FFX-2 Jobs Explained

The following is intended to give the reader a sense of all the jobs to be found in Final Fantasy X-2, rather than an exhaustive description of all their abilities and uses. That kind of information belongs in a FAQ or Walkthrough document. With that in mind, let us proceed! There are 14 standard jobs, with three special classes unique to each character. They are listed in the rough order that they appear in the game.

Gunner
Gunner

The Gunner is Yuna's default job. It is a very basic job that specializes in damaging attributes other than HP. Some of the abilities require the player to repeatedly press the R1 button for extra damage.

Thief
Thief

Once again, Rikku starts the game as a Thief. Above and beyond the stealing of items, the Thief can also steal abstract qualities from an opponent, such as time.

Warrior
Warrior

The Warrior is Paine's default job. This is not in any way a supportive job, and is only useful for causing damage to the enemy. Like the Gunner, the Warrior has abilities that damage various attributes, but they always damage HP as well. Warriors also have a basic set of elemental attacks.

Singer
Singer

The Singer job has no regular attack, but it does have many abilities that bestow positive benefits on the entire party. The Singer can also perform several dances, occupying her time but protecting the party 100% from a number of ills. It is acquired early in the game.

White Mage
White Mage

Everybody knows White Mages. Most of the healer's spells have already appeared in Final Fantasy X, to say nothing of previous installments.

Black Mage
Black Mage

The Black Mage is more or less the same as Lulu from X. They are mainly useful against opponents who have a weakness against any of the four elements.

Trainer
Trainer

Each party member has a different version of the Trainer job, in that the creatures that they have at their disposal possess unique abilities. Yuna's creature can perform elemental attacks, Paine's has curative abilities, and Rikku's specializes in delay and steal moves.

Dark Gunner
Dark Gunner

Dark Gunners, also called Magic Gunners, have a whole list of special abilities that do quadruple damage when targeting different enemies. They also serve as Blue Mages.

Dark Knight
Dark Knight

Dark Knights gave props to FFIV's Cecil with his "Darkness" skill, but for the most part their abilities are used to inflict status ailments.

Gambler
Gambler

Players who enjoy taking a chance will enjoy using Gamblers, as their abilities unleash a bunch of random effects. The can also "Bribe" a foe to leave the battle, and perhaps drop an item.

Alchemist
Alchemist

The job called "Item Shooter" in Japan is forced to tone itself down for North America. That being said, they can still mix items together for special effects, or get unique bonuses when using certain items.

Berserker
Berserker

Counter-attack, Auto-Abilities, and status-inducing attacks characterize the Berserkers. It should be noted, however, that as fun as "Berserker" is to say, it apparently isn't actually a word.

Samurai
Samurai

The strong Samurais have a whole myriad of abilities at their disposal, including the classic "Gil Toss."

Mascot
Mascot

Mascots, like the Trainers, decide their ability lineup based on what party member takes up the job. Yuna acquires some Mooglish curative skills, Rikku can Ca(i)ttishly damage attributes, and Tomgirl Paine inflicts status effects with her damage. So where can I get outfits like these?

Floral Fallah
Floral Fallah

The Floral Fallah is Yuna's unique job. Each of the three unique jobs are actually three mini-jobs in one, as they have three sets of abilities. The Floral Fallah's main set involves multiple-hitting elemental attacks, and the secondary sets bestow beneficial statuses on the entire party.

Machina Muzzle
Machina Muzzle

The Machina Muzzle is all Rikku. All of its abilities in all the sets carry the common theme of damaging various attributes.

Full Throttle
Full Throttle

The Full Throttle has also been classified as "Zankio." At any rate, Paine's super-form has an impressive variety of abilities, albeit few of them curative.
