LETTERS WITH AEGIS
Monday, October 1, 2001 "just feel the pace. come on now race"

MOUNTAINOUS DO:

I decided that I'd be better off at 2 a.m. last night to go to sleep and do the column in the early morning rather than try to write in my yawning stupor. And then I slept in, 'til noon. And now I'm between classes. Lesson learned? Don't sleep.

This is a bit of a cop-out, but not a total one. I am gonna print a few letters, but I'm saying "few" in the literal sense of the word. I've got 50 minutes until physics, so here's to me making good use of the time.

    Guess the Quote Contest
Try to guess (be specific) the quote towards the top of the page. If you're the first one to email me with the correct answer, I'll mention you in my next column.

    quote
"another night another dream but always you, it's like a vision of love that seems to be true"

As much as it pains me to say it, that quote is from the ever-present Real McCoy.

    God, strike me down now.

    ~Epochkun

    Aegis:
There's no shame in knowing, or liking, Real McCoy. Or Ace of Base for that matter. At least, there shouldn't be.

moral of the story? don't go to louisiana
    Oy, Hello, Not-so-Evil-Sheild-Person-of-DOOM.

Hmm, well, I DID make a 20 dollar bet that I could eat a dead wasp to get to buy a copy of FFT. ( Grr... It got stolen from me when I was in the 4th part...) Yes, I AM a fanatic of RPGs, so... Don't ask.

Oh, and do you know the 2 bad parts about being an RPGer who lives in Louisiana? The fact that you have to buy most RPGs online is one part, and the other is bugs. Yes, bugs. They crawl into your games/video game systems a LOT. I've had to pull 2 roaches and a spider out of my SEGA Genesis, and MANY more from my old (Now dead.) NES. Oy...

Xuelian, Assassins Redoubt's last transmission.. "Hey Goog, if you're reading this, you should get the reference!"

    Aegis:
Eating a dead bug for 20 bucks? Heaven knows I wouldn't right now, as I'm more or less swimming in money, but back in the day when money was scarce and RPGs were scarcer? I'd still say probably not.

Dead bugs in systems aren't good either. I'd suggest moving to a different state.

    danger, will robinson. danger.
    Hey Aegis,

Yesterday, when i logged on RPGamer, I was suprised by a Nexus: TK update. I feel it is my duty to warn you and the whole Roleplaying community about this Online RPG. Sure it looks all cute, but it's really evil. I played that game for over 2 years. First of all, it cost me more or less $200 per year to play (with 4 characters), which is pretty costly for a game like that. The company that makes Nexus, Nexon, don't give any valuable consumer support. They state that they can delete your characters anytime for no reason and there's nothing you can do about, no refund, no nothing. I know alot of people who were banned for things they didn't do. You can't let a friend play, you can't let your sister or brother play one of your 4 character. If they -think- someone else is playing, for example, you live in New York and your friend lives in San Francisco. If you play a bit then your friend plays, they know you can't travel from NYC to SF in 2 minutes so they ban you. The game is filled with thieves, spam, idiots, corruption. Sure, some people are nice, but most aren't. Those screenshots that were just updated are so OLD, I was not even playing when it happened. There aren't any Annual Bals, that was the only Live-chess game and the War has been over for 2 years. This is a Warning to everyone. Don't play Nexus. You get addicted and pay huge ammounts of money to a crappy company for a game that's almost as enjoyable as watching hair grow, actully, watching hair grow is more intertaining than Nexus. Beleive me. I was banned not long ago for making characters with unacceptable names. I gave them money for over 2 years, was always a kind player, helping others, but they don't care how you play or who you are, they ban you at the first chance they get.

    Play outside!
    Rudy.

P.S.: You should come pick up your socks, they're really starting to smell.

    Aegis:
See, this is why people shouldn't play PC games. Oh, and those aren't my socks.

    workin' at the car wash
You know, it's really funny that you should pick that topic today. I just spent all day cleaning the inside and outside of three cars by hand, without a hose or anything, just to get 75 dollars for my PS2 fund. Yeah, just a bucket of soapy water and a sponge. And a 15 year old dust buster. O_o

    - Sage

    Aegis:
You didn't mention how long "all day" really was, but 75 bucks sounds like pretty good imbursement for your efforts. Hopefully that 75 is at least close to finishing up your PS2 fund and not just starting it.

    hello, THIEF
Alright. What's the oddest / weirdest / coolest way I've ever found to score the latest and greatest game or hardware? Well.. I stole Shenmue from a friend the day before I moved from Texas to North Carolina (where I live now) and I scored Final Fantasy Tactics by begging the people at Blockbuster for me to buy their copy. Literally. And it worked. Ha! The saps.

Now, for my OWN questions (Yes, it's YOUR turn to do the work! Bwa ha!)

    1) Cloud Vs. Zidane - The Crazy Man versus the Tailed-Alien Boy? Who'd win?
    2) Saiyuki.. Male or Female Main Character?
    3) Ever played Tactics? Whose your favorite character? (Mustadio all the way, baby!)
    4) Uh.. you won't mysteriously turn into a female on me like Goog, will you?
    5) Do you like rice?
    6) Got GBA?
    7) Golden Sun or Breath of Fire? HELP ME HERE!!

    Thanx for you time,
    1337 h4x0rz

    Aegis:
Man, borrowing games without returning them isn't cool. Especially if it's a good game, like Shenmue. Shame on you.

    As for your questions,
  • 1)  Cloud, hands down. Why? Three words: Big-ass sword.
  • 2)  I've not played it and probably won't play it, but I'll go ahead and say male.
  • 3)  I own the rerelease of FFT and I've started playing, but I'm only a few missions in, so I don't know of many characters yet.
  • 4)  No, I'm 100% male and plan to stay that way.
  • 5)  Rice is good.
  • 6)  Yes, I've had my GBA since March. I imported.
  • 7)  Golden Sun. It looks absolutely gorgeous, and the gameplay will probably be a bit fresher than that of BoF, which is what, like seven-or-so years old?

  •
at least it's not "attack of the clones"
Why the hell did they decide to name it Grandia Xtreme instead of simply Grandia III? It sounds more like a stupid spinoff.

    ~Xeros89

    Aegis:
Perhaps it is gonna be a spin-off rather than what GameArts would consider a true sequel. Or perhaps they just like the letter "X" way too much and don't wanna wait til game 10 to use it.

    End of the Road:

And the column surprisingly enough is a little longer than I anticipated it to be. And I actually printed nearly all of the letters I received that hit upon the day's topic. Send mail to Google for tomorrow, and I'll see you all again next week.

Andrew P. Bilyk can't wait til November 18.
