Castlevania: Curse of Darkness

Leaving Bandai I went to make my way over to the Nintendo hall and check out pokemon as many have stabbed me to do. Unfortunately, this was not to be as a wall of flesh both blocked my way and pushed me towards the Sony booth. This would be a total loss except for the whole PS2 Castlevania that I found myself standing in front of.

Taking hold I started stabbing and slashing around with the giant axe I was equipped with, experimenting with the system. Like everyone and their cousins these days, Castlevania is an action-RPG where you play a mighty warrior wielding a gigantic axe and with a demonic bird as his ally. Or so it seemed, checking the stat screen he actually had a number of demonic partners he could switch between on a menu press, giving them commands and having them help out with a variety of powers and abilities, as well as weapons that he could equip for different attack styles depending on whether he was wieldin a sword or a spear or an axe. I hope truly that this sort of thing foreshadows the type of variety we saw in Symphony of the Night, because on first glance it really felt like it.

The art was reminisicent of Lament of Innocence though slightly improved. I'd go into more detail on the combat but I quickly got stuck trying to glide over a pit with one of the summons to progress. Overall though, it doesn't play that poorly for being half done with development.
