Maybe I should have told you what needed to be said,
about the death of he you knew and who lies in his stead.
Maybe then the night would finally succumb to dawn,
Maybe then the battle lines would never had been drawn.

Maybe if I'd told you the storm would wane or cease
Maybe through this hellish battle, I would find some peace
And maybe if I told you, the light wouldn't be so far,
maybe I would reach the hottest fire through the furthest star.

Maybe sins can be forgiven, transgressions washed away,
maybe rest comes to the weary and night comes to the day.
But maybe blood will always be my sword, my shield, my mark,
And maybe I don't have the strength to hoist the light and dark.
