Nothing much to say here. I'm still in shock from the World Cup. Great game (even though I was rooting for France)...but sheesh. Zidane...what the hell were you thinking? Such a great career, and you botch it at the end! For those of you who don't know, here's what happened:

While I laughed my ass off (the guy clearly said something to Zidane to anger him), that's just one time you need to show restraint.

I guess that's good to know. ^^;;

Hello Ouro,

I was on my PSP browser last night and tried to send a short email from it. Unfortunately, due to the small internal memory, after spending an exhausting amount of time typing the letter on those fiddly keys, i realised that there wasn't enough memory for it to load the 'SEND' button. What a waste of effort...just thought you should know. =)

I definitely agree that the PSP was a waste of money on the RPG front, with only Breath of Fire III out here in the UK. Some of the other games, like Daxter and the original genius that is the sublime LocoRoco, are fun to play, but where the hell are the RPGs? Only Blade Dancer has been confirmed for Europe.... It makes me want to cry.

On the subject of hybrid games, I reckon a RPG-stealth game would work...as well as an anvil flies. Hmmmph, my brain non function after late nights.

My brain is composed of approximately 4lbs of nerve bundles surrounding my cortex.

Well I haven't tested out the Wi-Fi with my PSP yet. I have no need for the internet browser on it just yet, as I have a total of 3 computers up here to keep me entertained. That's good to know, though...at least I know I'll have to keep an eye on system memory...sigh.

It wasn't really a waste of money on my part...hehehe. Go birthdays. But, yes, so far the PSP has failed to appease my RPG desires, merely taunting me with the prospect of playing Valkyrie Profile in the coming weeks. I can see it, laughing at me...provoking me with its gaze, promising hours of gameplay and the chance to do something other than roll up people and buildings in a giant ball...hmph. Tease.

RPG-Stealth? Well...I don't think that would work very well...Isn't the purpose of an RPG to destroy things? Stealth doesn't really fit into that very well...I suppose if you wanted to get close to the idea, we can look at Tenchu. That was very stealthy, but not an RPG. Oh well. Go take a cold shower and some Motrin. ^^b

Epeek? Vat ess zat?

Hybird games seem to be pretty hit or miss to me. I think strategy games combine best with RPGs. I'd like to see a game with epic battles (a la Total War) with the character development, great story, and smaller skirmishes/duels one would expect from any decent RPG.

Vicissitude

Josh

We already have quite a few of those, at least if you take a look at the whole genre of TRPGs. Though, based on your description, you can go play the Suikoden games, which have a bit of all of that.

However, those games concentrate on the party, and lead up to the large, full-scale battles. I think it would be a neat idea to start out as the giant army and develop a select few of the characters, but provide the ability to enter smaller areas with a smaller party. Sorta like a Final Fantasy Tactics scenario (you basically have an army to work with, even though you can only gain 16 total at a time), but with more of an RPG style rather than TRPG.

So it was you that stole my Red Hot Chilli Pepers C.D's Ouro. Anywho with so many games to pass at the moment and so many boss's to fight my question's are; What two bad guys would be most evenly matched in a dual? What is the longest you've ever spent on a single boss fight? (Looks back at FF 9's final boss, and the intermitio my brother and I had). What Boss have you fought over and over just for the fun of it. (Looks at 90% of Zelda game boss's) And finally have you ever fought a boss with a party you would never in your stupidest dreams use in any boss battle ever. (Looks at my Suikoden 2 Rat boss battle with Tuta, No healing and no attacking runes on any of the party and won with a combined health total of 9).

Bainick says being a volunteer firefighter is or well and good, until you start training in the middle of winter!

Josh

Evenly matched...good lord. Uh...*taps fingers*...*fidgets*...

Grahf vs. Kefka. That'd be a fun one. I'm also going to have to wonder how Indalecio vs. Albedo would turn out. Could be interesting.

Longest I've ever spent was 2.5 hours on that damned Darksteel Dragon. I had nothing of use to use against him, so I just whittled away at him for hours. Finally took him down, though. The battle with Vexacion in Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter was also long for me, as I was trying to get as far as possible without transforming into a Dragon. I eventually gave in and used it after losing a few times. ;_;

I replayed several levels in Disgaea because they were a ton of fun. I also liked to see how fast I could do it! *eyes Midboss*

And yeah, in Final Fantasy III I fought a rat boss with all of my characters Mini-ed! Oh wait, that's part of the plot. D'oh.

Why do you always ask me such strange questions?!?!? Hehehe ^^!

I should just stop talking...

Dear sir mister Ouro,

What on earth is a honeynet?

Thanks ^^.

-Roku

Josh

Folks...this is what happens when you complain about writing papers on IRC. Some smart-aleck decides to write in a question like this. Sigh...do you see what I have to put up with?!?

Ok, Roku. You asked for it. A honeynet is a network filled with dummy computers, running no authorized processes, in order to analyze and log data from unauthorized data for later use. Because nothing on the net is authorized, we assume that anything that does run on it is either some form of scan, probe, or attack. By analyzing the data we gain from these attacks, we can better prepare the rest of the network for defense. There are some security risks, as you are essentially letting the enemy gain access to an 'isolated' part of the network, but frankly, nothing is assured anyway.

Shut your mouth!

Josh,

I'm just wondering, who's the black private dick that's a sex machine with all the chicks?

Thanks!

Presenting...

THE HOPEFULLY OUTSTANDING NEW GAME!

Or, THONG for short. For now, the prizes will be limited to Guest-Hosting opportunities, since this is essentially an experiment. I'm positive that it will turn out well, though! Now, for the setup:

This is the game board. If you ever talk to CactuarJoe, make sure to thank him for the wonderful job he did! Thanks Joe!

If you want to join: Please send me your top 3 choices for characters for your game piece. A list of them that can be used can be found here. Please only choose from the "PARTY" or "NPC" links. Also make sure that the character has a left/right-facing sprite, and a front/back facing sprite. Thanks!

  • Everyone begins the game on START.
  • For every letter you write in, I will roll a 3-sided die (I'll use RPGamer's resident Random Number Generator, DiceyBot). That will determine how many spaces you move.
  • You may only get credit for one letter, per day - max 3 per weekend. Timestamps will be checked, and only letters sent during Friday - Monday before my column will be counted towards that weekend. Letters sent at other times during the week will not count until Saturday.
  • Letters must be addressed to me, at either qna@rpgamer.com or ourobolus@rpgamer.com. Letters will get credit even if they are unanswered, or even if Matt answers them.
  • If you land on a Spell Tile, you MUST use the spell listed on the Tile. Spells and their effects are listed after the rules.
  • The Trivia Tile MUST be landed on before you may enter the FINISH Tile. Answering the trivia question correctly will automatically grant you entry into the FINISH Tile, and you will receive the prize.
  • If you reach the Trivia Tile, another reader who is participating in the game will ask you a question. However, the person who lands on the Tile decides WHICH reader asks the question, as well as WHICH RPG from which the question will be asked (e.g. "Wonderslime wants Bainick to ask him a question about Chrono Trigger").
  • If the person who provides the question has not played the game, they may use anything necessary to come up with a question. Failure to provide a question over 2 days of my column will result in the same effect as if the receiver answered the question right, and he/she will progress to the FINISH Tile.
  • The Prize for this initial board will be 5 Guest Hosting positions. Once those are completed, a new board will be created, probably with more prizes.
  • The effects will go as such. Movement->Spells Cast->Effects. Everyone will move at the same time, all spells will be cast at the same time, and all effects will happen at the same time. Attack spells will be cast at the beginning of the day after they were landed on. Spells are cast only if the character is on the space at the -end- of the day.

Spell effects are as follows:

  • Bolt 1: Player chooses another player to push back 1 tile.
  • Bolt 2: Player chooses another player to push back 2 tiles.
  • Stop: The next time Player sends in a letter, it will take 2 days for the roll to take place.
  • Haste: Player receives an extra roll which will make him/her advance 1-3 tiles.
  • Slow: Player receives an extra roll which will make him/her retreat 1-3 tiles.
  • Merton: Player chooses another player to push back 4 tiles, at the cost of Player moving back 2 tiles. Can only be used twice.
  • Roulette: I roll a 20-sided die. Any players standing on that numbered tile are pushed back 2 tiles.
C L O S I N G
IN CONCLUSION:

I'm tempted to make 1 more change to the THONG game, but I'll figure that out soon. Actually though, I've figured out what I want to do with the next board, and I think I found a way to guarantee that it doesn't get too out of hand. Until then, though...I can't wait to do the guest-host thing. Arros is on the verge of attaining it first...keep coming guys, you can do it!
