Game of the Year Results

Editors' Choice

Nintendo's interactive machine did not offer RPGamers a ton this year, but the pair of games that it did bring us were highly impressive. Hopefully, 2008 will have both quality and quantity.

Best Wii 2007
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Though 2007 was a good year for the Wii, there weren't many RPGs for Nintendo's little white box. Fortunately, one of the best to come out this year was a Wii game. Though it's not for everyone, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is a great example of a tactical RPG. Almost every single part of Fire Emblem is simple, yet all these pieces combine to produce one of the most complex games on the market. Add in the fact that allies that fall in battle are removed from the game from that point on, and the game becomes an intricate game of tactics where every decision can be the difference between life and death for your team.

On top of that, you have an engaging plot that is actually better the second time around, some jaw-droppingly gorgeous cut scenes, and some great music, and you've got a game that can keep gamers coming back again and again. Any fan of the series that can handle the game's high level of difficulty should definitely give it a shot.

Second Place - Super Paper Mario

The Paper Mario series has, since its conception on the Nintendo 64, been extremely well-received. Super Paper Mario manages to blend two of Mario's favorite pasttimes, jumping on ledges and being extremely thin, into an RPG experience that is unlike anything else on the market. While it doesn't make exceptional use of the Wii's widely lauded motion-sensitive controls, its simplicity and charm make it one of, if not the best RPG on Nintendo's new system to date.

Not So Honorable Mention - Pokémon Battle Revolution

Not having many Wii RPGs to pick from, Pokémon Battle Revolution would have scored third place in the Best Wii RPG category. However, the game did not receive a positive reaction from our staff, so no bronze for this title. Hopefully, next year we will have some more to pick from, so that this doesn't happen again. Pikachu, we're ashamed of you.
