The Year of the RPG. That is what 2010 has been dubbed. Right now the lineup of RPG for the year is amazing, and the year hasn't even started yet. Surely we will have more to come, but for now here's a brief look at the RPGs of 2010.

3D Dot Game Heroes

3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3) - Atlus USA

Official Site

Atlus is bringing this retro throwback to North America for only $39.99. Some call it a Zelda clone, but with giant swords and voxels, who cares?

Alpha Protocol

Alpha Protocol (Xbox 360/PS3/PC) - Sega

Official Site

Delayed from 2009 at the last minute, here's hoping that Obsidian's espionage RPG is worth the wait. RPGs and spies go together like ice cream and chocolate.

Arc Rise Fantasia

Arc Rise Fantasia (Wii) - Ignition Entertainment

Official Site

This imageepoch turn-based RPG has swapped hands in the publishing arena, but will finally see North America in Summer 2010. Bring on the dragons, L'Arc and crew are ready.

ArcaniA: A Gothic Tale

ArcaniA: A Gothic Tale (Xbox 360/PS3/PC) - DreamCatcher Interactive

Official Site

Not developed by the studio responsible for the other Gothic series games, this should come as welcome news for those who hated Gothic 3. This will also be on consoles (PS3 & Xbox 360).

Atelier Rorona

Atelier Rorona (PS3) - NIS America

Official Site (Japanese)

Beautiful cel-shaded 1080p action comes to the PS3 along with turn-based combat. As is a staple with the series, Rorona must not only fight, but become a master of alchemy as well.

Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow

Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow (DS) - D3 Publisher

Official Site (Japanese)

The third Blue Dragon game, and second to hit the DS. Trying to hit all RPG sub-genres, this one will be an action RPG with a customizable hero. The true question is: Will Nene return again?

Dawn of Heroes

Dawn of Heroes (DS) - Majesco

Official Site

Another last minute delay, this tactical RPG seeks to offer a single and multi-player experience. How will this Canadian (Wicked Studios) developed DS title succeed?

Divinity II: Ego Draconis

Divinity II: Ego Draconis (Xbox 360/PC) - cdv

Official Site

As one of the first RPGs of the year, Divinity II tries to get a jump on the rest of the market. Being early isn't all it has going for it, as players can change into a dragon, too. How cool is that?

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie (DS) - Square Enix

Official Site

Will this one actually make it in 2010? Square Enix has confirmed it for North America, so with it hitting Japan in January, it could be on track for a late year release.

Edge of Twilight

Edge of Twilight (Xbox 360/PS3/PC) - Southpeak Games

Official Site

Things aren't looking great here. This title might not even see the light of day at all now. Rumors have this one as being canceled or at least trapped in development purgatory for a while.

Fable III

Fable III (Xbox 360) - Microsoft

Official Site

Molyneux promises big. He's stated that not only will Fable 3 use Microsoft's new Natal technology, but the game will also be released in 2010. Let's all hold our breath and see.

Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas (Xbox 360/PS3/PC) - Bethesda

Official Fallout Forums

Nothing has been seen of Obsidian's new take on Fallout. What's interesting is that the company is teaming up to have Bethesda publish it. Only time will tell us what to expect.
