I am always talking with my girl, and friends, so sometimes I just ignore some instant messages from people I do not know. Be nice, and I will talk to you, just don't come out and ask the question and be all rude if I do not respond in five seconds, otherwise I probably will just block you. I will answer all e-mails about the game, however. One last note: Only email me about the game at mcfaddednvg@yahoo.com, all emails about Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow sent to my other e-mail adresses will be deleted and/or ignored. Thanks to all those that have emailed me so far, I appreciate it! 1. Check my email backlog. If it's filled up, you may have to wait a while before you get a response. 2. I check my email once in a while. Please wait for a response, because I will respond to all emails. 3. Please read my guide before asking questions, thats why I have a FAQ and Reader Tips section. 4. I will only post your question/tip in my guide if it is good, and has not been answered in this guide. New plan: all questions can be sent to mcfaddenvg@yahoo.com and if you have anything you would like to add to the guide, send it to mcfa4834@bellsouth.net. This is because it is too tough for me to separate stuff people want me to add to the guide from basic questions. if you send any reader tips to mcfaddenvg@yahoo.com or any questions to mcfa4834@bellsouth.net, they will be deleted. He decided he liked to write for video games, so he did, at first writing crappy reviews, then moving onto crappy guides. Everyone usually doesn't like him, but it's all good, he says, as no one likes greatness.. or something. Seriously now, my name is Steve McFadden (no, duh) and I live in Florida, looking to save up some money so I can move to Australia to be with my girlfriend. I hope you like this guide, as I hope to get back into the "business" with this crappy guide. < 1.2 Game Information > I swear I never knew Aria of Sorrow was coming out so quickly. When I read reviews of it I didn't even think about the fact the game was coming out already. Didn't I just play Harmony of Dissocance like 2 months ago? Well, it was a lot longer, but it felt like it had been such a short time between the two games for Game Boy Advance. Therefore, you'd think AoS would be a tad disappointing. Thank god it's not. It might just be the best Castlevania yet. While I loved SoTN and CoTM, AoS has this unique souls system which really adds to the replay value, and not having to find heart max and life up bottles is a welcome relief. This is definitely a change from the norm, and it's certainly a welcome one. I love Aria of Sorrow! < 1.3 Guide Introduction > Why a guide for Aria of Sorrow? I wrote a guide for Circle of the Moon and loved doing it. I even has a guide for Harmony of Dissocance planned, it was formatted and everything, but sadly by the time I got into the game, my computer died. I do have a plan for the future though, in addition to doing all the Final Fantasy games. I plan to write guides for the 4 Castlevania games I love (SoTN and HoD included), and I'd be halfway done after this. Plus, I love writing for new games, not for the fame but for the pleasure of knowing I'm going to be helping more people, plus I feel a little pressure to perform, which will help me down the line. I encourage everyone to write for a newly released game at least one, that is if you can handle the emails (I got 100 CoTM emails a day!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ < 2.0 C O N T R O L S > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ < 2.1 Controls > Control Pad: Move character, move cursor on menu screens Start: Pause game, bring up submenu Select: Show map A: Jump, confirm selection on menu screens B: Attack normally, use Soul (press Up+B) cancel selection on menu screens L: Use currently selected ability R: Use currently equipped Time (blue) Soul < 2.2 Storyline > The year is 2035. Japan. Crowds of spectators are gathering around in anticipation of the first full solar eclipse of the twenty-first century. My name is Some Cruz, and I am a high school exchange student studying abroad in Japan. I live near the Hakuba Shrine, an ancient shrine with strong ties to Japanese mythology. Mina Hakuba, the only daughter of the shrine's caretaker, is both my classmate and my childhood friend. I started making my way to the shrine to see the solar eclipse with Mina. But, for some strange reason, the stairway leading up the shrine felt longer than usual, as if something was trying to keep us from our destination. When I finally managed to get through the shrine gate, and my senses began to dim... The pitch black sun is holding chaotic darkness together, trying to rouse a sleeping soul as if looking for its missing other half... < 2.3 Game Basics > Coming soon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ < 3.0 O T H E R I N F O R M A T I O N > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ < 3.1 Characters > ------------ SOMA CRUZ ------------ A young man who goes to Japan as a foreign exchange student. he views a solar eclipse and is sucked into it, and then discovers he's unlocked the secret of Dracula's Castle. < 3.2 FAQ's > If you have a question, email them to me and if they're good, I'll add them to the guide. 1. If the game takes place in the future, then why no guns or stuff like that? A: This is Dracuala's Castle. It may be Dracula's Castle in the 21st century, and it has some mechanical upgrades, but I wouldn't see the purpose of Dracula carrying guns, especially since it's supposed to be the same castle as it was in 1999, just sucked into the eclipse. 2. Souls are really hard to get! Do you have any advice? A: Yes, I know how hard they are to get, as I still am having trouble getting basic souls. The best advice is to find the enemy you want where you can easily get to him, like if he's the first enemy in the room, then kill him, leave, and come back. Equipping items that increase your luck help, but in the end it's all about luck and patience really. 3. Do you like the new Souls system? A: Definitely, I think it's a welcome change from the previous games in the series, which were not bad at all but felt like too much of the same thing. I do like the Souls system, however, as it adds to the gameplay tremendously in my opinion. 4. I missed a boss soul. Help! Do I get a chance to get it later? A: Yes, all boss souls can be gotten later on in the game except for Legion, Headhunter, and Death, who automatically give you their souls when you win. 5. What are those pictures in the background near the waterfall? A: The one on the left is Curly, the one in the middle is Manticore, the one on the right is Devil. Those are the three summons you can get in the game, by the way. 6. How do I beat (insert name here)? A: Check out the boss guide I wrote below, or check out the other great guides on GameFAQs for more help. 7. What occurs in the three endings? A: Bad Ending - Soma defeats Graham, but doesn't have the right souls equipped, so he doesn't inherit the power of Dracula. He escapes with Genya and Mina, but Soma feels like things are unfinished. Genya warns him that the castle is still in the eclipse, and will continue to call to him. Evil Ending - Soma loses to the final boss, Chaos. In a tribute to the opening of SOTN, Soma is lord of the castle and Julius keeps his promise of coming to kill him. Good Ending - Soma defeats Chaos and becomes his own person, free of the legacy of Dracula's evil. Everyone lives happy ever after, except for Hammer who is sacrificed to keep the castle from reappearing. 8. Are there any enemies in the game that don't give you a Soul? A: I'm pretty sure all enemies in the game give souls, since I have yet to find one that doesn't. If there is one I don't know about, let me know. 9. Are there any souls I can only get one time? A: Yes, the Legion boss. It has an outer shell that you must kill before killing the enemy. If you don't do this, you don't get the Legion soul. 10. What's the longest it's taken you to get a Soul? A: Believe it or not, I still have not yet gotten a Zombie Soul, despite the fact I've killed at least a thousand by now. It's insane. 11. I hear this game has a mode like Chrono Trigger's... A: Yes, in a great idea, Konami put in New Game Plus in this game. Get the best ending as Soma, then complete the game as J to get the New Game Plus Mode. You'll get to select a difficulty level, and your souls and equipment are carried over. You need to gain levels again, though, but that's no problem. 12. How do you kill the Tsuchinoko? A: Use Claimh Solais at high level. Just keep entering the room over and over until it's not burrowing into the ground. Get close and strike it a few times. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ < 4.0 W A L K T H R O U G H > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I tried to make this walkthrough as detailed as possible. If you have any questions, need additional help, or notice an error or omission, please contact me at the email address listed at the top of this guide. Thanks. ===================================+++++++++================================== < C A S T L E C O R R I D O R > ===================================+++++++++================================== Watch the opening of the game, as you will see Soma walk into the shrine. Then a scene will develop and the opening cinema plays. You will arrive in Dracula's Castle where the adventure begins. Move to the right and kill some Zombies, possibly picking up their Soul. They only give up 1 EXP and it takes a while to gain their Soul, so I wouldn't waste too much time here. In the next room, grab the SHORT SWORD and kill those annoying bats. Go down, then right, killing some Mermen, and go to the right most room and grab the GRAVE KEEPER via the vase in the room. Go back out. You can go left now but you'll just find a dead end. Good experience there, though, as you can find some evil fish over there that give good experience but are tough to kill. By the way, the Grave Keeper ability gives you the ability to slide backwards by pressing L. I don't know why I put it there, but okay. Back in the big room, jump up and move left to get a CAPE, then go into the next room, which is the save point, so recharge your energy and save. The thing I like a lot about this game is the lesser amounts of save rooms, by the way. It's a nice way to add artifical challenge and I'm glad Konami included it, as it made the game at least a LITTLE tougher. Move out of the save room and jump the ledges to reach the upper right room. Kill some Skeletons, then face your first Axe Armor. Just avoid the Axes and kill him. He takes several hits to down, especially if you're at a low level. Jump to the next ledge and kill another Axe Armor. Move down and right to fight the first boss in the game. He's not too tough, as you can just basically stand there and whack the crap out of him. That's what I did, anyways. However, his attacks really hurt and he can kill you if you are not careful. He moves back and forth, slowly, and if you touch it you'll get hit with some good damage. When its arm goes up, it's about to come down, and if he hits you you will get hurt big time. When a yellowish sign goes above the skull, jump to avoid the fireball he shoots. Just keep slashing his head and avoiding his attacks. Not bad for a first boss, eh? Snatch the CASTLE MAP 1 from the ledge, then go right into the Save Room. Save your progress, then go down and fight the Bats and the Peeping Eye (Peeping Eyes don't come around too often here, so grab the Soul if you want). Proceed to the next room and head all the way to the right. Jump into the water to lure the Killer Fish upwards, then kill them with two hits of your sword. At the end of this area is the FLYING ARMOR. Now, go back to the save room and save. Make sure to set the Flying Armor ability in your Soulset list. Move up, killing annoying enemies like Skull Archers, Blue Crows, and a single Buer (I got the Buer Soul here on the first chance, but there's an easier way to get it later), then when you get to the top, jump and press R to fly across the room to get to the next area. Kill the White Dragon to get the POTION, then proceed to the next room. Kill the enemies in the room, and grab the POTION and LEATHER ARMOR as well. Enter the room to the upper right. Here, go right and defeat the Axe Armor and Skull Archer. Move up the ledge and go right then down. Go right into the next room and grab the SCARF and leave. Move back several screens until you are back in the large room, then go into the lower-right section and enter that area. Here, defeat the Zombie Soldiers and Ghosts until you are in the next area. The next screen is fairly basic, as well. Defeat the Zombies and Skeletons in the following room, then proceed to the next room. Once you get to the large area with several different paths, jump right and enter the Save Room. Exit, then drop down to the bottom, and head left to the next room. Go to the bottom of this room and go left to the next room where you should go all the way left. At the end you get 500 dollars, as well as the experience for killing all those enemies. Not bad. Now, go all the way right and grab the POTION. Go back to the save room area and go up, then right into another room. Soma will meet Graham Jones for the first time and you will be in the new area, the Chapel. ===================================+++++++++================================== < C H A P E L > ===================================+++++++++================================== Go right, then jump up either of the broken staircase and clear out the enemies in here if you want. It's completely optional, since all you get is a MIND UP for now, but the enemies are easy to kill and you get experience and possibly a Soul for your trouble. Back in the main room, go right into the next room. When you get to the bottom of this room, go right and jump the ledges to get to tot he steps. Go up them, then head left and up. When you get to the top, drop down to get the RAPIER, and go back down to the room below. Here, grab the 100 dollars, then go right and drop down the ledges. The first room to the left is the save room. Continue down, then go right once you are at the bottom. There's nothing really here, but it's good if you want to level up which I recommend. Then head to the room to the left. I correct myself, this might be a better place to level up. The enemies in here are a Rock Armor and two Unes. The Rock Armor is easy enough to kill, just watch the rocks he throws, and the Unes can be easily killed by using the Bat Soul. I got to about Level 15 here, but you don't need to waste time like I did. Once you are done leveling up (if you choose to), head left until you get to the boss room. The boss here is the Manticore, and he's a little tougher than the Creeking Skull, but the bosses don't get truly tough yet. He's a pain in the ass though, because he moves back and forth and has this fireball attack which hurts. You can't stand too close to him, and there are spikes on the platforms which can hurt you and impede your progress, so it's not fun. Your best bet is to stay back and just use Souls on him, or you can just attack, move, rinse and repeat. He has two attacks, a stinger attack where he will move back and his tail will wiggle, followed by his tail moving at you, and the fireball attack where his mouth glows. He's not too bad once you get the hang of it. Congratulations on beating him! Now, jump up the right hand platforms and enter the room. Kill a Skeleton Knight and get the SILK ROBE. There are new enemies in here when you return, which are the annoying ass Ghost Dancers which just fly around the room and hit you at inopportune times, and the Quezlcoatl, which may just be the most annoying enemies in the game besides the Ghost Dancers cuz they just bounce across the room and are hard to kill. Move left into the next room, then proceed through this room, at the bottom is the Zombie Officer. I got the Soul for it here, but you'll find more later. The door here leads to the Study. ===================================+++++++++================================== < S T U D Y > ===================================+++++++++================================== New music for the Study.. I like it best so far of all the songs in the game. Go right and fall down to the platform below. Move into the left room, then drop down, and head left to get the UNCURSE POTION. Kill a Evil Ghost and Evil Butchers (nice time to pick up these two souls if you want, there's like 4 Evil Butchers in this room), then go down and left at the end. There are three types of enemies in this room: Fleamen, Arachnes, and Ectoplasms, and you should try to pick up at least one soul here. Move onward to the next room. Go left and you will encounter the first of many Catoblepas. Watch out for his breath attack, as he turns you to Stone. I died the first time here because he kept stoning me until I died, so avoid that at all costs. Move up the platforms and kill the Rock Armor (make sure to wait until he throws the rock before jumping up on the top platform), then make your way to the upper right hand portion of the room to grab the 100 dollars. Go out of this room, downwards. There's a save room to the left, so do so then head out and right. Don't go down yet, instead follow the path straight right to the next room. Here, you will meet up with Yoko Belnades for the first time. Once the scene is down, move right and defeat the enemies. The Minotaur/Catlobepas/Ectoplasm room here is a good chance to pick up needed souls and good experience by the way. In the next room, go right and grab the Potion, then fall downards and go right to another room. Here, you will see a weird looking face that sort of looks like the bird face at the end of a level in Super Mario Brothers 2. However, here he'll only move his face allowing you passage if you move away from him, so do so and dash backwards when his face opens. The end of this path has the WHIP SWORD. Now, go left two screens and you will have to face a new boss, the Great Armor. Before entering this battle, have the Whip Sword equipped, I didn't think this guy was all that bad, despite his high resistance to physical attacks (he'll block about half your whip attacks). I just stood there and kept hitting him, ducking his sword, until he died. Just duck below him and keep whipping him. When he's about to hit you with the sword, just dash backwards. Also, he moves backwards and forwards a lot, and just touching him damages you, so beware of that. Also, he has a stabbing attack, but that's easy enough to avoid. Enter the room and you will meet up with Hammer for the first time. When he leaves, get the MALPHAS ability, which allows for a double jump. Go back to the save room to recover, then go up and right to that room with the Fleamen/Arachne/Ectoplasm combination. The next room has a box. Push it off the ledge to the left, then move it right and double jump off it to get the BROADSWORD, then leave the room and come back and push the box to the right to get the HEART PENDANT. Leave this room to the left, then keep going until you're back to the room with the red door. Enter it, then at the top, double jump and fly onto the next platform. In the next room follow the path and grab the HAMMER, then go back down and enter the lower left room. Take the BASTARD SWORD, leave, then go up and left into the room. Go through the red door, then down the hall and you'll be back in the chapel. ===================================+++++++++================================== < C H A P E L > ===================================+++++++++================================== Head up the steps, then at the top, double jump then fly to the upper left platform and enter the room. Here, move upwards, and at the top, go right and proceed to the next room. This room has those freaking Ghost Dancers I hate. I mean, seriously, why put them in the game? I'd almost prefer the Medusa Heads, at least you can see those! Head left into the room and take the ANTI VENOM, then jump up the ledges and enter the top left room for the first warp. Choose the destination you wish to go to (there's only one choice, so nyah), and you'll be back at the entrance to the castle. ===================================+++++++++================================== < C A S T L E C O R R I D O R > ===================================+++++++++================================== Head right, then go upward and get the 50 dollars from the 2 Torches and kill the 2 Evil Dolls. The bottom right hand corner of this area hosts the CESTUS weapon, which is a weak weapon because it only allows for hand to hand combat. Now, go back to the previous room and head downward and you'll be in a room full of Zombies. I still haven't gotten a freaking Zombir Soul, despite the fact I killed hundreds of the bastards. Move left to the next area, which is outside the castle. ===================================+++++++++================================== < O U T S I D E T H E C A S T L E > ===================================+++++++++================================== Jump up the platforms, and get the LUCKY CHARM. Talk to Hammer and Mina. Mina will refill your health and magic, while Hammer will sell you better weapons and armor, so pick some up as well as some Potions. ===================================+++++++++================================== < C A S T L E C O R R I D O R > ===================================+++++++++================================== Go back to the first save room, then save and recover. Exit the room, then head up and right. In the next room, go up and jump and fly to the upper most platform. Go right and up, then head left and drop down the ledges to get the LANCE. Go back up and right and proceed north. Here, defeat the Sirens and follow the path until you are at the Dance Hall. ===================================+++++++++================================== < D A N C E H A L L > ===================================+++++++++================================== Move to the left a little and you will meet up with J, who apparently had some sort of freak accident in 1999 and now can no longer remember much of anything. Go left into the next room, then defeat the Zombie Officer (they're out in forces now, and by the way their soul is pretty useless). Jump to the ledges above, and proceed to the room northward of here. Go right into the save point, then leave and go down to the previous room, then left into the next section. Here, go down and left, killing some damn Ghost Dancers. In the next room, kill some Durgas and enter the upper left area. Fight the damn Quezlcoatls, or just run through them like I did, then in the next room, drop down below. In the next room, you will find another warp, but you don't need it. Just thought I'd point it out for later. And to open up some more map. And for the Nemesis Soul. Go back to the save room. Save and recover, then leave and enter the room to the left. Kill some enemies (QUEZLCOATL EVIL), then in the next room, go north. Here, move right and get the Waiter Skeleton soul if you want (I got it on my first chance). When you get to the platforms, jump up to the next room. Go east and defeat the enemies to get the 100 dollars, then go all the way left for another 100 dollars. Go back to the save room, then go down two rooms, and left into the EVIL GHOST DANCER ROOM. Fall down in the lower left hand corner room. Go into the room to the right and defeat the enemies in the first two screens. On the third screen, drop down. In the next room, take the 500 dollars and go all the way back to the way you came in. Once there, go to the bottom of the room and go right, killing tons of enemies. You will eventually reach a save point, and to the left is the boss room, where you will face the Big Golem. This guy was a pain in the ass to me in my emulator because he moved way too fast. Once I got the game on GBA I was able to beat him with ease. He moves back and forth and swings his arms, but just duck like you did against the Great Armor to avoid this attack. The boss will also stop and duck to spit out rocks, and he also has these punching attacks, but these could also be avoided. Attack his legs and watch out for his arm for an easy win. Remember, having the Whip Sword equipped helps big time. Once you beat him, get the SLIDING ABILITY. Go back to the save room, then go back a couple of rooms and slide under the low passage to get the HIGH POTION. Go all the way back to the other save room, then go down a room, then right one, and slide under the wall. The door at the end takes you to the Inner Quarters. ===================================+++++++++================================== < I N N E R Q U A R T E R S > ===================================+++++++++================================== Defeat the Persephone, then head up and once you get to the top, double jump to the platform and pick up the HIGH MIND UP. Proceed through the room to the right, and move upwards. When you get to the split in the path, go right and kill the Persephone. Go through the left room and you will be made to leave. So, head to the top and enter the area to the left for the Save Room area. Save and recover, then exit the room and go across the pit. Enter the room and you will have to fight the Headhunter. This boss has three forms, and none of them are all that bad, although you may find yourself having a little bit of trouble with the third one. First things first. Her first form is the form of a maid, which isn't bad at all. She just moves around and does weak attacks, so keep slashing her and she'll turn into a witch. She'll fly up and down across the room, casting weak magic spells on you, so avoid those and keep slashing her until she dies. Her reptilian final form will move at you and attack with her tongue, but avoiding that is easy. Like I said, this battle isn't that bad at all. Winning the battle gets you the Headhunter Soul. Cool. Head back to the Save Room, then go into the room to the right and jump onto the platform to the next room. Move your way up through this room, then get the HAUNTING SWORD. Go right, then double jump onto the platform and break the candle to get the UNDINE SOUL. You now have the power of God himself, as you can walk on water. Go ahead and try it. In the game, that is. ;) Move back to the save room and save and rest. Go back out and move right two screens. Head down the steps and move right. Stand on the water using the soul you just got, then double jump to the platform and move to the next room, where you have to go down. Go left and head down this room, at the end is a Warp Room, but you don't need it, so move out and drop into the room below. Drop to the bottom area and move left. The second hole in the floor is the one you need to go down, and then go through the red door to get back to the Castle Corridor. ===================================+++++++++================================== < C A S T L E C O R R I D O R > ===================================+++++++++================================== Yeah, I don't know why you need to keep coming back here, either. Drop into the room, then drop to the lower area and go in the room to the left. Move to the next room, then fall down and go right into the Save Room. Leave the room, then go down and right. In the next room, go all the way right and use Undine to walk on the water. Double jump up to the platform, and jump in the room. Follow the path to get to the Floating Garden. ===================================+++++++++================================== < F L O A T I N G G A R D E N > ===================================+++++++++================================== Move to the right, and continue along the path until you get to the fountain. Jump on it, then ride the platform up. Jump to the platform and move right to the next room, where you get the CASTLE MAP 3, then leave this room and ride the platform back down. Go right into the next room, and soon you will be at the Save Room. Save and recover, then go all the way back to the first room. Take the leftmost platform up to the ledge, then jump to the second moving platform and jump up. You'll be in a new room, so ride this platform and at the top, go left. Kill some enemies and at the top you can get 500 dollars. The next room also has 500 dollars at the top. The next room has 500 dollars, as well, and the next room is the entrance to the Clock Tower. ===================================+++++++++================================== < C L O C K T O W E R > ===================================+++++++++================================== You'll meet up with Graham here again. After the scene is over, follow him into the next room. You'll be in this weird room with mechanical gears. Move down them, and watch out for spikes. In the next room, go down, and go right into the room. The next room has you doing the same thing, and the right door at the end has the Save Point. Move out and go through the left door. Here, you will meet up with Yoko. Go left through a few rooms, and once you get to the end, jump up to go to the next section. Once you get through this room, go right and enter the room to the left once you make it all the way up. Defeat the Lightning Dolls here and move up to the room above. Here you will find a Great Armor, so if you didn't get its soul before, now's a good chance to get it. In the next room, jump up the platforms, watching out for the enemies, and make sure to save in the room to the right, because the room to the left has.. Death. He's the hardest boss in the entire game in my opinion (well, so far, I haven't faced the last boss yet). His first form is not too bad. You will only see his scythe at first, so just aim for that, and avoid the smaller weapons that he will shoot at you from time to time. As long as you keep aiming for his weapon and avoid it as well as the weapons he throws at you, you'll soon get to the point where he starts to glow, and then he'll shoot off 5 orbs at you and come charging after you. Move in the opposite direction of the orbs and you'll be alright. The second form is even worse, believe it or not. Now, he'll be visible, but don't let that fool you into thinking this makes the boss easy, because it doesn't. Now, he has this double edges weapon, which he will throw at you. The way to avoid this is by jumping over it, then avoiding it again as it comes back to him. That's the easiest attack he has, as he also charges at you, but that can be easily avoided with a double jump. The basis of winning the battle, although it takes a while sometimes, is to just wait for him to be done with his attack pattern, get in a few hits, then avoid his attacks until he stops again. Those of you that are not patient enough to try this can just avoid his deadly attacks as you attack him, but that's a tad more riskier. You'll get the Death Soul upon winning this battle. Enter the next room and break the candle to get the SKULA SOUL, which allows you to walk underwater. Whoo. Equip it, then go back to the first save room, then go left a few rooms until you get to the collapsing bridge. Fall down it, then sink into the room below. Go to the left and defeat some Needles, then jump out of the water. Go into the next room, then go down and avoid the spikes. At the bottom, go right and jump across the moving platforms. At the end, get the BURTGANG SWORD, then go back out of this room. Enter the room to the left, then go left and down, proceed through this room, then in the room to the left, and get the PITCH BLACK SUIT. Now, go back to the first room in this area, then go into the room to the right. Proceed down through this room until you get to the Bomber Armor. Beat him, then go right and you'll get a Warp Point, so use it to go back to the Castle Corridor. ===================================+++++++++================================== < C A S T L E C O R R I D O R > ===================================+++++++++================================== Leave the room, then go back to Hammer's Store and buy some new items he is selling. I don't know HOW he got the weapons and why he wasn't selling them before, but hey, it's a video game. It's best not to think about things like that. Go back inside, then go to the save room. Enter the lower left room after saving and recovering, and you'll be in the Underwater Reservoir. ===================================+++++++++================================== < U N D E R W A T E R R E S E R V O I R > ===================================+++++++++================================== Go down, then right and you will be in a room. Go all the way right and you will see a platform. Double jump up to that ledge using Undine and enter the room. Get the ELFIN ROBE at the end of the room, leave, and move right and use the Skula Soul to proceed to the room to the south. Go right, then down, and when you get to the bottom, go left and take RAHAB'S SWORD at the end. Leave this room and go all the way to the right. Go up the upper-right corner, and enter the room to the right for a Save Room. After saving and recovering, go to the bottom room and slide through the passage to get the MANA PRISM. Leave this room, and head to the room to the right. Head right, and in the next room, go into the upper-right hand corner area. Go right, clearing through some increasingly good enemies, and enter the save room at the end. Go back left a few screens and go into the large room. Go all the way down, then right into the next room. Move along the path and you will be in another big room. You will see a moving platform. Jump on it and move to the right, then drop onto the platform below of you and kill the enemies. Take the next moving platform to the area at top. Go left, double jump, and use the Flying Armor to float across the large platform. Enter the warp zone and leave. Head to the bottom area again. I'm wasting your time, aren't I? Nah, you need to come back here later, so finding the warp zone now will save you some trouble. Go into the room to the right, and collect the ARMOR OF WATER, then leave this room and go left into the next room. Enter the room at the end of this path and drop the bottom area. At the bottom, face the left wall and attack it. It will soon crumble. SECRET AREAS RULE! Grab the PUDDING and leave. Go all the way back up and head left this time, and you will watch a story. Continue along your path, then move right once you get to the next room. Grab the HIGH MIND UP, leave, and head up then right. At the end of this path is the entrance to the Underground Cemetery. ===================================+++++++++================================== < U N D E R G R O U N D C E M E T E R Y > ===================================+++++++++================================== Head right to the next room, and defeat the Biphron. New enemies abound here so pick up some souls if you want. You might also want to level up, as the boss is coming up soon. Go right and up the ledge, enter the upper left room, then go left and grab the 2000 dollars at the end. Now, go all the way right and save and recover. Go down and right and you will be at the save room. Legion is a pretty tough boss if you don't know what to do. First things first, he has this shield around him that is full of mummies. The more you hit him, the more mummies will start walking around the room trying to kill you, but they are more of a nuisance than any sort of threat. Basically, the more times you hit him, the more zombies walk around, but the weaker his shield gets, and when you take care of the shield, he comes a lot easier. Legion's attack pattern is fairly simple. He just follows you around the room at first, so just attack him as you can and avoid his pattern. Once you get rid of the shield, this part of the battle becomes easier. Just move across the room, then back across to the other side, and repeat the pattern, attacking him when you can, and soon you will have this form defeated. Yes, this form, because soon he'll turn into this millipede-like creature who curls up and bounces at you. He also shoots out energy beams at you, so repeating the pattern you were doing before comes harder. You might want to use a Soul or two to defeat him in this battle, as attacking him normally becomes harder and harder here. Once you defeat him, you get the soul and recovery orb. Cool. The Legion Soul is not a bad soul, check the Souls List for what it does. Go right two rooms, and then go right at the path again. Go right one more room, and you will get the GALAMOTH ABILITY, which lets you go through that room to the left of Persephone, which was blocked off earlier. Cool. Go back to the split in the road, and head up the platforms. Go right and get the GOLD RING, then go left and pick up the HIGH POTION. Drop down the platforms and go left, then go left until you are back in the Underwater Reservoir. ===================================+++++++++================================== < U N D E R W A T E R R E S E R V O I R > ===================================+++++++++================================== Go up this path, and at the top, go left until you are at The Arena. Which will be coming in next update. =D ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ < 5.0 G U I D E S > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ < 5.1 Shopping > ========================================= | Name | Price | ========================================= | Castle Map 1 | 100 | ----------------------------------------- | Castle Map 2 | 100 | ----------------------------------------- | Potion | 200 | ----------------------------------------- | Mind Up | 150 | ----------------------------------------- | Anti-Venom | 100 | ----------------------------------------- | Uncurse Potion | 100 | ----------------------------------------- | Baselard | 600 | ----------------------------------------- | Combat Knife | 1,000 | ----------------------------------------- | Rapier | 1,000 | ----------------------------------------- | Hammer | 1,200 | ----------------------------------------- | Broadsword | 1,400 | ----------------------------------------- | Spear | 1,500 | ----------------------------------------- | Gladius | 1,800 | ----------------------------------------- | Scimitar | 1,900 | ----------------------------------------- | Katana | 2,200 | ----------------------------------------- | Leather Plate | 800 | ----------------------------------------- | War Fatigues | 1,600 | ----------------------------------------- | Copper Plate | 1,800 | ----------------------------------------- ========================================= | Name | Price | ========================================= | High Potion | 1,000 | ----------------------------------------- | High Mind Up | 800 | ----------------------------------------- | Cutall | 1,700 | ----------------------------------------- | Warhammer | 2,000 | ----------------------------------------- | Estoc | 2,000 | ----------------------------------------- | Trident | 2,100 | ----------------------------------------- | Lance | 3,000 | ----------------------------------------- | Claymore | 3,500 | ----------------------------------------- | Partizan | 3,800 | ----------------------------------------- | Gram | 4,000 | ----------------------------------------- | Ascalon | 12,000 | ----------------------------------------- | Soldier Uniform | 2,800 | ----------------------------------------- | Iron Plate | 2,800 | ----------------------------------------- | Army Jacket | 2,800 | ----------------------------------------- | Steel Plate | 4,200 | ----------------------------------------- | Armor of Water | 5,200 | ----------------------------------------- | Silver Plate | 8,000 | ----------------------------------------- | Gold Plate | 14,000 | ----------------------------------------- | Crimson Cloak | 600 | ----------------------------------------- | Soul Eater Ring | 300,000 | ----------------------------------------- < 5.2 Souls > ============================================================================== | GUIDE FOR COLLECTING SOULS | ============================================================================== I'll have a guide for gaining Souls soon. That's what I did, anyways. However, his attacks really | | hurt and he can kill you if you are not careful. He moves back and forth, | | slowly, and if you touch it you'll get hit with some good damage. When its | | arm goes up, it's about to come down, and if he hits you, you will get hurt| | big time. When a yellowish sign goes above the skull, jump to avoid the | | fireball he shoots. Just keep slashing his head and avoiding his attacks. | | Not bad for a first boss, eh? | ============================================================================== | HP: 240 | EXP: 110 | WEAK: Holy | ============================================================================== ============================================================================== | MANTICORE | ============================================================================== | The boss here is the Manticore, and he's a little tougher than the Creeking| | Skull, but the bosses don't get truly tough yet. He's a pain in the ass | | though, because he moves back and forth and has this fireball attack which | | hurts. You can't stand too close to him, and there are spikes on the | | platforms which can hurt you and impede your progress, so it's not fun. | | Your best bet is to stay back and just use Souls on him, or you can just | | attack, move, rinse and repeat. He has two attacks, a stinger attack where | | he will move back and his tail will wiggle, followed by his tail moving at | | you, and the fireball attack where his mouth glows. He's not too bad once | | you get the hang of it. | ============================================================================== | HP: 440 | EXP: 250 | WEAK: Curse, Rock | ============================================================================== ============================================================================== | GREAT ARMOR | ============================================================================== | Before entering this battle, have the Whip Sword equipped, I didn't think | | this guy was all that bad, despite his high resistance to physical attacks | | (he'll block about half your whip attacks). I just stood there and kept | | hitting him, ducking his sword, until he died. Just duck below him and keep| | whipping him. When he's about to hit you with the sword, just dash | | backwards. Also, he moves backwards and frontwards a lot, and just touching| | him damages you, so beware of that. Also, he has a stabbing attack, but | | that's easy enough to avoid. | ============================================================================== | HP: 650 | EXP: 300 | WEAK: Lightning | ============================================================================== ============================================================================== | BIG GOLEM | ============================================================================== | This guy was a pain in the ass to me in my emulator because he moved way | | too fast. Once I got the game on GBA I was able to beat him with ease. He | | moves back and forth and swings his arms, but just duck like you did | | against the Great Armor to avoid this attack. The boss will also stop and | | duck to spit out rocks, and he also has these punching attacks, but these | | could also be avoided. Attack his legs and watch out for his arm for an | | easy win. Remember, having the Whip Sword equipped helps big time. | ============================================================================== | HP: 1,200 | EXP: 1,000 | WEAK: Nothing | ============================================================================== ============================================================================== | HEADHUNTER | ============================================================================== | This boss has three forms, and none of them are all that bad, although you | | may find yourself having a little bit of trouble with the third one. First | | things first. Her first form is the form of a maid, which isn't bad at all.| | She just moves around and does weak attacks, so keep slashing her and | | she'll turn into a witch. She'll fly up and down across the room, casting | | weak magic spells on you, so avoid those and keep slashing her until she | | dies. Her reptilian final form will move at you and attack with her tongue,| | but avoiding that is easy. Like I said, this battle isn't that bad at all. | ============================================================================== | HP: 700 | EXP: 3,000 | WEAK: Weapons | ============================================================================== ============================================================================== | DEATH | ============================================================================== | Death. You can check them all at http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/9471.html < 7.2 Next Update > HOW DID I DO LAST TIME: Haha, I forgot about this guide, for one. So, I failed miserably. < 7.3 Future Updates > Well, now that the guide looks better, I hope to finish it within the next week, before FFTA controls me. < 7.4 Revision History > v0.6 - 9/16/03 - 84.5K - Ouch, I forgot all about this guide. I'm so sorry. Yes, I know it looks like crap compared to my newer guides, but eh, it's going to keep this format because it's simple, yet doesn't look too bad. I redid some format, however, and changed the line breaks to 79 characters manually, so that was a pain. I added in some enemies, and will do some real work again soon. This guide WILL be finished, I assure you. v0.5 - 5/19/03 - 84.7K - Two updates in two days, just like good times. I really dislike doing this guide now and the game is boring me, I'd much rather play and work on FF7 and Legaia DS, but I will chug through this guide as much as I can. I worked on the lists some more, started the enemies list by numbers, and updated the walkthrough through getting to the Arena. I hope to have this guide done by Wednesday still, but it will be done this week for sure. v0.4 - 5/18/03 - 72.1K - Shit, I forgot all about this guide. I'm so sorry, guys. Well, he wasn't updating lately anyways, and that had something to do with it. No reason to do any work while he was away. He's back now, though, and I remembered about this guide. Updated walkthrough through Underwater Reservoir and enemies list updated slightly. Sorry for the short update but I will have it done by Wednesday, I promise, then it's on to Duel Saga and FF7. :) v0.3 - 05/09/03 - 67.6K - Hopefully THIS version will be posted. Geez, it's almost done now. :) I reformatted the boss guide, started the souls list, updated all 4 lists (especially the enemies list, whoosh), and updated the walkthrough through the Underwater Resevoir, where I am up to in the game. I also added some more FAQ's thanks to the great GameFAQs message board. Oh, and I finally added a credits list. This guide has increased in quality and quantity big time today and I couldn't be more proud of myself. v0.2 - 5/08/03 - 36.9K - Hopefully this version will be posted. :) Walkthrough updated through the Inner Quarters, shopping guide started, and the boss guide was reformatted slightly. v0.1 - 5/07/03 - 19.8K - Guide started, all sections started, walkthrough updated through the Chapel. < 7.5 Contact Information > You can contact me by emailing me at mcfaddenvg@#yahoo.com One last note: Only email me about the game at mcfaddenvg@yahoo.com, all emails about Aria of Sorrow sent to my other e-mail addresses will be deleted and/or ignored.
