Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is an undeniably cute and fun little game. There is an incredible charm to it that made it immediately attractive to load up and play. I just couldn't resist the appeal of a slime hero wandering through a colorful world rescuing his various slime buddies.

Rocket Slime had two modes of gameplay; adventure mode and tank mode. Pretty much everyone else from our group was playing tank mode, so I decided to give adventure mode a try. The basic style of play seemed highly reminiscent of a Zelda game, only...slimey. Rocket can't use swords, shields, bows, or boomerangs, but instead can stretch, bounce, slingshot himself, and carry objects. By stretching out and letting go, he'll rocket forward, knocking objects in the air which he can then catch and throw. Hitting treasure chests in this manner will open them; some contain items, others contain the imprisoned slimes that Rocket is rescuing.

Ah! More giant kitties!

Rocket can also make use of his environment. There were, for instance, rock-bombs around the area. I could hit the rock-bombs into the air, carry them someplace, and then throw them to create an explosion. Hitting enemies into the air and then throwing them, killed them (throwing items at them worked, too). It was quite a fun combat system, and the exploration elements were great. Also, as I rescued slimes and sent them back to town, they would send Rocket letters which usually seemed to contain items as thanks for the rescue. The game's writing was lighthearted and very funny.

I had a blast playing this adorable game, and I'm definitely looking forward to the full version of the game. Judging just by the demo area, it seems like it'll be quite a fun task to hunt down all the captured slimes and set them free, returning Boingburg to its old self again.
