I believe the word in question was "puke". It's been a while since I've seen that episode, so there's a good chance I'm wrong...

Correct you are. "That's a funny word. Can I use that?" is from the sitcom "Seinfeld," although I do believe the name of the character who says it is spelled "Bania." That's nitpicking though.

And yes, "puke" was the word in question.

final fantasy (4) tactics

Hey Aegis,

I thought Id make a few comments about the fight vs all four Fiends of elements in the giant robot in FF4 as several people were complaining about its difficulty. First of all, ive never had a problem with this battle. By this point in the game its always been really easy for me. This might be because I always get Bahumut on the moon on the trip to get Fusoya. Not only do you get this awsome summons for use in the robot, you also get the uber equipment from the cave. The trick of course is getting by the Behemoths in the cave. What I do is fight one at a time. I have Fu so Ya cast meteo and try to keep him alive till it goes off. Meanwhile assulting the behemoth with as many physical attacks as possible. Once you beat each of those set encounters they wont come back, so you can exit the cave and rest and save for the next fight. Once you get to Bahamut all you have to do is keep shield up on several people (both Rosa and Fu So Ya can cast it).

Bahamut will work wonders on all four elements, and is specially good on the cpu core. In fact I always have way more trouble with the cpu core than with those elements.

Although I bought it a couple years ago, I've never actually finished FF4. I borrowed it back when the SNES was still alive but had to return it before I finished. I did make it all the way up to the end, I just wasn't powerful enough to beat Zeromus.

Back to the point at hand, though, I don't remember having a lick of trouble in that spot, and I didn't have Bahamut either. But for those who are in a jam there, this sounds like some good advice.

I got a single question for you, what's Hoshigami like? And is it worth buying? One would think it's a lot like FF Tactics.

I actually didn't get a chance to play this one at E3, and since I'm not horribly huge on tactical RPGs, I haven't been following it very closely. However, from what I hear, it's good, and it is a lot like FFT. So, if you like FFT or tactical RPGs in general, it should be a solid purchase.

Hey Aegis!

You might remember me from a column you did back on August 7th. If not, worry not, i just remembered it myself. You asked people to go on about their lives, and I responded by describing my life as an RPG. I figured i'd let ya know how it goes up here in snowy Michigan Tech, mostly because I have a slight break before doing a crapload of work.

Tech is a pretty good school, overall. The CS department has some great teachers, wonderful labs, and just an overall nice atmosphere. As was expected, classes are MUCH harder than HS, but I'm at least learning something valuable, which I can't really say for high school.

I think adjusting to college is by far the biggest challenge. This is an isolated area, and there isn't very many places to go within walking distance to have a good time. Still, we have an anime club called HARO (Houghton Anime Review Organization), with a huge tape collection, and showings on a big screen every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Sweet stuff, for sure. Also, I get together with the student MA of my hall to learn japanese. Overall, been having a great educational experience.

Still, it's hard to adjust, mostly because I haven't been quite as much of a social animal as I was at home. I've kinda withdrawn, which makes the time I have not working kinda dull. But hey, things are starting to change, and despite my subtle doubts, I think I might just stick around (I was thinking about transferring back downstate for awhile).

Well, that's life in a nutshell here. Now, i'd better get going. I have 2 huge papers, a CS lab quiz, and a few books to read in the next 5 days, so i'd better get started...

(by the way, I just want to say that I hate arrays. That is all.)

Yeah, I remember ya. I'm glad to hear that you're doing well in college. It's really not as bad--nor as good, mind you--as extremists sometimes make it out to be. Good luck on finishing up your semester. And as far as arrays go, you'll learn to love them, I guarantee.

Hey Aegis.

It seems like people have been able to play the FFX demo for a bit now. I just have to say a quick thing about the music.

First off, the whole soundtrack is not heavy metal like. I own the soundtrack (haven't played the demo though) and only a few songs are even like that. The music is definitely different from before though, because there's three composers, not just one.

What about the character designs? I myself like them but I didn't read any comments in any of Chesh's letters. Did I miss something or was there just nothing to say?

Though I've not actually played through the FFX demo, I've watched friends play through the first part of it, and I'm pretty impressed. The voice acting is decent, the music has an interesting feel to it, and the gameplay seems solid. And the graphics are gorgeous, of course.

As far as the character designs go, I've honestly not seen a lot of the characters, nor have I paid much attention to those I have seen, barring Tidus and Auron, the characters featured in the section of the demo I watched. I liked those two, though, so I'm hopeful.
