I've received a few responses based on the question I asked yesterday, and it looks like the vote is definitely to keep things like Gold and Experience hidden. Not only will showing them encourage "people-hunting," but the scoreboard is already cumbersome as it is, and extending it would make things even worse. So, it stays put.
Second thing: I've been asked if I can directly link the contest pages to the index page every day. I opt not to, because as a Q&A-based column, I'd like to keep it tied to it, somehow. (i.e. I hate to lose hits on my main work because of the extra work I'm doing.) I'm sure you understand.
Also, I've had a couple of people express frustration with not being able to get hits in because they're asleep when the column goes up. All I can say is "sorry"! This is very difficult for me, because with my schedule, there's really no other time that I can publish the column. Don't despair, though, because as monsters become bigger, meaner, and possessing of more HP, it may be true that the LAST people to go will get the real advantage. Don't lose hope!
Today's Tips:
- If you obtain items that you feel are just sucking up your item space, then you may take a turn to do some shopping. Unlimited shopping takes up one day's action, but you can buy or sell as much as you want. Items that are sold will give you half their value in Gold.
- There will be, on average, one day per week where a question is worth Experience and one worth Gold. Don't mess these ones up if you can help it!! They'll be key, especially for classes like Defender and White Mage, that aren't terribly powerful to start out.
- When you gain a level, you'll automatically spend the required experience. If you're a mage, this might mean that you won't have enough left over to cast spells for a bit (though you might have enough after all.) Beware!
