Dead Character, Raising their stats to the required level, and then letting them die again. If their stats are up to par, they'll become an Angel Knight immediatly...if your Lucky. A High Biorhythm helps. Rapiers are their preferred weapon, and they use their wings to great effect on the battlefield. Banish can obliterate undead, and their son can fill the SP, HP, AND Mp of Undead, although the SP refill is only of use to the Zombie Dragon. Lich- Requirements- Int 134, Mp 118, C characters only, ???? Equipped, Die in Battle after reaching requirements Pros- MAJOR Offensive power, Decent Defensive Power Cons- Can't use the Majorly powerful summoning spells. Similar to an Angel Knight in their class change process, Lichs form the other half of the 'Not so Undead' pair. Like an Angel Knight, they are considered Undead but do not share their ability to get back up after being 'Killed'. Liches are THE Spellcasters in this game, with Godlike ability in their Int and Men attributes. They can use 3 attack spells plus the Necro spell, which allows them to raise fallen comrades as Undead. If you need some Magical Muscle, you can't go wrong with this class. They have ridiculous Magical and Physical defense as well. One of the best classes in the game. Male Only Classes- These 'High' Classes are only available to Male characters who meet the requirements. Beast Tamer Requirements- Str 34 and Hp 142, Killed less then one 'Beast' Enemy(Gryphon, Hellhound, Octopus etc.) Pros- Strong Physical Statistics, Powers up Beasts Cons- Beasts not worth the trouble, Whip only hits one target By far the easiest of the Male only classes to get, the Beast Tamer has 2 things going for it: It's favored weapon the Whip and it's ability to power up Beast Type Monsters within 3 tiles of him. This, however, is negated by the fact that, At least compared to the other monsters you can recruit, Beasts just aren't worth the trouble. The fact that Unlike a Spear a whip can only hit 1 target is also a minus. Warlock Requirements- Str 90, Int 76, Mp 78, L or N characters only, The Pen and the Sword Emblem Pros- Support Magic, Offensive Power, Versatility Cons- Weak Defensive Power, No Offensive Magic The Warlock got a MAJOR Overhaul compared to previous Ogre Battle games. Classified now as a Hybrid Fighter/Mage, the Warlock is comfortable in both the Support and Offensive roles. It's large variety of Supplementary Magic allows it's a powerful flexibility, and it's attacking power lets it stay on the front lines where he can be of use. His defensive power however is lacking, and the only weapon he really preforms well with is his Favored weapon- The Sword. Sword Master Requirements- 95 Str, 111 Agility, Book of Initation Emblem Pros- VERY Fast and Hard hitting. Tons of special abilites. Cons- Somewhat Low Defense *Jaw Drops* WOW! These guys ROCK! Very fast movement combined with a solid offensive package as well as some limited support magic turn the Sword Master into a literal One Man Army! They only BAD thing about this class is you'll feel guilty for slamming the bad guys around with it. A True Must Have. Dragoon Requirements- 109 Str, 94 Agl, N or C characters only, Dragon's scale emblem Pros- A Walking Tank Cons- A Walking Tank Do you hear that? It's the sound of the Dragoon slowly thumping his way towards you..weilding either his Spear or Sword(For he in best with both!) with the sole intent of turning you into a grease smear. Combing some of the Traits of the Terror Knight class with the traditional Dragoon, this class comes out as the most physicaly dominating class in the game. This comes with a price though- A Dragoons magical aptitude is near null, and even though they get an attack spell, it's largely wasted on them. Still, this class is a must for any battle group. Female Only Classes- These 'High' Classes are available only to Female characters who meet the requirements Valkyrie Requirements- 38 str, 41 Int, Lancer Emblem Pros- Mid to Short Range Attacker, Balanced Stats Cons- No Outstanding Strengths Abit similar to a more combat oriented Warlock, the Valkyrie is excellent at pounding an enemy afar with both spear and spell. Out of the Female classes, she's probibly the best when it comes to a straight out fight. This class is a good one to use if you plan on making an eventual Angel Knight. Siren Requirements- 60 Int, 60 Mp, Philosopher's Stone Emblem Pros- VERY Strong Magical Aptitude Cons- VERY Weak Physical Aptitude THIS is the Spellcasting class to use, at least if you want pure destructive power and don't have a Lich yet. Siren's are just light years ahead of the Wizard. They use, oddly enough, Fans as their favored weapons, which can have some unique effects when used, but their far from fit for Physical Combat Witch Requirements- 35 Int, 38 Mp, Vixen's Whisper, N or C Characters only Pros- Surprinsgly Fast, EXCELLENT Stats Cons- No Offensive Power Are you planning on making a Lich out of your Females? Excellent choice! The Witch is the class you'll want to spend at least alittle time in, as their stat gains are AMAZING for a Magic using class. Her support magic is powerful, but she is crippled because of a lack of offensive ability. Strategical use of a Witch is a MUST! Dragon Tamer Requirements- 140 Hp, 12 Mp, Killed at the most 1 Dragon Pros- Strong Defense, Decent Offense, Powers up Dragons Cons- No true offensive power The Dragon Tamer can hold their own on the battlefield with their Favored Thrusting swords, and can equip a shield as well. Because they can wear some of the lighter armor, they end up having a respectable defense and offense. Their true strength is in powering up Dragons within 3 tiles of them. If your using a Dragon then GET this class. Their single magic spell is icing on the cake Demi Humans- These characters, while unable to change class, have the bonus of being able to use Weapons and Armor. They also have an array of special abilities. Hawk-Men Pros- Fast, Strong, Powerful Magic attack Cons- Sluggish, Outclassed late game The closest thing to Canopus, without actually being him. Hawkmen hit hard, fly, and can earn almost every emblem in the game. By FAR one of the most powerful and useful demi-humans. Their Thunder Arrow adds even more fun to this class. Only problem with it is the stat gains are on the lower side, leaving it outclassed late game. Try one, you'll probibly like it Fairy/Gremlin Pros- 2 sides of the coin, Fast, Agile, Floating and Flying Cons- Physicaly Weak Fairy's are the 'lighter' side, while Gremlins the darker. The Fairy gets healing/support, the Gremlin damaging/suppot style attacks. Other then that, their alot similar. These guys can be REALLY good as long as you keep them out of the line of magic and their backs covered, as they have INSANE Agility and Evade rates Gorgon Pros- Evil Eye Cons- Everything Else Gorgons have fallen SOOOOOOO much since the days of Tactics Ogre. They still retain their Evil Eye attack, but it requires SP now and thus limits it's use(As there's no way of artificaly boosting SP). They still use bows as their favored weapons, but Powerful bows are few and far between. A Specilized class for special circumstances. You also can't get them until practicaly the end of the game -_- Beasts- Beasts all have High HP totals coupled with powerful physical statistics and special abilities. This is offeset by their lack of being able to equip anything save accesorys Giants Undead- While there are several Undead types in the game, the only one you'll be able to get(Aside from 2 exceptions, already covered) is the Ghost. Ghost- Pros- Floating/Warping. Bane Magic. Revive ability Cons- Physicaly weak, Low stats Ghosts were hit almost as hard as wizards when it came to a power downgrade. Ghosts still have all their old abilities, but they cannot take a hit at all. Plus their intelligence gain is low, making them subpar spellcasters compared to the other classes. Still, they have their uses, so it's your call to use them or not. These can be a Terror if you create them from a class raised as a Dragoon, Swordmaster, or Knight, as their large Offensive/Defensive gains will offset many of the ghosts weaknesses
