Smells like onions...

Final Fantasy III is probably one of the most anticipated games for the DS. Being a full remake of the original, it boasts many new and improved features. I was really excited to get the chance to play it. First of all, I must say that this is among the best polygonal DS games I've seen. It's gorgeous, from the high quality menus to the characters and environments. Animation is fluid and texture quality is high. Having different animations for each character action was a nice touch. For instance, if you attack, the character brings out a sword and stands ready.

If you use magic, the character retreats to the back row and starts channeling the energy by praying. Though I've not played the original Final Fantasy III, the battle system is purely turn-based. No ATB was available from what little I could see. You set up all of your characters' actions before they carry them out. Battles were pretty easy, but that could just be the demo. As well, there was very little magic available, and as per the story line I'm told, only the Freelancer class was usable.

The only real bad thing was the loading time. That could be explained, however, by the fact that the data was streaming to the DS via some kind of cable rather than an actual cart. Likely this will be better in the final version.
